I picked up some on clearance, and haven't decided if I would keep them yet. I've watched probably 50 videos on them, not including the Tim Holtz demos I've seen, and your video is the first that actually makes me want to keep them. Love that you just dug in there and had fun with them.
I think I will probably try these (because I am a supply junkie) but they do not look as good quality at my Caran d'Ache crayons or Prima oil pastels or even gelatos BUT I will definitely try it and make up my own mind;) Thanks Julie!

These are growing on me the more reviews I watch. If you use a primer or base before using the crayons you'll find the colour will lift better as will be slightly less porous. Also his micro glaze makes water soluble mediums waterproof so you can use to seal or add more medium on too without disturbing your crayon effect. Love your experiments and I'm anew subbie.
I just watched a video where TH said that micro glaze WON'T work with the distress crayons...?!? Maybe pastel spray fixative? Or that Jane Davenport idea of applying clear gel medium to a gelly plate and 'printing' it on the artwork to fix water soluble media. Oops...that may have been a secret! Eek! And i second the comment that says to watch his side by side of the crayons v gelatos. Very helpful. Julie helped me realise with this video how important it probably is to play with a new medium before you know much about it. That way you have no preconceptions/subconscious influences about how it 'should' be used. As ever, thanks Julie. You're a breath of fresh air 😇

You can lift the colors way easier when using a stencil if you had used the distress collage medium before hand. (Comes in 3 different effects) Great tutorial. Thank you.
This was a great demo/process/tutorial video. I learned a lot and just might try these now!!!!! I love the gelatos, but agree the longer marker like shape might be easier to hold onto. Watched a Tim Holtz video where he said you can seal with his Distress Micro Glaze and it will be truly permanent. Also not as pricey as gelatos. TFS
Limor Webber - Tim Holtz explains, himself, how distress crayons don't smear until touched/moved plus they don't over blend and make mud with distress INKS and remain vibrant. Also these crayons show up vibrantly on BLACK and craft card, unlike gelatos. So there are key differences that give the user options. And keep in mind his vid is a direct side by side comparison of his crayons & gelatos.

Thanks for the tip on the micro glaze. I was thinking spray fixative, as I have to use with the gelatos.
You're welcome. Yes fixative is my initial thought too until I saw somewhere someone using the glaze and it worked brilliantly

They remind me of the Crayola slicks which I use sometimes on my paper crafting.

Hi Julie you might like the Faber Castell Gelatos way better! so much pigment, blendable and water soluble as well.

Great video. Was wondering how well pens write over the top of the crayons and also do they blend better if you use gesso first?
+Meliri I didn't try writing on top of them. And see my comment above about gesso. :)
They totally remind me of Crayola twistables. really close in the look and they were like gelatos too..if you haven't tried them you should; c)
I saw a demo at the Carson Stamp Show today...you need to gesso the surface first and the crayons will smudge easier.

Do you need to use a fixative with these as you do with pastels or gelatos?
They're very similar to gelatos. If you use a fixative with gelatos, I would use one with these.

Just wondering how they do if you gesso the tag first.
+Danielle Kelly I don't think that's a good idea. These are meant for porous surfaces. Gesso will make the surface non-porous.
@@BalzerDesigns tim says they work better on primed surfaces and move better because the surface is less porous.
And they are expensive...why I don’t know...at the well known stores.
love the vid but the porduct is so crap. i think its a reach for tim holts
