I enjoyed the series the first time I watched it cuz the couple was cute but the constant harping on how pretty she was, the mean girls everywhere, the weird cliques and high school-like childish culture around their games made me had to turn my brain off.
I had to add too, the obvious comparisons of WeiWei and her friend are soooo painful. They do a disservice to both beautiful women constantly pitted against each other for both fitting differently into society's beauty standards. This could've been an interesting topic, but bombarded with the rest of the nonsensical plot that came straight out of a webcomic or Disney channel original movie made it impossible for me to take it seriously.
It's not a bad series, but it's just so painful how they failed in so many aspects which make it hard to rewatch.
Well it's based on a book about a simple love story. But yeah I always get miffed about how the girl who plays the leads bestie is portrayed in productions. She's always less beautiful, less talented, less gifted. At least with the ones I've seen her in
@@TVwriter23 the book is waaaay less dramatic and pretty short and simple, it's the authors style that she doesn't write much of the whole marysue overused tropes and sticks to simple heartwarming stories. The "villains" were more realistic and human than the drama depicted, all of her work that's been made into TV dramas got changed to fit the Chinese audience need for drama until she started having a say in the scripts too. Which is why her most recent televised work is so different. None of the usual tropes.

I enjoyed both the movie and this series. I wish the series had not gone for 2 dimensional female arcs though. The movie was more real for the female characters. This went to the typical girls chasing eachother around squealing or mean girls. Friend using another friend for her revenge. The transition from movie to series was done really well & the plot twists kept you interested and rooting for the good guys. I've found and followed some great actors in their other works.
Loved the reason she was impressed with Nai in the movie. Alk the girls are talking about how hot he is. She's all like look at how he solved a calculus problem
@TVwriter23 totally agree. It spoke for both and made her his perfect match. Beautiful and Handsome but real in what mattered and who they were and what they loved. Also liked how when her friend said if she felt like that and she was beautifulthere was no home for girls like her that she came right back. Fuss fighting, " are you saying you aren't.?!!" As she would fight anyone saying her friend wasn't & including her friend.

Just never got that. I think it was just away to compare two girls beauty and have the best friend not stack up against the main character. I'm so tired of tropes like that in whatever media form.
One of the things I like about You Are My Glory's Yu Tu vs Nai (the drama) is talking about being humbled by college and the real world when he realized there are others smarter than him. TV drama Nai could be too perfect at times.
