Wow that looks beautiful , great job. I'm going to make it for my granddaughter birthday she's turning 9 on August 12 she's going to love it❤ thank you for your great recipe 🥰
You made an amazing looking cake with beginner techniques and ingredients. I’m so impressed. Unfortunately, my kids don’t like the decorator sugar on the icing.
Thanks for your kind words! I agree with your kids.....I don't really like decorating sugar on my icing either. I only use the decorating sugar for Barbie's top, which I just wiped off when we were done.
Sorry, I wish I had a concrete answer for you, but I have not used colored icing on the doll before. It might stain, but I would think it likely depends on how rich the color is and how long it is left on the doll. Do you have an old doll you could test it on? Or do you have a doll that it doesn't matter if it gets stained? Another option is using a doll that already has a hard top or using a top or dress. To do Elsa, I left her dress on and wrapped the bottom in clear cling wrap. There is a picture of it on my website. mamaspricelessparties.com/about-mama/ Hope that helps. Please let us know how it all turns out.
Great video! Thanks for all the tips. How would you recommend moving the cake? I've been asked to make a Barbie cake for a friend's daughter, so I'll make the cake at my house and then take it to her party. Any tips for making sure it gets there in one piece?
I have transferred cakes before, but not my Barbie cakes. If I had to transfer the Barbie cake, I would place it inside a tall cake box. I took a quick look on Amazon and found a cake box that is 12x12x14 that should work amzn.to/4eD1E5m (there are 3 boxes in this pack....sorry I couldn't find a single) NOTE: I have not used this specific cake box before, but it has good reviews. You will want to make sure the cake fits inside the box. First, the cake board should be snug in the box so it does not move around. The box I suggested above would be for a 12" cake board. Second, measure the height of the Barbie you are using (most Barbies are around 11.5" tall) and add the height of the cake board to find the minimum height required for your cake box. If using a cake box with a handle, do NOT carry the cake using the handle. Please carry it holding the bottom of the box. I don't trust handles when carrying cakes! You may even want to consider adding some tape to the sides of the cake box. Finally, the cake box should be snug in the car so it cannot move around. Avoid the trunk, if possible. Do not put the cake into a hot vehicle. Consider your driving route and try to avoid any speed bumps. Hope that helps and that all goes well!
Thanks! The top is Wilton Pink Decorating Sugar amzn.to/3Qkw2Ge (Amazon) and I matched the frosting using Wilton Icing Color Rose: amzn.to/3QJN2qY (Amazon).
Mine did not taste bitter at all. I use the Wilton icing colors because they are a concentrated gel and a little goes a long way. You want to make sure you do not use more icing color than needed. I always add a bit of icing color at a time when coloring my frosting. The color should be a touch lighter than the pink icing sugar as it will darken over time. After coloring the frosting, put it in the fridge to chill, and when you take it out after 30 minutes, the color will have deepen. Hope that helps.
I made the bling with jewelry supplies. I used small shiny beads (Japanese Glass Seed Beads - Crystal Silver Lined from Michaels) and BeadSmith Opelon Stretch Jewelry Fiber White, .7mm from Amazon: amzn.to/3SuI7Ll
For the Barbie Cake, the only cake board I have ever used is a decorative one for the bottom. I have made this cake several times and have never used cake boards in between the layers. That being said, I always use Betty Crocker Super Moist French Cake Mix, which is a very light airy cake. If you have a dense heavy cake, you may need cake boards between the layers. Hope that helps.

Have you ever used colored icing on the doll itself, and if so did it stain the plastic of doll?

So beautiful ❤. What brand is the hot pink color?

How tall is the Barbie and how tall is the cake?
I used a Barbie doll that is 11.5" tall. As for the cake, it went up to Barbie's waist. So, it was approximately 7" tall.
No cake board?
