That's actually a friend of mine who also lives in DFW, haha. And he was definitely there for the Coheed show, he's also a big fan, and he was just there with friends. But yes, he does know good music, being a hardcore Coheed fan 😅
Yeah, Lol. And in the daytime, in front of a model car, wearing shorts and barefoot because it was 100 degrees out. Doesn't fit the dark intensity of the song at times for sure, haha
God damn. Y'all crushed that. It's refreshing to see people cover Coheed songs other than their singles, and this has to be one of their hardest ones to get tight. Shout-out to your lead guitarist, too. He NAILED Travis' parts.
Thanks so much man!! And yep, Steed and Larry are detail-oriented players like me, they love getting every part just right, even with slides and bends and such, they both crushed it. And his parts are a big reason why I went with some electric instruments this time, because you just can't really put some of the Willing Well stuff on violin/viola/cello, or even acoustic guitar, and have it sound even close to right, haha
I agree, the ending is my favorite part of any Coheed song ever. It's just so amazing and energetic and perfect sounding. Absolute blast to play and sing
@@brycecohoon Come see us at a show someday hopefully! We're The Neverenders now, can find us on Instagram. And we play on the Coheed cruises and doing some land shows now too! West coast dates in a few weeks! And thanks man!
I agree!! It's possibly my all-time favorite Coheed song. It's literally incredible from start to finish. And a real bitch to play, especially because we went a little fast at the beginning 😂
@@SeanUNT still sounds great! im working on relearning all the willing well songs myself. its been a while since that album came out and i learned them!
@@SeanUNT your cover is not only beautiful but it's inspiring. Thanks for the musical majesty. My favorite to play is the light and the glass. It's slightly difficult especially alone on acoustic and vocals but so damn fun.
@Theogvineofthedead Check out my cover of Light and the Glass with Larry on my channel, right next to this one! I think you'll enjoy it. Love that one too
HOT DAMN y'all sound fantastic! This is a tough song to nail and everyone's on point here - I was about to call out some standouts (your vocals, that incredible bass tone, the suuuper tight cajon playing, the guitar work) but then I realized I'm shouting out every part of the performance haha
Yeah, it wasn't a great setup for playing for the line unfortunately. When Coheed played at Southside Ballroom, I did this thing a couple times, and everyone hung out in the parking lot where the line was for hours beforehand and it was a big party almost, haha. At the Toyota they rushed everyone inside almost immediately, and there was no real line-up in advance/not good place for it. So I don't know if I'll do this before a Dallas show again, maybe someday if the situation seems right. But we're getting to play on the Coheed cruise (for a 2nd time) in October, so that's gonna be epic!
Thank you!! Really appreciate that. The parts to this song are crazy intricate, and we definitely loved spending time getting it all figured out correctly
That's a battery powered bass amp! Called the Pignose/Hog. You charge the built-in battery, and it's super powerful. It really emphasizes the higher treble-range growl/bite in the electric bass tone, because it's not a big enough speaker to properly have the full bottom end. But that ironically makes it sound very similar to Mic Todd's treble-emphasized intense bass tone on GA1, haha. And thanks man, glad you enjoyed it!
And here I am again. This is awesome! One of m y favorites to play along with on drums…I’ll be your harmony singerany day man, the harmonies sound on this whole album are just so unique. Anyway you guys are awesome. The whole willing well is some of my favorite stuff of theirs. and you guys put your own thing on it and it works very well.
Haha, well, not all. I'm cheating a little using electric guitar and electric bass. This song and several of the more complex others really needed them. But it's half-acoustic at least, with me and the cajon, Lol. But we did have the electric guitar use a lot less distortion/overdrive, and cleaner more sustained notes and less palm muting than usual, to try to give the lead gtr parts more smooth legato moments. It does really change it though, highlighting all the instrumental and melodic parts more. I love how much more detail of the writing comes out this way
The first 3 Willing Wells are all both their greatest compositional achievement and also some of the hardest songs in their catalog for sure. We played them all in a row, it was quite a journey, haha. And thanks!
Hey Sean, great cover! I saw you on facebook awhile back talking about how your voice became damaged at some point, but it seems now your voice is back to being amazing!
It did recover a good bit by the time of these videos, but then I got super sick on the Coheed cruise on the last day and a half. Lost my voice and couldn't play our 3rd set after we had played the first two nights in the Faint of Hearts bar, and miserable sore throat/swollen tonsils. So I ended up having my tonsils taken out in late December. I'm still recovering vocally from that, but I'm hoping it will bring great results once my throat has adapted
@@SeanUNT Ah damn, I'm sure it'll be fine soon, really looking forward to more covers! Really wish I could've went on the cruise, it seemed like it was so damn fun
You don't know the half of it, haha. We played for 90 min (longer than Coheed's set that night and we played way deeper cuts, haha), and we played WW2 and WW3 as well, plus 2113. We're masochists, haha. I'll be posting more later!
I strongly recommend buying the official TAB book for starters. You can get it on Amazon for pretty cheap! And there's a great one for IKS and NWFT too. It's like 95% accurate. Very close to perfect, they just don't get some of the strange ways Claudio plays certain things, like the really fast lick in the verses with a bunch of HO/PO. And they get some stuff with the right notes but in the wrong part of the neck sometimes too. But overall very accurate. And you can use RUclips videos of Claudio playing it live to figure out exactly how/where Claudio does some parts. Claudio also did a slowed down tutorial on the verse riff and fast lick! Search for Claudio Sanchez Riff Lords. All that will give you way more detail than I probably would ever get around to doing, haha. Get those TAB books though, for real! Killer stuff in there, for all guitar parts
@@SeanUNT Thank you so much man, gonna get some of them rn! I've started watching the riff lords video but only got a few songs in, definitely gonna get those books and give the vids another look. Again, thanks👍
