  • a common fault with sony camcorders. the "mode" switch gets dirty, the cpu cant figure out where the tape transport mechanism is. the result is that the mechanism goes past its stop and gets jammed. i clean the mode switch with cleaner(very small amount),then i connect external power (4.5 dcv -according to the service manual)to the load/unload motor to move transport back to a average position, and then cycle the load mechanism several times to help clean the mode switch.
i have seen many youtubes on using a battery to move the transport mechanism to a average position but none addressed what caused the problem in the 1st place. hope this helps.

Thanks for showing where to apply contact cleaner... I use a syringe to apply few drops over mode gear and it worked just fine! 😀

Hey. I know this video was made far too long ago for you to respond to comments but you never know. I have a Sony DCR-HC52 Camcorder (MiniVD) The tape holder will not close whatsoever, even when turned on, I push it shut but te springs push it back open and it doesn’t hold. Neither will the tape holder go back down, so I cant close the camera all the way, I’ve tried the DW-40, but I don’t think I’d the lubrication that’s needed, the gears just won’t move at all, everything else on the camera works perfectly. Except for the tape holder going back down into the camera, which means I can’t record or takes photos, so I basically can’t use the camcorder at all. Any other solutions?

I used compressed air followed by a quick shot of WD40 and my tape loader started working again.
