Asked to get in early just to say thanks to this community for all the support you've shown me.
You guys making your voices heard is why the money and the players are flowing in the right direction.
Big W
Rare asmon heart
Gamers rise up! ✊🏻
You are great at explaining current situations. Thank you and god bless you sir
Yeah cos you're a good guy, keep up the vids.
Tired of paying $70 for HR propaganda.
And that's why you now have to pay 80.
Make HR illegal
@jabrockobiden9434 this is most idoitic statment ever. If you think that the makers of Baldurs Gate 3 or KC 1 and KC 2 does not have something like HR you know nothing of how company operate. HR is not only responsebil for worker relationship but so much more. Contract enforcement, Stealing of intellectual property, handling of legal complaint for example in regards to compansation of work and so on.
That go under Human ressources as well. Yes not every company has their own HR department but that is because of seize. If you cross a certain seize you need people that only focus on that.
The dlc not included
KCD is lame and gay
Indie games arn't "stealing" anything, people simply play the better games.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Indie devs stole my heart.
Imagine a group or corporation thinking they have a right to literally _own_ customers, to the point that they can be _stolen,_ ignoring the fact that customers are living people... What is up with that, where's the shrieking Karens?
Seriously, they're not stealing, they're winning. They're creating the better product and thus earning their market share.
Agreed, they feel so entitled to our money it's "stealing" if we go buy a better product
Its actually an example of Capitalism working as intended. The one dumb chatter is probably the kind who conflates Corporatism as being the same as Capitalism. The market has responded, the Triple A DEI colored slop has been rejected by the market and as per Capitalism, the market has demanded a better product at a better price. And they got it because the industry is filled and competition is high.
We begged for good games. Pleaded. Screamed to the heavens for new games to be fun. We were called racists for even asking.
I remember this, the dark ages.
... and then "articles" get written asking "Why is everyone just replaying old games? 😭😭😭"
Which similarly has also been written about music, movies, and shows (except for anime).
"How dare you not like every character to be fat, ugly, or trans!"
while everything we used to love, got shit on.
How dare you, you racists?!
If you add every spice on the spice rack into your soup, no ones gonna eat it. Just because they are all available, doesn't mean you should use em all at once.
Crimson desert enters the chat.
@sambakerman9406 What's with the fake hate on Crimson Desert? White protagonist in trailer got you lefties upset?
Devs dont understand that live service only works if the bse game is good enough. Live service is nothing more than a single player game with multiplayer port with unlimited DLC expansion.
Yes, the base game, the one on release should be good first before you plan on what to add to the game. You dont plan a future release without the main drop succeeding first.
tuff name brotato 🥹❤️🩹
Game companies should be run by chefs instead of shareholders? 🤔
Just remember Triple A Ubisoft with a premium $130 game with 1000 employees lost to one guy who made Schedule 1
They already had thoughts about AAAA games, lol
It's hilarious you bring up schedule 1: a rug pull. lol
Ubisoft should get comfortable with gamers not buying their games
he’s actually doing so well with the game especially since he was doing it solo up until recently where he got another member or two, which means the game will mostly speed up new content and more content to come
@doxorn Havent bought a ubisoft game since they started making you use their crappy launcher, (like 10 years lol)
I think the big reason why indie games are becoming more and more popular is because the indie devs are putting the fries in the bag and then telling me that they're fries and that they're in the bag
instead of shitting in the bag telling me that the bag of shit is fries and then calling me racist for saying that it's a bag of shit.
This ^
I think it has to do more with…playability
These indie games don’t need a 4090 to play.
@TheOnlyJoshH Most people have a decent enough rig to play recent games. Look how popular Baldur's Gate 3 and Expedition 33 are, they're not exactly 2D pixel art.
@TheOnlyJoshH? Wtf games are you playing that require a 4090? All games are tuned around consoles and consoles can't outdo a 3080 card much less a 4090.
Tho with the RAM/Memory shortages we will all be screwed eventually. So these companies better start optimizing the shit out of their games. And start catering graphics to the 3000-5000 series. Cause that's what most people will be using for the foreseeable future oof.
@TheOnlyJoshH don’t be ridiculous lmao!!! ‘The game isn’t bad it’s your PC’ no. Worst take I’ve heard this year.
When the competition from AAA is Concord, Concord 2, Concord 3 and Concord 4, is it any wonder that indie is dominating?
AAA studios seem dead set in forcing the “Concord” formula on to the market until it succeeds.
AAA sells the games for the investors, not the consumer base. hence Concord. indies dont represent the investors, theyre making games for the consumers. identical structures but different priority.
Meanwhile they're also making Dustborn-like (Relooted) and Veilguard-like (new Fable game) into their own genres.
@dendrien different structures because of the priorities*
Concord
Concord 2 - Highguard
Concord 3 - Killing Inn (Square Enix new early access shooter that is DoA)
Concord 4 - Marathon (this might survive but who knows)
Concord 5 - dat horizon game that looks like concord
Remember that every time an indie game like Mewgenics is attacked by mainstream outlets, it's just because journalists are scared of losing their job and for no other reason. Journos hate indie games because they're a threat to the chokehold they have on access journalism. Indies don't send out review codes, and as soon as these people don't have exclusive coverage, they know they can't survive in the free market of ideas.
So true...We noticed this AGES ago which was what kicked off Gamergate and they've done the exact same thing this entire time...getting paid under the table or given a copy of the game a couple of weeks or a month early in exchange for high praise and reviews....each and every one of them are worthless shills and their articles and opinions should be entirely ignored.
Damn good point! 💡
AAA devs want you to buy their games, indie devs want you to have fun with their games.
^^^This^^^
AAA DEVS: But...But the message 😢
Well said
AAA devs want you to buy their unfinished games*
Issue is that AAA devs want earn cash from most players = games need to be inclusive = woke , and majority players dont look that shite in game ...
Highguard dropped to 789 players last night.
😂
In the last 3 days its getting harder and harder for them to reach 2k, its going there but not constant above it.
Lowguard
Flopguard
@cattysplat _____guard
AAA companies: you will own nothing and like it
Gamers: you get no money and we like it
Modern games =
a) Forcing sickening agendas while hating normality.
b) Open world walking simulators with meaningless loots thrown around to be collected.
c) Overpriced games which will be forgotten in weeks.
It's like if vegan activists infiltrated food industries and forced McD, KFC, Five Guys, Wendy etc to drop their meat product and replacing all of them with plant based substitutes. Then they start shaming anyone wanting meats, using term animal abuser etc and put it in advertisements, news and articles for decades. Calling consumer meat-gate or something. Then they wonder why all these participating restaurants are failing and people choose small pop's shop which served animal product.
0:58 true happend in bruce green's stream. the indie dev was watching him run into a bug on stream and told him to give him 5 min to fix it.
3:40 "People love to see the little guy win"
Yes
But i'd also argue "People love to see the arrogant, 'big-shots' lose even more"
True- I bought Palworld because I wanted to see nintendo burn
True, only thing Merica loves more than a come back! Is someone ripped off their petalstool
"Revenge of the Nerds" 😆
I agree; I love companies that haven't screwed us over but watching companies that've thumbed their nose at us get shown the door is so pleasurable I wish it came in drug form, lol
Psychologically, people prefer to see the villain lose rather than the hero win. Humans are weird lol
The soul of gaming returns when indie studios dare to build what corporations won’t.
Well said. Couldn't agree more. This is what so many of us hoped would happen, and finally it is. Proud of my fellow gamers for finally voting with their wallets.
G00ners and r@cists killed AAA games, because those are the terms that the industry now uses to describe most gamers
AAA: hundreds of devs, millions in budget, zero soul. Indie: two devs, zero budget, millions of players
Reminds of Markiplier s success with Iron Lung.
How many of the 20k indie games released in 2025 via steam have soul?
@Palasta-Z Games, not scams/assetflips
Try to make a game by polling and politics results in failure. They sold the fun and passion for bottom line and pandering.
@Bryan-TheRockstarWhy does a hobby that people want to rest with HAS to become a ****** propaganda, messages and politics. Also, Detroit: Become Human IS ABOUT those themes, but somehow,it ended up A BANGER,and it's still selling tons of copies, especially on sales!
30:35 to be fair, these games were explained in the manuals, but we played them when we were kids that could barely read.
Don't underestimate how betrayed gamers feel and how that will impact support for large studios going forward.
I haven't given DICE or EA any money since Battlefield 4, after the horrendous launch and the direction that releasing games in "Alpha" condition was part of their business model.
"Betrayed" implies you assumed they would be loyal to you to begin with, that's not how any companies works.
*Earned
Not stolen.
Relooted 😂
@asdfnew352 underrated joke😂
"iT wAsNt mAdE fOr U"
"Why arent you buying it?!"
EA can't believe that updating jersey number isn't considered a new title.
or that fps games need more than a handful of maps
But did you see the grass!!???
Ironically, those are the only games they have that aren't in decline.
EA still has the sports game market cornered and it grows every year.
@69nitesits called a monopoly
they have no competition.
13:55 I asked myself a while back why I don't enjoy single player games anymore like I used to. I'd start them, play the combat for the first bit, sit through some long ass narrative, then walk away and never pick them back up. But when I realized it wasn't a "single player" problem, I came to the conclusion that the games that could still hold me for hours on end with no issue -- they were the games that actually just let me play them. So I changed my focus on which games I played, and I've been perfectly happy in single player games again.
I'd like to also interject and add the fact that even single player games are now being monetized and requiring a perma online connection to play like the more recent Assassin's Creed games where you have a cash shop just FILLED with loads of weapons, skins, outfits, mounts, as well as advertisements and banners pushing all of the DLC for the game. It's extremely egregious and entirely unnecessary and is fueled by nothing more than corporate greed.
For the money of 1 AAA deluxe edition game i can buy 4-5 better indie games
The first jobs that AI should replace is HR ...
When you remember that HR departments only exist because of problematic women in the workplace. Literally created a department to regulate themselves. HR didnt exist when only men worked. Throw hands behind the company dumpster and go back to work, it worked.
Ive been a hiring manager and the most problematic employees had a uterus. Sorry, not sorry, its the truth. No one causes more problems at work than the women. Id rather fight Gary from accounting than deal with Sharon from the office.
And who do you think would program all the Karen mentality personality into AI ?! Karens….
Won't need HR anymore cause many games will be made by small teams of friends in their basement 😅
I don't know... Have you talked to Chat GPT? I think it's personality IS HR.
Indie to AAA studios: Thanks for your lunch, what's for supper?
Yeah, Im totally not waiting for RE9 to drop in 10 days at 11pm while I play Nioh 3 and consider buying Space Marines 2 while its on sale.
Triple A isnt dead, its just becoming like the indie market, saturated in garbage with a few diamonds.
Honestly the most reasonable take
I would agree. I love both indie and AAA, but both are filled with garbage with occasional hard hitting gems that keep us happy and entertained until the next great one drops
30:00 holy shit! Earthworm Jim. That's a blast from the past.
I love that game! I wish they would release a physical for the switch!
Peak game design!
Toejam and Earle
Palworld and Silksong captured that old midnight launch feeling. I remeber with Palworld, the buy button wouldn't appear on Steam for ages, and Silksong... it took out Nintendo, Sony, and even the mighty Valve servers. Apeing out on Discord with mates all round the world was a great experience.
Also now, that like 80% of gamers won't be able to afford a new computer in the foreseeable future, having games with low system reqs and that are well optimized will be crucial.
i bought a graphics card for 380 bucks. and it is better than the 3070ti i bought for way more several years ago. my 3070ti had some issues and i was not able to burn so much money again.
the ai frame thing gets a lot better with time. and since i connected my pc just with my tv it is not necessary to run games with more than 60fps(much more frames usually create screen tearing with my tv, altough with frame generation you can also reduce the tearing almost 100% ). and even without ai framegen all the games i play work fine on max settings.
They’ll probably just push more for the whales, the gaming industry doesn’t know anything other than blind greed
Great so now we have to have ugly games because you're poor.
Add to that, UE5 is a buggy mess that was rushed out the door.
Why do you need to keep buying computers? Mine is mid range 6 years old. Still going strong
Maybe if AAAA gaming didnt require a Day 1 patch and a GPU from 2055 to run at 10fps at 720p......
I quit PC gaming because of that very reason. Every year or two you need a new attachment and it’s like they’ve made computer parts to only last that long as well. It’s McAffee still the “virus doctor”. Gates made virus so we had to buy the virus fixers yearly!!
@memorysometimers3067The vast majority of games dont require new hardware at all lol, its only a handful of large studios making unoptimized garbage games. I havent upgraded a single component on my pc in like 10 years and can still run every game i play at decent fps without issue.
@memorysometimers3067 "It's McAffee still the virus doctor." That is NOT a sentence.
@DH-oj2ruok cool. What games you playin then? So you’re telling me a new “AAA” game can run just fine on a full 10 year old setup? Do you turn down a lot of things in “settings” ?
@iLoveGrammar46holy F you folks are critical while eating cheesy puffs and sprite. My fingers touch 2 buttons a lot. Sorry for the misspelling and forgot the question mark. Here I’ll redo it for you so I doesn’t ruin your day. Is Mcafee still the “virus doctor” ? There we go so sorry. And yes “virus doctor” is not the proper term but I was just trying to get a laugh or two. Again sorry for the disaster of my silly comment. Have a great day!
2:03 "Investor-backed Independent Triple-A" is not a phrase that should exist in the gaming industy
Its a paradoxon. Investor-backed is not independent. They are depending on their investors
What an abomination. They're gonna ruin everything aren't they.
it's the same oxymoronic dishonesty as state-sponsored independent media, like in Austria. People are seriously stupid enough to defend the idea that a newspaper, which can't support itself through sales and ads (and they do exist!), absolutely **needs** to be supported by the government, but definitively and without the shadow of a doubt is still **independent.**
@SolsticeProjekt it's never independent. Usually media leans quite heavily to the left nowadays
@dann4president540 Exactly!
thats why i loved battlefield 1s intro it just throws you into a battle you aren’t expected to survive
32:28 Man it's silly but in Mewgenics seeing the short grass that seemed to do nothing and wondering what it was for only to have that light bulb moment when a wet cat walked over it and the grass grew into long grass for cover was very satisfying.
Edmund and the rest of the team dont fuck around. Theres a reason BOI still has players and content after over a decade. Those guys just make good games.
"Did ya win son?" "Yes, dad - yes."
What did you do ?
Nothing -Gaben
Yes!
After everything they have tried to do to this hobby I'm glad to see them haemorrhage money. I hope they go out of business.
Stop hitting me in the feels
80 $ for a game and then its only to give you access to a games pass
It's why one of my side hustles is paying off, repairing PS2 and PS3 consoles.
People are pulling them out, putting in game, switching them on, and the dust is destroying them in a few minutes.......
Disgusting 🎉🎉
All the games we liked that are "corpo" games now where indies inthe 90s or early 2000s. Blizzard was an indie studio once.
Grow too big, become corpo slop
Correct. And the cycle is ever going.
@jackwong5816 Facts. Same for a lot of things though... E.g. when most RUclipsrs/Streamers grow, their egos grow with them. You, the viewer, become just a number and humility goes straight out the window. So the goal should be regulation of some kind. It's like how uncapped FPS can make your PC explode.
We've only been warning "the industry" for over a decade now since gamergate.
All gamers want are fun games, imagine that
I would like to piggyback off this and add I don't want dailies, weeklies, monthlies. I just want to play the game and not wait to play.
@Calphurnious I accept and second your piggyback. Dailies, weeklies and monthlies are monotonous and boring.
Reggie famously said: "If it isn't fun, why bother?"
Mario Bros 1 does have a tutorial, it is the natural tutorial that within 5 seconds it teaches you about enemies, how to kill the goomba or die, about dying, about jumping into brick blocks and noting happening, about hitting into question mark blocks and something happening, and how to get over an obstacle to progress.
All without a single word! =)
where winds meet is an absolute winner for me, just has everything
Just look at titles like Dragon Age, Civ 7, Concord, Assassin’s Creed etc. Many AAA houses have forgotten how to make games.
COD, Battlefield, the Witcher series, Ghost of Woketei…the list continues
Don't forget Saints Row 😂
@chalupabatman4978I forgot they put out that new abomination of a game lmao
They hire activist that make propaganda disguised as "games" to spite actual gamers
Dude, I LOVE CIV 5 & 6
I could not be any less interested in CIV 7
The darkness is leaving this world in all of its forms.
When Jensen Wong is Hung "gamers won"
Indie game : pay 14$ for the game , no season pass , no fking cinematique , no micro transation , enter and play the game. What is hard to understand?
But but...what about the shareholders? Oh yeah, they don't need to appease to those
You forget that for the indie game you dont need a 5000 dollar pc to play it somewhat as intended.
@EnterUserName-t4r with many AAA games the $5000 PC still has performance issues... that''s how bad it has gotten... they can't even optimize this crap anymore.
That's why I'm playing boomer shooters. Another upside are the low hardware requirements despite an aesthetic which I generally find quite original and atmospheric
@control_the_pet_populationname one game, and I'm not trying to be a dick about it, just actually curious
30:30 this is a common misconception about older games. They did not just drop you in the game and expect you to figure it out by guessing with no context. 99% of games back then came with a manual inside the cover that you were expected to read to have the knowledge to start the game. It typically included the story intro, the buttons, and other helpful info like maps. I actually got really sad when modern games stopped including them in the package. I can skim through the manual a lot faster than playing through a hand held tutorial.
Plus they naturally increased the difficulty and complexity as you progress the game
@gloworms I really miss this aspect. I know if you want higher difficulty settings are there for those who want a challenge. But I would like a return to adaptive difficulty settings that change based on what's going on in the story of the game.
Also it's probably far cheaper to get this stuff designed and printed than to pay loads of people to create an in-game equivalent.
I had a copy of the red dead redemption map before release and id hang it up in the room as a kid waiting for release!
@JeremyAllstar-k5f on top of that it also means more space for the game itself
I miss all the experimental games they used to make on the Vita and 3DS. Game companies are too scared to take actual risks these days. Their definition of "risk" is either inserting DEI into the game or redesigning a character no one had a problem with.
Yea, they're too scared because gamers ruined the market. They prefer content-trash over quality, and that's what you get.
@Palasta-Z gamers didn't ruin the market. casuals ruined things
Oh man...I still yearn for another Trauma Center game... That shit was so good.
@Palasta-Z That sounds like streamer problems.
@toomanyaccounts Casuals made things worse but they didn't ruin the market. The attempt to social engineer/ brainwash the audience while simultaneously producing trash games AND trying to extract the maximum amount of $$$ from the gamers killed the market. One of those things alone would have been bad for the industry, all 3 together create a perfect storm of triple ass-kicking.
Focus and then explode.
I was there for Halo 3, COD MW2, Mass Effect 2 and more. Met some friends and stood outside for 4-5 hours to get the new big release. AAA just doesn't hit the same anymore
Mewgenics made back it's money back in the first 6 hours.
Deserved
Became back it's money*
Daaayyuum
Good for him, he is such an OG indie dev (Meatboy and Binding of Isaac are foundational indie games), doesn't hurt he also turned out to be a chill dude, so win win.
Mewgenics traded on the success on Binding of Isaac alot. It's why I told my friends about it long before it released. It's why I looked at it.
I think nobody have anything against cutscenes and deep lore / story if it's executed right like Mass Effect trilogy, RDR2, Witcher 3, etc. The problem is when devs are introducing modern politics into their products.
Just give us a toggle off for it all, then we can all be happy.
Rdr2 is probably the longest game I have ever played just from everything you can do it inbetween missions, and I wanted it to be even longer. You got it spot on with the examples. Deep lore to a lot of AAA devs means sitting in a ten minute dialogue with comic relief snappy black lesbian sidekick number 3 learning why she shaved her hair asymmetrically.
@Right-Is-RightOn PC, when you click "E", usually skip cutscenes. Sure, you'll have no idea what's going on, who is who, what is where, but you'll be happy.
Asmon talks about the d2 cutscenes often. I think he just hates modern games being full of it and it's mostly bad
But a game like bioshock has politics involved
I think it’s more on the execution and having gamers as like just along for the ride instead of trying to educate or force an ideology or agenda on them.
You make a good point... many times I go in for an interview and listen to the questions that the HR people are asking... knowing full well that not only did HR not understand the question neither did the person that gave HR the question.
And worse still they would not even understand the answer.
"It's because of agile development" - as someone who works in agile every day I can confirm its so inefficient. Meeting after meeting after meeting and all fucking useless and such a waste of time.
Go watch John Cleese meeting bloody meetings. 45mins max. Only useful people there. Agenda who's needed when.
I work as a production technician in a factory and I have my section's schedule down every day for what needs to be done. This is my first full time job out of college so I am not used to a lot of this huge corpo garbage. I was called into a department meeting for an hour long, two hours before my shift, because the supervisors want me to be more aware of what is going on. I didn't learn anything, they didn't learn anything. Conclusion at the end of the meeting was that I would go to my section on my shift and do what I do every day. Complete waste of time, I technically worked a 12 hour shift because of the meeting. They paid me overtime for that. The company just took a 120 dollar crap just for the hell of it as far as I can tell. Can't wait for more of it as my career progresses.
I think he meant “agile development”, not “Agile Development”.
The funny thing about Palworld is I wondered where the hunting and poaching pokemon game was from the start. The first thing I asked af riend when I saw pokemon snap was, where is my poacher hunter game or my pokemon hunter game. Took over 20 years for someone to make Palworld, and i asked that over 20 years ago.
I think it's because back when Pokemon first came out there were a half dozen copies that never got past their first version and just moved onto different IPs. Monster rancher and Digimon were the primary competition. The smaller monster collector games fell to the wayside. Since then, no one did it right. And I think Pokemon had a very "(mostly) beastial creatures in a cute but cool" art style. People didn't get visually pleased from competitors since Palworld.
Disgusting that you wanted to emulate killing and hunting animals thats essentially what you wanted not let's collect and befriend animals nooo let's hunt and kill them...
@stephenfielding9113 it’s a video game..? It’s not that deep.
@stephenfielding9113found a rat😂
@stephenfielding9113 don't you get tired of playing the good guy all the time?
Consumers buy stuff they want/like. Who knew?
Biodrones
Gamers preferring gameplay over graphics has always been that way, it's hilarious they are just now figuring that out.
I wouldn’t say it always been that way cuz it was then we still be on Atari graphics
What I will say is graphics should be the bare minimum and if u cant do that then ik the game is ass
all these decades spend... all these billions upon billions and these AAA developers can't even grasp the very basic of concepts of what their userbase wants! LOL!
it`s not primarily about graphics but how smooth the game runs. top graphics are pointless if the game is clunky. Look at Neo Berlin. The character, especially their facial expressions feel very mechanical. like they are robots. That`s not very immersive, no matter how modern the graphics look.
hell yeah man, fck the predatory wicked industry
Took me a while to realize helldivers 2 is an indie game I thought triple a games started considering their customers voices for a minute
HD2 gave the finger to Sony and their initial requirements for signing in with PS account. It was glorious.
Hope Helldivers 2 can long to be fun as long as the developers have passion though @jackwong5816
@jackwong5816I wouldn’t know about that I have Xbox but that does sound pretty silly lol
Indie games can change to fix their problems much faster and better, highguard had over a year to learn from concord only to come out and be instantly labeled concord 2.
28:55 game used to show you how to play as you went along introducing new mechanics and abilities, some still do but too many dump too much in the beginning
Expedition 33 does have a narrative story, but is set up on a way of old classic games like Final Fantasy, Legend of Dragoon, Dragon Quest etc. You can have dozens of hours from one gameplay scene to another, it is your option. If you want to tackle bosses, farm, get luminas up, you can, you are not pushed to go directly from one part of the story to another like The Last of Us. It is a video game with the type of narrative and story like old games used to have, but incremented with cutscenes.
11:28 cozy base building in AC Shadows
The problem is that publishers would probably try to buy these indie developers, turn them to dust and take their IPs like it happened to most developers in the 90s and early 2000s, instead of just publishing their games or learning from their success. I hope all these developers don't fall for it this time, more money doesn't necessarily make better games.
To be honest, the devs know that franching a game is not the way to go, so maybe they would sell the IP off, take the cash and make their next ten projects.
Let the AAA part of the industry fund indie, while it being the last nail in the AAA game industry coffins. Hopefully the indi devs do grab the bag that secures their future, and use it to produce more themselves.
In Pragmata, you can go into the options menu and turn off tutorial prompts lol
10:00 Realistic graphics are not much of a selling point anymore when pretty much anybody can create ultra-realistic 3D models of themselves with just good lighting, their mobile phone camera and free online photogrammetry program.
Also the fact that gqu and ram cards are jumping in price people can't afford to upgrade
Is it that hard for them to understand that people want to play games instead of looking at grass and see each one of them moving independently in 4K quality, in GAMES!? I CAN JUST GO TO A PUBLIC PARK TO SEE THE GRASS, I CAN EVEN TOUCH IT IF I WANT
i remember hearing from videos past that some leaker came out saying the game industry is gonna start advertising towards us again but still insert their activism into games.
The thing is, they're free to do so. Honestly, it's not the politics that's the problem. All forms of media have some amount of philosophizing, political or otherwise. Heck, if you go back through some beloved early games with any kind of story, you'll probably find some left wing propaganda. That's the thing, though. You have to look. Right now, they're making the same mistakes a number of religious films made. Message, then media. Reverse that, and you can get away with a lot.
AAA has become hollywood. The activism wont stop
Indie Games : Fun while being cheap, easy to run on any system
Triple AAA : Rarely Fun while being overpriced, requiring high end tech while ai keeps cucking pc players
That's a big part of it too, not many people can afford to keep with with the top end/near top end graphics cards. While the biggest pro is being able to sit back and watch short movies inserted into games, while not being able to enjoy it that much while playing the game.
That's also why so many streamers are so popular, to be able to watch the game being played, which doesn't take anywhere as near hardware.
33:07 this I think is why sekiro has stuck with me and ghost of tsushima has failed to do so
Now fix the ram prices
Simple, just get rid of Palantir.
The AI demand is raising prices bigly
@SanctumAnimaChristisadly, that demand is people spamming useless videos on socials and RUclips for money
@ED-EllisDee That's like 10% of it. Schools, businesses and governments using it as part of their work flow accounts for the vast majority of its usage demands. It's no joke.
Maybe if RAM wasn't used in such huge amounts, on both motherboards and GPU's, supply could catch up with demand.
It's almost insane how much RAM is used in gaming rigs, all because people want to play on highest settings, with room left to stream it, while they don't actually give a fuck about how the individual blades of grass are rendered to move individually, and don't stream. Plus ray tracing.
Cause these fucking companies push their employees around and give them an agenda. They dont even know what the industry is about. Nobody wants to create anymore. Nobody loves what he is doing. nobody has passion. They are just filling the checkboxes imposed on them.
The braindead employees they hire also have the agenda. If they hired good devs and made them push an agenda we would still get good games with lame agendas. Instead we get bad games with lame agendas
@ClowdyHowdy
Yes right
Thats how Naughty dog is doing it. Though You will eventually decide to stop supporting their games even if they are good because of the horrible agendas they push. Its just disgusting. No matter how good the games are.
They don't even like/play video games.
Yeah the companies should restructure to allow employees to have more power, perhaps, help them with network code, help them connect players to developers. Good gameplay is hard to see though.
Mewgenics gameplay is so smart and amazing! Great tactical roguelike and the humour is fine
nice little bow on top
People are missing the fact that indies grew because big gaming studios boycotted Steam. Now consumer habits changed. 😂
The biggest mistake they ever made. I simply stopped buying their games (i was aware that they came out) and now i have no idea what games they even make.
eh? this maybe was a factor but not the main one ?
@AlRoasteri Playstation is selling PC games i think he is kinda right xd
ope
Blizzard just put Diablo 2 on Steam a few days ago, I bet it's selling like hotcakes. Why they haven't done that earlier is beyong stupid.
It used to be called a load screen, because it was a short intro vid playing while the game was loading. Followed by maybe a short tutorial or "training" intro to how to play the game enough to survive.
Now it's like a short film, followed by screen after screen on every aspect of the game, with a short movie between every level, and sometimes mid level . Which is designed to be marketing more than gameplay, but has to be in the "game" to make the marketing relevant to the game. It's ass backwards.
....I did spend like..10 hours in Balatro over the weekend....
I got it for free, is it any good? I don't play poker or get the rules so can anyone pick it up?
@leightonrud66yes, honestly. I don’t play poker either and I had a great time with it
@leightonrud66 Anybody can pick it up. There's a guide off to the side during your hands you can click to check what cards make what, it'll help you get the hang of poker rather quickly if you don't play. It's super good and fun.
@robdurfee6861cheers lad, might have to download it! Heard it was fun from a few people
11:19 this reminds me of when I worked at a burrito place. I used to recommend that simple burritos were best because when you try to mix 20 different ingredients just because they taste good individually, you wind up creating edible mud and tasting nothing.
Of the games that came out in the last year, I spent the most time on Schedule 1. I spent like 2 weeks straight on that game
We've won? Maybe, but we haven't yet danced on the graves. Keep going.
29:00 completely agree. It's one of the things that will haunt me when I think of trying out a new game. Just the thought of doing a tutorial makes me avoid trying something new. Over 70% of the library on my Switch, which has a terabyte, are games I've yet to try. It doesn't help that I have games like Snowrunner, Skul, Hades, Gungeon, Dead Cells, and a dozen other games that Ive easily put over 100 hours in. Most of those hours on the switch, since all of the games listed I own on multiple platforms.
I predicted this happening over 15 years ago. I knew then that AAA was unsustainable and that indies would conquer. What I didn't predict was live service keeping AAA afloat for several years and then HR culture torpedoing it right after.
The thing is, live service only works when quality product is ensured. Companies that started as a live service publisher/distributor knows this. It's the reason why giants like Tencent and Netease exist or studios like Digital Extremes (maker of Warframe 12 years strong live service game with consistent player base) or Gacha game developers continue on to be at the top of revenue charts month after month.
You can call the system trash but you can't deny that to make the system work, you need to ensure that the system delivers quality to the consumers.
And apparently, majority of western companies and studios ignores that.
@akashiseijuro5216 Quality is always king
meh, industry got like 30% bigger overnight because of the Panda Demec and when that ended they eventually had to shrink again. That's what's happening now.
Im mostly just playing Sega Dreamcast and Saturn these days. Unbelievably incredible library of games there
I‘m mostly on the Xbox 360 these days, but I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment of just looking towards the past.
any dreamcast recommendations that werent also on the other 6th gen consoles?
Im playing my Sega Master System (Same one I've had since 1989) , game called Alex Kidd in Shinobi world.
@Mattblaze1477You know what? I have never played on one of those! Will check out how much they go for.
There are people that make multiplayer hacks for single player games, and people that hack the graphics and levels. Would be fun to play online. Also Kaze's talk about making his own Mario 64 engine is very interesting.
Players gravitate to fun games more than expensive , patronising playable movies….
Utterly shocking development , thank god for those investment experts or no one would know this
e33 is a playable movie but a lot of people like it.
Wait are you saying gamers want to 'play'games? Has anyone told EA ...... no no they havent )
RPG becoming action witcher-like games but 100% linear without any choices 🤮
Well, someone has to tell the boomer investors somehow, it's not like they are on social media. They are busy enjoying themselves, and reading the occasional investor info to be info to know what to invest in.
@JesiAsh Its an RPG ... coool how many ways can I complete this quest ... 1 ..... Uhuh
I remember saying this years ago and it’s here!
Vampire survivors and Balatro broke Ubisoft!
Yasuke and his they/them friends broke Ubisoft
Ubisoft showed that every AAA studio should have some experimental games they fund in case there could be some cool games in there, rather than just fire people and make them create huge hits.
No one is stealing players, its capitalism. Players go where they can have a good experience.
Nah, they enjoy the trash that's thrown at them.
Nothing to do with 'capitalism', greed is a strictly human phenomenon. If you want to blame any political system, its cronyism. It promotes greed and Machiavellian attitudes towards its subjects.
Big corporations believe they are entitled to customers
9:11 literally why i love Helldivers 2.
Game opens
Cutscene
Skip
Playing the game now
And it *feels* like a damn video game. Not some hyper "curated" experience, not like im "playing a movie" im actually *gaming* and AAA studios just *can't deliver*
Didn't even know 2xko came out.
That’s why games like A Link To The Past and FF6 still hold up with no cutscenes, and without great graphics, and in Link’s case, very little story.
No cutscenes?! How dare you forget about the Opera House.
Ganandork kipdnaped zelda. Link save zelda. Roll credits. And this formula just work, all the time.
@MarcPocus 30 seconds into the game, lightning crashing, im down in the sewers and my uncles dying shoved a sword and shield in my hands and said save the princessssss (gurgles on blood and dies)
12 year old me locked the F in.
My biggest gripe about the direction of the game industry over the past 15 years has been with other gamers tbh. There are so many people who have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on garbage like Clash of Clans over the years. When fake games like that become major cash cows, despite having no gameplay, that completely changes the design philosophy of the entire industry.
Why did people have to be so weak to fall for that nonsense?
THIS 🙏🏻
If people dodnt buy all this shit and had higher standards they would have been forced or at least motivated to create better stuff & keep evolving & trying but no... now were stuck in snail tempo while they try to make as much money as possible from the most midtier shi they can somewhat profitably put out 😢
A fool and his money are soon parted.
Exactly and pay to win and having to buy chars in an F2P game it's all mid tier trash even if there's a gem of a game there somewhere.
It separates the ones who chase money with those fake games and the real dev who seek gamers enjoyment
@AlexLsky-c5s Glad there are some people out here who see eye to eye with me on this. I assumed I was going to get bashed for my comment lol.
On the topic of tutorials, Gen 3/4/5 games _did_ have them, but they were integrated in to gameplay so you didn't even notice. For example, look at Megaman X on the SNES. You push "game start" and immediately have full control of your character and can do whatever you want, but the intro stage teaches you everything you need to know about playing the game (I guess besides dashing, but that's a power-up you get later, so understandable). It throws in some bottomless pits which introduces you to the "pit = death" mechanic, but they are forgiving and very easy to get over unlike later in the game. After the helicopters crash and destroy the bridge, you are forced to learn how to scale walls to continue with the level. The intro stage has many unique enemies that deal reduced damage from stages later, which means you can still die when you run out of HP, but again, it's not as punishing as the rest of the game, etc.
I was born in the dark, the orginal megaman on NES, I didn’t see the light of a Super Nintendo until I was nearly a man and beaten mega man’s 1-5. 😂😂 (also this is meming Bane speach from Batman)
I loved my childhood (except Battletoads. Damn that game).
This was one of the best levels broken down by egoraptors sequalitis series that really encompasses how good games back then did tutorials.
@EchoDoctrine I grew up with the NES ones, but I figured X would be a better example to use.
Megaman included paper instruction manual.
@DrewPicklesTheDark X was great. I loved growing up with those games.
7:15 True. However, indie games still manage to give out updates years after release because people still buy the games and the cost of development is in different universes compared to AAA. Take Stardew Valley, a game that came out about 10 years ago now. CA said he was 100% done with the game when update 1.6 launched, but he couldn't resist and now update 1.7 is in the works. A game that costs $10 and people play for thousands of hours.
29:17 Not being able to skip cut scenes should be a crime lol
Indie brings back the passion. AAA just looks for the next gimmick to milk gamers.
True. Also, what wa sthe last actually succesful Gimmnick?
@intothewildtogobirdwatching probably AI driven NPC’s and IP crossovers I am seeing a lot more frequently.
The thing is, story and gameplay can coexist together in harmony, good engaging story, even Hollywood style story can also have engaging gameplay.
That's what indie games also have gotten right, and were also good during PlayStation 2 / 3 and 360 days, at the same time, story and gameplay had not been put aside for "the message" for the magical modern audience.
I've been playing Balatro and FFX lately. Haven't even considered a triple-A game since Elden Ring.
"Won't somebody please think of the shareholders?"
F the shareholders....
no
I don’t think AAA even thinks of the shareholders like at least half of corporate spending in marketing is about gaslighting your shareholders about your own games success. They want to placate them and make them think everything is going well but they don’t want to actually tell them anything useful.
The reason why nothing is really happening is because there are no good games right now. a few banger indie games and maybe 1 AAA good game is simply not enough for one year. until i find a game i can play for at least half a year without getting bored, im gonna keep swapping games to whatever has players.
Corporate and Private Equity have parasitized the Games Industry and it's finally starting to die from the excess load. Maybe it'll be like the crash 50 years ago, maybe it won't
No, the industry is just contracting back to normal size. The Panda Demec supercharged it, increasing its size by like 30% almost overnight. Companies held onto that growth without trimming down for far too long because slimming down is far harder than growing. (bigger offices, firing employees has tons of pushback and bad PR, investors don't like seeing shrinkage, etc). So we got to the current rapture. It was inevitable. The industry was never gonna stay at the boosted Panda Demec status.
Private equity buying up indie studios is just going to lead to the same type BS games full of microtransactions and HR committee artstyles
The wide net thing is so true, they do that with movies as well and it makes it so bland
Wish there was a way to save World of Warcraft.
It's gone bro. Just enjoy what's left in Classic.
Just play Classic up to the iteration you find fun. We have what we have. Good memories.
