      @jabrockobiden9434 this is most idoitic statment ever. If you think that the makers of Baldurs Gate 3 or KC 1 and KC 2 does not have something like HR you know nothing of how company operate. HR is not only responsebil for worker relationship but so much more. Contract enforcement, Stealing of intellectual property, handling of legal complaint for example in regards to compansation of work and so on.
      That go under Human ressources as well. Yes not every company has their own HR department but that is because of seize. If you cross a certain seize you need people that only focus on that.

      Its actually an example of Capitalism working as intended. The one dumb chatter is probably the kind who conflates Corporatism as being the same as Capitalism. The market has responded, the Triple A DEI colored slop has been rejected by the market and as per Capitalism, the market has demanded a better product at a better price. And they got it because the industry is filled and competition is high.

      Devs dont understand that live service only works if the bse game is good enough. Live service is nothing more than a single player game with multiplayer port with unlimited DLC expansion.
      Yes, the base game, the one on release should be good first before you plan on what to add to the game. You dont plan a future release without the main drop succeeding first.

    I think the big reason why indie games are becoming more and more popular is because the indie devs are putting the fries in the bag and then telling me that they're fries and that they're in the bag
    instead of shitting in the bag telling me that the bag of shit is fries and then calling me racist for saying that it's a bag of shit.

      @TheOnlyJoshH Most people have a decent enough rig to play recent games. Look how popular Baldur's Gate 3 and Expedition 33 are, they're not exactly 2D pixel art.

      @jethrodark2372 17 days ago +14

      @TheOnlyJoshH? Wtf games are you playing that require a 4090? All games are tuned around consoles and consoles can't outdo a 3080 card much less a 4090.
      Tho with the RAM/Memory shortages we will all be screwed eventually. So these companies better start optimizing the shit out of their games. And start catering graphics to the 3000-5000 series. Cause that's what most people will be using for the foreseeable future oof.

    Remember that every time an indie game like Mewgenics is attacked by mainstream outlets, it's just because journalists are scared of losing their job and for no other reason. Journos hate indie games because they're a threat to the chokehold they have on access journalism. Indies don't send out review codes, and as soon as these people don't have exclusive coverage, they know they can't survive in the free market of ideas.

      b) Open world walking simulators with meaningless loots thrown around to be collected.
      c) Overpriced games which will be forgotten in weeks.
      It's like if vegan activists infiltrated food industries and forced McD, KFC, Five Guys, Wendy etc to drop their meat product and replacing all of them with plant based substitutes. Then they start shaming anyone wanting meats, using term animal abuser etc and put it in advertisements, news and articles for decades. Calling consumer meat-gate or something. Then they wonder why all these participating restaurants are failing and people choose small pop's shop which served animal product.

    13:55 I asked myself a while back why I don't enjoy single player games anymore like I used to. I'd start them, play the combat for the first bit, sit through some long ass narrative, then walk away and never pick them back up. But when I realized it wasn't a "single player" problem, I came to the conclusion that the games that could still hold me for hours on end with no issue -- they were the games that actually just let me play them. So I changed my focus on which games I played, and I've been perfectly happy in single player games again.

    • @dlc_2678
      @dlc_2678 16 days ago

      I'd like to also interject and add the fact that even single player games are now being monetized and requiring a perma online connection to play like the more recent Assassin's Creed games where you have a cash shop just FILLED with loads of weapons, skins, outfits, mounts, as well as advertisements and banners pushing all of the DLC for the game. It's extremely egregious and entirely unnecessary and is fueled by nothing more than corporate greed.

      the ai frame thing gets a lot better with time. and since i connected my pc just with my tv it is not necessary to run games with more than 60fps(much more frames usually create screen tearing with my tv, altough with frame generation you can also reduce the tearing almost 100% ). and even without ai framegen all the games i play work fine on max settings.

      I quit PC gaming because of that very reason. Every year or two you need a new attachment and it’s like they’ve made computer parts to only last that long as well. It’s McAffee still the “virus doctor”. Gates made virus so we had to buy the virus fixers yearly!!

      @memorysometimers3067The vast majority of games dont require new hardware at all lol, its only a handful of large studios making unoptimized garbage games. I havent upgraded a single component on my pc in like 10 years and can still run every game i play at decent fps without issue.

And yes “virus doctor” is not the proper term but I was just trying to get a laugh or two. Again sorry for the disaster of my silly comment. Have a great day!

    30:30 this is a common misconception about older games. They did not just drop you in the game and expect you to figure it out by guessing with no context. 99% of games back then came with a manual inside the cover that you were expected to read to have the knowledge to start the game. It typically included the story intro, the buttons, and other helpful info like maps. I actually got really sad when modern games stopped including them in the package. I can skim through the manual a lot faster than playing through a hand held tutorial.

Complete waste of time, I technically worked a 12 hour shift because of the meeting. They paid me overtime for that. I think it's because back when Pokemon first came out there were a half dozen copies that never got past their first version and just moved onto different IPs. Monster rancher and Digimon were the primary competition. The smaller monster collector games fell to the wayside. Since then, no one did it right. And I think Pokemon had a very "(mostly) beastial creatures in a cute but cool" art style. People didn't get visually pleased from competitors since Palworld.

If you want to tackle bosses, farm, get luminas up, you can, you are not pushed to go directly from one part of the story to another like The Last of Us. It is a video game with the type of narrative and story like old games used to have, but incremented with cutscenes.

      Let the AAA part of the industry fund indie, while it being the last nail in the AAA game industry coffins. Hopefully the indi devs do grab the bag that secures their future, and use it to produce more themselves.

Heck, if you go back through some beloved early games with any kind of story, you'll probably find some left wing propaganda. That's the thing, though. You have to look. That's also why so many streamers are so popular, to be able to watch the game being played, which doesn't take anywhere as near hardware.

      Maybe if RAM wasn't used in such huge amounts, on both motherboards and GPU's, supply could catch up with demand.
      It's almost insane how much RAM is used in gaming rigs, all because people want to play on highest settings, with room left to stream it, while they don't actually give a fuck about how the individual blades of grass are rendered to move individually, and don't stream. Plus ray tracing.

    It used to be called a load screen, because it was a short intro vid playing while the game was loading. Followed by maybe a short tutorial or "training" intro to how to play the game enough to survive.
    Now it's like a short film, followed by screen after screen on every aspect of the game, with a short movie between every level, and sometimes mid level . Which is designed to be marketing more than gameplay, but has to be in the "game" to make the marketing relevant to the game. It's ass backwards.

Over 70% of the library on my Switch, which has a terabyte, are games I've yet to try. It doesn't help that I have games like Snowrunner, Skul, Hades, Gungeon, Dead Cells, and a dozen other games that Ive easily put over 100 hours in. Most of those hours on the switch, since all of the games listed I own on multiple platforms.

    I predicted this happening over 15 years ago. I knew then that AAA was unsustainable and that indies would conquer. What I didn't predict was live service keeping AAA afloat for several years and then HR culture torpedoing it right after.

    • @akashiseijuro5216
      @akashiseijuro5216 17 days ago

      The thing is, live service only works when quality product is ensured. Companies that started as a live service publisher/distributor knows this. It's the reason why giants like Tencent and Netease exist or studios like Digital Extremes (maker of Warframe 12 years strong live service game with consistent player base) or Gacha game developers continue on to be at the top of revenue charts month after month.
      You can call the system trash but you can't deny that to make the system work, you need to ensure that the system delivers quality to the consumers.
      And apparently, majority of western companies and studios ignores that.

    My biggest gripe about the direction of the game industry over the past 15 years has been with other gamers tbh. There are so many people who have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on garbage like Clash of Clans over the years. When fake games like that become major cash cows, despite having no gameplay, that completely changes the design philosophy of the entire industry.
    Why did people have to be so weak to fall for that nonsense?

    On the topic of tutorials, Gen 3/4/5 games _did_ have them, but they were integrated in to gameplay so you didn't even notice. For example, look at Megaman X on the SNES. You push "game start" and immediately have full control of your character and can do whatever you want, but the intro stage teaches you everything you need to know about playing the game (I guess besides dashing, but that's a power-up you get later, so understandable). It throws in some bottomless pits which introduces you to the "pit = death" mechanic, but they are forgiving and very easy to get over unlike later in the game. After the helicopters crash and destroy the bridge, you are forced to learn how to scale walls to continue with the level. The intro stage has many unique enemies that deal reduced damage from stages later, which means you can still die when you run out of HP, but again, it's not as punishing as the rest of the game, etc.

    7:15 True. However, indie games still manage to give out updates years after release because people still buy the games and the cost of development is in different universes compared to AAA. Take Stardew Valley, a game that came out about 10 years ago now. CA said he was 100% done with the game when update 1.6 launched, but he couldn't resist and now update 1.7 is in the works. A game that costs $10 and people play for thousands of hours.

      No, the industry is just contracting back to normal size. The Panda Demec supercharged it, increasing its size by like 30% almost overnight. Companies held onto that growth without trimming down for far too long because slimming down is far harder than growing. (bigger offices, firing employees has tons of pushback and bad PR, investors don't like seeing shrinkage, etc). So we got to the current rapture. It was inevitable. The industry was never gonna stay at the boosted Panda Demec status.
