During Renaissance times: Those painters, and scientists think they are the bees knees. Refusing our traditions and our proper values. How vain they must be carving statues of themselves and clashing with our Kings and Queens. Society has gone down the drain!
Getting mad at kids *receiving* participation awards is bizarre. No one, myself included, ever felt anything other than embarrassment or apathy when receiving a trophy for participating in something.
Seriously, participation trophies were not for the kids, they were to keep the parents livibg vicariously through them flipping their shit when their kid didn't win. No kid actually wants one.
Very true! I am a gen Z but I use neither of these platforms so I never see any content “millennials x gen Z”. Ok, there is also the point that I am Brazilian, where these nominations don’t serve very well and we don’t care about it as much rs
@@whatthehellisthis Maybe on Facebook but on Tiktok and Twitter it is mostly abusive teens who feign mental illness for attention and use it as an excuse to bully people. When you call them out on their bullying they always play victim and say something like "stop harassing a minor". These same people will dox you and post all your information online for not liking a popular artist like Taylor Swift or Billie Eilish or BTS. Twitter is a huge dumpster.
Older gen Z and younger millennials are like the forgotten middle child. People seem to think all zoomers are teenagers and all millennials are pushing 40. But the oldest of zoomers and the youngest of millennials are both in their mid twenties. They might as well be their own generation.
This, completely. I'm 28, and I resent being described as a middle-aged digital immigrant! Like come on, I still have my hair and I've been using computers since I was about 6 😂
imagine being more concerned about the jeans someone wears instead of working together as the 2 most educated and progressive generations we’ve ever saw.
I think it is stupid considering the fact that there is no generation better then the other. We are all growing up in a pretty much fucked up society😁😳😥😭
I’m a young millennial with a gen X parent who was starting middle school during the financial crisis. I’m in limbo 😂 I identify more with Gen Z in this video
I'm a 28 year old millennial with 2-job-working boomer parents who grew up in a different country, and this portrayal of generations is nothing like what people are in my culture.
@@thelittlerawker Peoples just gotta stop worrying about labels, what we are, where we fit in or linking what friends like. Like what you like, who you like, do what you want to do, only allow yourself to be influenced by things that You like, work hard and be happy. -Gen X’er 😎 😝 ✌️
For real though! I mean yeah, American trends do fly over and we get more vegan restaurants and other fashion for example, but that whole narrative of the lazy millennial is just not there? Maybe it's because people did get jobs and houses lol (though in big cities it is harder to find a house). The only thing that is the same is the spoiled stereotype. But that's because of the way of raising the kids aka like princes and princesses. Still, a lot of people get over that I feel like? If anything, I feel like the biggest difference lies in social activism and caring about the environment here. But of course, they are both there in all the groups, just more in gen z I noticed.
As a millennial I just want to stop getting shit from all sides. It’s been constant ever since we were teens. I just want to live out my barely-scraping-by adulthood in peace, and wish the same for future generations.
We act entitled because we are tired of fighting against the current so we let go and wait. having a great adulthood is hard enough without good paying jobs, debts and rentals that don't take half of your paycheck.
TRUST ME, I’m literally not a war with anyone. I’m over here trying to pay for healthcare and car insurance, while looking for a house. I don’t have time to be worried about my aesthetic and how to perfect performative wokeness. Child please. 🤣
100% My girlfriend & I are both 27, and happened to find a decent house in Los Angeles (where we both grew up) and to see the droves of social media young’ns in the city talking about their gripes with millennials remind me more of that kid who baselessly talked shit in high school than it does any thoroughly considered criticism.
@@dantu5377 Well I guess that depends on which end of the millennial scale end. It’s not like somebody born in 1981 will have much in common with somebody born in 1991 which was mentioned in the video.
Are we really not getting along, though? Like, jokes about Harry Potter aren't actual disagreement (hell, most millennials I know who even care about the HP franchise feel, at best, conflicted about it in the wake of she-who-shall-not-be-named going full TERF), I feel like in any context where there are a lot of millennials and gen z talking, we agree much, much more often than not. It's weird, I see so much talk about how "Millennials vs Gen Z are fighting!" but I almost never see any actual fighting.
I know. I've been seeing every teen girl in my city wearing them and all I can think is, the 90s are back. I won't lie though, I did miss the baggy jeans look so I still do think it's cute.
Not to hate but I went to the mall and saw these middle school kids. They boys all had their hair parted in the middle. I thought I had stepped in a time machine and landed back to 1995.
Sorry, but we dominate youth culture now and are much fewer in numbers than Millennials. The sun has set on the salty 80 million plus Millennials. I know.., coping with your mid life crisis is hard, when you have little show for it 🔥. Unlike our Gen X parents, that had similar problems to you guys. Get based, and “glow” up!
I'm pushing 40. The other day I noticed my outfit, and laughed to my husband, "I look like an artistic middle-aged woman who drinks red wine." He responded, "well, you are." When I protested that I wasn't middle-aged, he asked, "how old do you expect to live?" Honestly, would have been fine had I died immediately.
@@chiara7413 Of course. And middle age is a relative concept. If millennials were born between 1981 - 1996, only the very first of our generation are starting to reach their 40s which, as we've learnt from Gen X, are the new 20s... So we're still young, y'all!
@@JazidContreras hahah! Yeah i wouldn't say that 40's are the new 20's but I would definitely say that 30 is the new 25. 😄 But definetly gen X was the first generation who did not really wanted to grow up.
Same. Plus we get the shit for both generations. Just a few years ago I was called an entitled millennial when I was in high school. Now that I’m in college they tell me I’m “glued to my screen” and that I should pick up a book.
Agreed, I started college a little bit older in life and one of my sociology professors told me I was smack dab in the middle of the two when I was like well that's fun
Greatest Generation: Spent their childhood watching the economy collapse into extreme poverty, then got sent off to fight Nazis. Came back to a massive economic boom in manufacturing jobs. Learned the lesson that hard work and sacrifice solves everything. Baby Boomers: Born and raised in a world of economic prosperity, then watched the revelation of racism, political corruption, and an unjust war. Then grew up and realized that they could get rich by selling out their beliefs. Learned how to compromise by acting liberal, but thinking conservative. Generation X: Born and raised in a world on the brink of nuclear annihilation. Never expected to survive long enough to use adulting skills. Sat back, watched movies, played video games, watched MTV, went shopping, ate junk food. Threat of nuclear war suddenly disappeared, but now there's a hole in the ozone layer. Learned the lesson that life is just a bunch of bullshit, so fuck it all, and have a good time. Millennials: Born into a world obsessed with political correctness, with movies and TV leading a backlash, and then quickly saw the tide turn. Raised in an education system that promised absolutely everything handed to them on a platter as a reward for going to college. Ended up getting fucked by the student loan companies. Learned the lesson that you have to scream loudly if you want the world to give you what it owes you, and also the woke crowd was right all along. Zoomers: Born into a world divided over political issues, mostly dealing (for some reason) with sexuality and gender identities. Raised in a world where the cyber world has a far greater impact on your life than what happens in the meat world, not just socially, but financially. Learned the lesson that popularity is profitable and gender is an illusion. The Truth: Hard work, sacrifice, and a strong digital presence will help you reach your goals, but there are no guarantees, because of all the bullshit in the system. Take wokeness with a grain of salt. Compromise, but don't be a sellout. Enjoy some good movies and music. Don't eat too much junk food. Beware of money-lenders. Don't trust political parties. Don't let gender roles define you. Know what to do in the event of a nuclear attack. Get educated. Have a good time. And never miss an opportunity to kick a Nazi's ass.
@@ShawnRavenfire Yeah but you were kind of portraying that as positive. Not that they're lazy and immature, but that they're above giving a shit about societal expectations. Kind of like in a job interview when someone answers that their biggest weakness is that they're just SUCH a perfectionist!

You forgot the Silent Generation born between 1925 and 1944. The oldest of those fought in the last two or three years of the Second World War but the slightly younger and much younger ones fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars respectively. The Beatles are among the youngest of the Silent Generation. The Boomers came after the Silent Generation and since the Cold War started in 1945 and ended in 1989 they were raised when there threats of nuclear annihilation.
I have a friend who is Gen X and she got pissed that she was reclassified as a Millennial, like her actual identity was taken. I was like "Girl, no one is taking anything away from you. Calm down." Like, I used to be Gen Y (a..k.a. "Gen Why?"), but that's not wrapped up into part of my identity, so it's whatever.
And then we found out that those of us born between 1992-1998 are part of some subgroup called 'zennials'...Don't they know THIS IS RUINING MY BRANDING? "Cool, fun, zennial aunty"...just doesn't roll off the tongue. *sigh*
I'm an older Millennial and I don't really feel like there's a war. I don't actually care if Gen Z makes fun of our fashion choices or trends. Fashion choices and pop culture trends are always silly and ridiculous. I like Gen Z. They're smart and they're driven. I see in them a potential that I feel that I lack. Many of my policy positions are in support of Gen Z and those who will come after. I know I'm too old to benefit much from affordable higher education and reasonable wages upon which people can actually live, but I think Gen Z and the generations that come after deserve more than what the Millennials got. I don't want future generations to live in a constant state of perpetual toil and insecurity while the climate crisis looms large over their psyches and periodic financial catastrophes make stability seem like a dream. I want to help turn this ship around so that Gen Z has a better future. And when we Millennials finally do make it to positions of power, I hope I'll be able to send down a ladder -- complete with rungs. Or maybe even a hand. I don't want to do to Gen Z what the Boomers have done (and are still doing) to Millennials. So... to Gen Z, I say - you're right. Our fashion choices were a little weird. Far from having any beef with you, I've got your back.
You're acting like there is nothing wrong with Gen Z. It's our job to properly raise Gen Z, because whether people believe it or not, much of their generation was influenced by us. Forget about the Boomers, their time is done. I would say a few things about Gen X, but they are the guys that everyone has forgotten about and they're too old at this point to make any impact at all in regards to fashion or trends. We all overindulge and are obsessed with social media. My lesson to the Zoomers is don't believe everything you hear. Don't believe everything you're seeing. Don't trust anybody. These are life lessons that my parents instilled in me, and it's only right that the Zoomer kids that a portion of my generation is helping raise learn these lessons. Most of Gen Z is still kids. What we need to do is not repeat what the Boomers did to Millennials. Rather, we need to show them there is a bright future ahead of them if they put in the work and have the courage to overcome obstacles and barriers. Everybody looks at the stupid trends on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram and automatically blames Zoomers for all of it. That is not what we should be doing. If more Zoomers want to see a brighter future and a good life ahead of them, they need to learn to work for it and accept that not everything revolves around them. Many of my peers and those of us who are pushing 40 years of age are not doing our jobs properly. We got saddled by the Boomers and as a result of their selfishness and greed we're starting to exhibit the same kind of behaviors on our children. Those children being the Zoomers and for some of us, Generation Alpha. If the Greatest Generation was able to turn America around from the Great Depression into a superpower that people looked up to, then so can the younger generations. But until we already prove that we're willing to take action and have our children put in the hard work and dedication, then things are going to continue to decline. That isn't just one generation. Everybody is to blame, everyone is held accountable in these trying times we're living in.
I honestly thought our generations were friends. We have a similar sense of humor and we both are sick and tired of the old guard continually being jerks to us to dumb reasons.
Most boomers don’t even know how to use TikTok, better yet know what a “Gen z” even is. You guys think these old people are plotting some diabolical plan or something
I think we're just harmlessly making fun of each other as friends usually do. Right? Especially because most millennials don't take things seriously and are the first ones to make fun of themselves

Yeah, I know '93 puts me squarely with Millenials, but both my siblings are younger, and most of my peers at work are a few years younger as well, so, aside from certain random childhood memories, I definitely relate to Gen-Z more
@Jack in the box millennials invented memes. We hit puberty before smart phones graced the hallways of every school, and by the time we graduated half the white girls were already self diagnosed with anxiety and depression. We made anime cool, and we are the first generation to still watch cartoons and Disney content well into our adulthood. Superhero movies became huge because of our demographic, being a gamer was no longer lame. Yes we have our entitlement and overly optimistic political correctness but … In hindsight we will be a memorable generation because of the internet, we are it’s pioneer. Zoomers are simply our first students and will continue the path we started. If you never had a MySpace top 8 then you are not one of us lmaoo
I was born in 1992 but I still don’t fully feel like a millennial. Maybe that’s because I am the youngest of 6 of my siblings who are all born between the early to late 80s.
Kids born in 92-94 are like dead center millennial which is why they feel almost no difference from older gen z. I meet gen z people who are like 25 all the time and we're not that different at all and I'm 28.
I feel like depending on how they were raised, 92-99 are more Millennial or more Gen Z. I personally feel like a total Gen Z, because most of my cousins were born in the late 90s to 2012, so I was doing "kid stuff" until I was starting college in 2015.
I'm a millenial. Yall kinda remind me of Gen Z now in terms of attire. The stereotype was that Gen X didnt care about anything (except the environment) but that's the furthest thing from the truth. Now Gen Z's caring is a more publicized for the world to see.
I am a pretty old millennial. I would argue Gen x wasn't forgotten, they disappeared they went silent. Why hasn't there been a Gen x president?!?!?!?! It may be possible for us to have only one or two Gen x presidents. Actually, the Gen x president was Trump. It's the only demographic he carried in the last election.
As a millennial in her mid 30s, I'm too old to care about this. I'll dress how I want, do my hair and makeup how I want and eat how I want. I've had people my entire life telling me who I have to be and how I should look. I'm not doing that anymore. I'm especially not going to let a bunch of kids on a social media platform I don't even bother with dictate what I wear and think. I hated trends when I was their age then, and I hate following trends now, especially since I'm seeing the crap that was in back then coming back. This so-called war is everywhere online now, and it's annoying. There's more important things to worry about than how I'm parting my hair.
I’m a Gen Z and I agree that this kind of thing is ridiculous. One day, our generation will be given the same treatment of being mocked by the younger generations, and we’ll hate it like all the previous generations did. It’s an endless cycle.
@@jackthorton10 I don’t know about that. It’s easy to think that things will be different, but keep in mind that this will be decades into the future. People change a lot in that time. Moreover, our place in society will have changed as well. What happens when young people do things we don’t like? What happens when they disrespect us and hurl insults at us that we don’t agree with? What happens when the world changes in ways we aren’t used to? Keep in mind that we will be the old people then, not the young people. Every generation tends to see their own generation as better than the others. However, if they carry this notion into adulthood and old age, then they will continue to view their generation as the best. This can make compromising and acknowledging the young people’s complaints hard, because the old generations will often become defensive, and many will still believe their views make the most sense, and the young people are just being foolish and arrogant. The only way of trying to prevent the same thing from happening to us is to stay aware of this cycle and not think we are the exception.

As a young millennial, this whole “war” going on with millennials and gen z is some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen and completely pointless lol. The media (especially sites like buzzfeed) has really pushed this idea of millennials vs. gen z, and both generations are falling for it. Also, I hope both generations realize they are more alike than they are different and will/have unfortunately suffer the same consequences in life when it comes to money, jobs, getting house due to the boomers fucking everything up for the newer generations to come.
I mean millennials couldn’t grow up because the economy was cratered and the economy has been cratered again with Covid so Gen Zs he’s not gonna fare too well. Did past generations this close in age distinguish and label themselves like this?
i would argue it wasn't even boomers that fucked it up, it was the wealthy and corporations perpetuating capitalist systems. as a millennial i'd rather stand by working class boomers than millennial billionaire CEOs.
Exactly! We are all young people and we need to realize who the real enemy is. The fashion choices people made in 2006 vs 2021 really aren’t the most pressing issues is this fucked up world 🤔
There is always a "war" between generations. It's natural to be protective of your childhood because it is a precious time for most people. When gen z gets older, the generation after them will make fun of them too. The only difference now is that there is social media and some people have no shame.
How can other people take your childhood away from you? It's such an odd thing for folks to be upset about. If anything ppl should be happy for the nostalgia & to see other ppl enjoy what you loved.

As a high school teacher...the parents of gen Z kids are not even close to laid back. Teachers now call them lawnmower parents because they clear every possible obstacle out of the way of the student. It really is detrimental to a kid's development. It also makes it so much more difficult to build positive relationships because the parents go in assuming that teachers are villains.
Honestly I feel like parenting like this is in every generation but just takes on different forms. Parents are crazy when it comes to their kids which I guess is normal. I'm speaking as someone with no kids.
Cusper who aligns more as Millennial, 2000, the way I see it is you guys are the biggest allies against the boomers, and we gotta rise up against them.
I was born in 1985 and I'm considered to be generation Y, and my mom was born in 1965, which was considered to be generation X but now I see her more as a boomer since she now has more in common with the elderly, being in poor health at the age of whatever. 56. But I'll be 36 on the 23rd of June, like 9 days from now and people can hardly believe I'm older than 30 because of how I look, talk, and act. I'm just not as old as most people my age. However, I live in my job as a cross country big rig truck driver, and I am a Marine Corps veteran who has worked since the age of 12. So I think when they call millennials lazy, they're talking more about suburban people.
Furthermore, when I saw a video made by some hick millennial about gen z slang, it was mostly hip hop slang that I've used since the '90s and has just become more mainstream to gen z cuz I guess they look up to people like me who retain their youth and value having adventures more than owning a house and a new car.
I agree with you Akanksha M. It sucks so much considering how positive Millenials have tried to be. A lot of us thought Gen X might’ve been jaded. No they were not. Now no one’s more depressed than us since we have a huge Goliath ahead of us: Are parents and older generations are still alive and well and won’t die soon. Nor likely to leave inheritances since for the most part most Boomers are spendrifts. Oh and many of us have to be their caretakers or pressured into doing so despite Boomers having contributed to a lot of toxic households that left their own skids uninspired to have their own families or marriages. We can’t afford property unless we’re extremely lucky, come from wealth, well connected, or all of the above. And for the most part we have to live to work rather than the other way around. I think Zillenials are trying to do what Millenials tried to do in the late 00s and early 2010s: Give illusion that we’re having fun and enjoying life and possibility when in reality we’re all having a terrible time if we’re younger than 50. I feel like this won’t end until a good chunk of Boomers start dying off and thus loosening up the social climate I think. Sounds awful but it makes sense if you think about it considering they outnumber everyone younger to about 2.5 to 1 and hold most of the wealth and property.
@@anamarte7547 It won't end until the Boomers do die off. In my mind they are holding us back. I'm just tired of all the depression, anxiety, guilt and autism spasm attacks Millennials like to inflict on others and on themselves, but it's the cold truth. I'm in my mid 30s, and I've already seen the worst of my generation. My 37 year old cousin had to move back in with his dad for a while because he couldn't hold on to his house. He does work on installing doors for a living, and while he enjoys his work he's not getting the money he deserves. The Boomers took advantage of a booming economy decades ago, and left us younger folk fending for the scraps left on the table. The Zoomers are already repeating what we did a decade ago. And they're falling in the same traps that we did. We should be looking forward to positive change and crafting a better future for future generations to reside in. But until drastic change happens, I think things will continue to get worse. Joe Biden's ever declining approval rate as US President should be telling enough for most of us.
It depends on which social media website you look. You're more likely to find less polished content on apps like Reddit or TikTok than you will on Instagram.
I think this generational classification actively excludes the rest of the world where the collective conscious doesn't work like western first world countries. And then the exclusion effectively takes away the illusion of "universal inclusion" and "extended empathy".
Actually the generations started being like this culturally because of world wars. You know, the WORLD. So while other places aren't as talkative about the different generations, it did impact them. By your logic only the West was impacted by the war. That's certainly not true, and quite frankly insulting to the many non Western countries who put soldiers into the war and lost their own people, who then in turn had baby boomers.
@@cmg8376 Even if the "World" wars impacted the whole world because of colonization the collective consciousness from generation to generation still differs in west and the east because of the same colonization. Also idk how you reached to the "insult" part by my statement.

I'm a millennial. I'm tired of being dragged by older people since we were teens. And then having traumatic events happening that fundamentally disrupted how we live our lives: 911, columbine, endless wars, etc. Then knowing how fucked we are with debts from college. And getting shitty jobs with lesser paycheck than we expected. Then finding a place to live in that doesn't eat up our salaries. And expected to raise a family with all these shit on our shoulders. It's too much. We were raised with high expectations but the world exploded by the time we reach adulthood and we just can't cope with the world we were told and the world we see with our eyes.
On Twitter and Tiktok most people don't care about social issues. They just want validation. On Twitter there is a huge amount of 'minors' (they state in their bio) who preach about BLM and the lgbtq+ community but if you disagree with them on anything, like music, they will be quick to use racist and homophobic slurs. There is also a large amount of people who pretend to have an illness or to be part of the lgbtq+ community because they want an identity. There are even people who got caught out pretending to be black because it is unpopular to be white and hetero on twitter so people make up things to fit in. Honestly, Twitter and Tiktok are insane.

I think it’s also important to think about how generational divides are different in different parts of the world. Most generational stereotyping is based on the USA (which is understandable, the US is a media culture), but growing up in a different country also changes that gap.
Meanwhile, Gen X is over here in our black Maybelline eyeliner, listening to The Cure, secure that no one cares about us at all, oh well, whatever, never mind.
i literally just googled what "gen" I'm in cause this shit didn't exist until marketing needed more identifyers. this has never been part of my identity.
It’s so weird because I’m a young millennial, right on the border of millennial/gen-z and we have basically everything in common so I don’t get the “war”. like so many said, it’s just for lame tik tok content. for the most part, we’re all fighting for progressive movements and a better future in general, so these people making a war of 2 generations filled of amazing intelligent/educated/empathetic people is honestly just so harmful to working together for a better future and planet.
There is no war. And you don't get it because it's something boomers made up. Listen to the voice of the narrator, you think thats a gen y or z? Hell no.
Everything is cyclical. I’m Gen X. I was a 90s teen. I remember 70s style making a comeback... bell bottoms and saddle shoes, prairie dresses with floral prints. We swore we were the first to do it and you couldn’t tell us sh*t. I remember my aunt looking at my outfit of bell bottoms and chunky Steve Madden shoes and asking “what the f*ck is going on?” 😆 She swore up and down that she would never wear that stuff again because she grew up with it and hated it the first time around. At the time I didn’t understand her ire. Now being an adult and watching “the youngins” call yoga pants, flared leggings and listening to them sh*t on a universally flattering Jean style (depending on the rise) did trigger me. Then I had to take a a step back. I had to laugh. It will always be this way. I remember watching old footage of teens in the 60s shading old people for being out of touch and the old people not understanding the “flower child” and “free love” trend and calling “The Doors” devil music. It is what it is. Eventually the next Generation after Y will shade them just as hard and they will (temporarily) get in their feelings just as every generation before them. 🤷🏾♀️
Exactly. Your thoughts and feelings change. Thoes very same flower child people grew up and wasn't that anymore. The economy has always stunk and then changed. There was gas shortages back in the 70's, high inflation for Regan years, I remember the parents complaining about the same stuff as now. It just goes round and round
Have you actually seen the arguments tho. It seems like millennials are trying way to hard making raps and stuff and gen z responds with like fake crying. It just seems like we’re teenagers so it’s kinda the millennials who are being immature. Also most of the fights start because millennials get offended about what gen z likes and dislikes.
@DragonSen as a 26 year millennial I find TikTok how do you youngsters say it “cringe”... most “millennials” don’t care for tiktok. And this so-called “war”...well to put it simply we are too busy raising toddlers and young kids, growing our careers, dealing with the crippling reality that this is a good as it gets, while battling our REAL enemies the boomers...to care about some imaginary war. We both have a shared value of not “conforming” on what distinguishes a person based on how they look or act.
Nah I’m Gen Z and cringing soooo hard. Especially since much of it is just debating about fashion and honestly? So many of us still wear skinny jeans and side part.
Honestly, the whole “millennials raised by boomers who had financial security” thing is a very white middle-class American thing. As a younger millennial, I identify with zoomers a lot more.
Yeeaaah...like a true Millennial you're thinking you're a lot more special and different than you are! I'm an older Millennial who was raised by white middle-class Boomers and the notion of financial security was shattered for us long ago! Did we have it as kids? Sure. However, we graduated college into the worst recession since the 1930s! The memories of the world our parents raised us in are very distant at this point! And, really, it's not so much that that world no longer exists but that we've found out along with the younger generations that it was always an illusion, we were just a different age at the time.
@@outsick6828 literally no. Gen Z started a new trend of middle parts and straight-legged jeans and Millenials took it personally and acted like gen z was coming for their throats. We literally didn't care about y'all until this happened.
I love LOVE love these videos and The Take for their thorough work. I truly do not mean to be a troll, but New Girl is not a portrayal of millennials. They were around 30 when the 2008 recession hit, making them Gen X-ers who, in an episode, made fun of millennial teens. I also really appreciate this video as I often get onto both sides about seeing differences as opposition between the generations and fostering a similar relationship that has been established between boomers and millennials. We are so much more alike than we think. There is also a problem with Millenial ending with 95 because those who establish the generational gaps could not have accounted for the digital age. Most kids born between 95 and 99 experienced an entire childhood without the digital age intervening and did not see a total immersion unit their later high school years. This makes them somewhere in the middle and being denied by both groups.
...what are you talking about? By the late 90s you were weird af if you didn't have a computer somewhere in the house. You think people in 99 experienced an entire childhood without the digital age....What planet are you on?? Even people born in the 80s can't say that unless they lived in some 3rd world country. FB was made and extremely popular in the mid 2000s ffs, like what are you talking about lady?
@@cmg8376 Thanks for missing the point. Having a computer does not mean you were affected cognitively by the digital age or that it was "the digital age" as defined by researched. I appreciate the feedback tho! Nice comment!
I’ve been parting my hair down the middle for so long my hair started to thin at my part. Now I’m giving my hair a break by giving myself side parts 🥲 I also still use “😂” I wonder if zoomers would prefer we go back to using “XD” instead
That tik tok where the girl said no one looks better with their hair parted down the side...? As a woman with a big nose, my side part looks too good! I part my hair wherever it wants to go that day. I’m 35 and I love my gen Z friends. I don’t hang out with them a lot but when I see them we usually relate so well, so this “war” makes no sense. Just social media jokes not meant to be taken seriously. Wear your skinny jeans, sister!
Relax everyone, millenials and gen z are just marketing terms anyways. The whole thing is just an invention so that companies can sell to the new bright young things. It may also be a ploy to get the young to fight each other for scraps rather than look to older generations and ask " why are the basics of life so hard to get nowadays?"
I love laughing at the "war" but could never buy into it because my kid sister is on the cusp and our relationship keeps me in touch. I would never want to compete with her, I want her to thrive, when I see here facing my same struggles I want to support her, and her energy is an amazing resource since age is starting to slow me down. We are stronger together.
I mean Friends and HIMYM were also about adulting and struggling. It’s been like this since getting married right out of school stopped being the norm. Besides, being a middle-class millennial isn’t the same as being a working-class millennial and it varies greatly from country to the next.
That's true. I don't know why only millennials get picked on for it. It seems like it actually started with boomers, or gen xers at the very latest. You could also add Gilmore Girls to the mix, which features an early gen x mom with a teenage millennial daughter. I seriously doubt that every generation before millennials knew exactly what they were doing as adults and were prefect.
@@mynameisreallycool1 🙌 also we have redefined the measure of adulthood. It’s solely about getting married, buying a house and having kids. It’s not one monolithic adulthood.
"You deserve paid work!" "I can't *get* paid work!" she rebutted, exhasperated. "I just graduated from Cornell with a business degree." Her friend punctuated this statement with a knowing flourish, atesting the obviousness of this statement. "That's the worst Ivy."
@@cecee3480 No, I think they were right to say Millennials were raised by boomers. This is especially true for older millennials. I mean part of the generation war against boomers and millennials had the parent/child dynamic. I mean we weren't coming for Gen X. But yeah, the further you get into the 90's the more Gen X you get. I'm 27 raised by BoomXers. Also it was the Gen Z that were calling their parents (Gen X) Karens. It just makes more sense on a cultural/societal level to say we had boomer parents because our upbringing was largely shaped by the boomers, even if your parents weren't boomers themselves.
I honestly really admire the new generation. There are lots of smart, resilient, creative and resourceful teens and young adults. You're doing great sweetie.
We 'stole' trends from the 70's in the early 2000's, we called peddle pushers capris and bell bottoms flares. We wore low rise pants in 2002 like Janice Joplin did, and called them hip huggers. I fail to see the problem.
as an older gen z kid i feel like both millennials and zoomers are just. doing their best existing in a society that is wrong? and coping in different ways? and yeah, some tiktoks are not funny anymore because this so called war was just a joke and skme people turned it into a toxic competition but yeah, i feel like we're trying to achieve the same thing
My teacher during quarantine: other generations were called to go to war, your generation is called to lie on the couch. Also my teacher: had a real high school and college graduation, went to parties, enjoyed their youth
I've honestly never seen the millennial v gen z thing other than some kids on tiktok who think their older siblings are lame or something similar. It's not at all comparable to a real generation war like millennial v boomers
This just seems like labored TikTok humor. (That being said, I'm 34 and a middle part in one's hair screams early 2000s to me and therefore just looks tired and old-fashioned.)
To be honest, I think The Take is taking this trend too seriously. Most of the videos from these "wars" mostly just talk about skinny jeans and side/middle parts. I don't think it's supposed to be that deep.
I need to add this thought to the picture, as the millenial, I feel a little more compassionate towards the Gen Z guys because we went through the times that we did. I've been there Covid is the third time the rug was taken from under my feet, I get the struggle. I find it easier to relate to the Zoomer then the Boomer.
As a young millenial, I didn't even know there was a war going on between the millenials and the Z's, but okay. We all got fucked over the same way, lol. We get each other. 💀Kudos to you Gen Z kids, we see you.💖✊
@@ILiketoSayYeehaw Honestly you guys are the only ones who seem to, boomers and gen x have hated us relentlessly before we even got out of highschool. At least you guys aren't like that. I'm a 24yo Gen Z, and I love that I'm right in between generations, I was able to see clearly the difference of these two. I grew up with this: 16:42 which is so real, and I feel that even though Gen Z is really making a difference on all this sexism problems (among others), Millenials were the ones who really started it, basically Millenials walked so Gen Z could run. This "war" is more like a fun joke than a real fight, both generations actually really love and learn from each other. I wear mom jeans and yoga pants, I use the laughing and crying emoji, I'm an activist, I still have facebook, I used to watch movies on DVD, I post on tiktok, I'm the best in my house in technology, I love wine (hate coffe)... I'm basically a mix of Gen Y and Gen Z, and I love it!!!
no dude, sexism and racism have been problems that have slowly been being tackled for a very long time. Women 100 years ago paved the way for people in the 60's who helped pave way for gen y and z. I'm very grateful to all the people who went through BS and made the world a way better place for me to be raised in, even if it still was far from perfect.
As a millenial, I actually like Gen Z more than the older generations. They are more open and liberal, more accepting of social differences. I love how inclusive they are.
Can't relate. Everything the older generations said about millennials applies more to them, and their fixation with insulting us when they have hoards of their own problems is annoying.
I love Gen Z. I'm 29 and life has been such a grind that I am exhausted. I will happily give them and their youthful energy the torch of fighting for social change. I'm stressed about graduate school, student debt, saving for retirement, not being able to own a home, and whether I will have my life in place enough to have a kid before my eggs shrivel up and wither away. Being a millennial is so, so bleak. 2 major economic catastrophes in the last 12 years? I can't. I am tired. Gen Z is our only hope at this point. Or aliens.
So grateful to be gen x. Once you hit your 40s you really stop giving shit about what anyone else thinks. Just wear whatever you want, drink whatever you want and generally try and be kind. Not hard.
Generation X felt this way before they hit their 30s. A lot of your music artists and bands expressed this in their songs they made back in the 90s and early 2000s.
I am a millennial and I can say, I saved money, worked during school, and still ended up in debt. However, I am doing better than people the same age as me. Also, I grew up poor so I am doing okay then.
I was born in 1998 and I actually think that gen z and millenials really have so much in common like we both will inherit a world more scrambled than eggs on a satanic easter morning but we both value our escapism and we both are pushing for diversity and equality. I say let's love each other and work together to make this world better/more liberated for the gen Alpha babies so they can smile and experience the success , happiness ,and compassion that we couldn't i say let's bust our asses to craft the keys to a sunnier kingdom for our sakes and theirs.
@raincheck for free Millennials are the spearhead of victim culture. Specifically, I'm talking about the urban, college-educated millennials in their 30s, who are now entering the managerial class, wreaking havoc with their newly acquired institutional power. I pray that zoomers will rediscover the importance of individual liberty and stop society from its descent to authoritarianism. Looks like the older zoomers are gone but maybe the younger ones will wake up by the time they enter adulthood.
My parents are gen x hippies asf they are super hands off with my siblings and I. I'm 22 and they have said they'll only intervene in my life if I get out of control but that hasn't happened. They just let me do whatever I want, and for the most part and have faith I can succeed.

Me, a millennial: I don't have Tiktok, GenZ hating us is news to me (😂 X100000000)
I always thought the misusing the laughing/cry face was the mark of a boomer because they can't see well enough to know what emoji they are actually using.
I hope that there’s more proof that Zoomers and Millennials aren’t that different. I mostly see it through my brother and I; he’s a Millennial *30* and I’m a Zoomer *19 approaching 20*, and honestly..we have a good relationship. Granted I was terrified of him when I was younger and I still kind of am, we’ve bonded a lot over the past few years through shared hobbies, shows, and now through him guiding me through college. He’s really one of the few people in my family I feel okay with just being myself cuz he doesn’t really show a lot whether he’s proud or disappointed. Could be a good example that Gen Z and Millennials can get along.
Yooo this war is kinda all hype tbh... I’m born in 1993 and my parents are gen-x, I’ve been using social media since I was 11, ... And im deffo not reaching middle age ffs 😭... the oldest millennials are closer in age to my parents then me 🙃 think us born from 1992-1998 need our our own sub-group!
I sometimes hear „Generation Y“. Spoken like „why“ - in between, always questioning how life should be, what to do with life and why they should follow the old patterns. I mostly identify with that term. Saw millennials fall out of the expectations but also are to old for the unconsciousness of the Z.
True... my mom has a lot of Millennial cousins (born 1983 to 1989) and they have always seemed like so much older than I am, and in a different "world", despite being 9-15 years older than me. I relate better with people born 2000-2010 than with Millennials.
I’m pretty sure that this “war” is only between people who have too much free time so they have to make up their own conflicts. As someone in Gen Z I have a lot of respect for millennials.
@Séverine Rosalia M. Agreed. Gen Z learned a lot from seeing millennials grow up and seeing how you guys were treated while entering the work force, becoming adults, the societal pressures placed upon you, etc. We saw that a lot of changes have to be made. I don’t necessarily agree with everything my generation is fighting for, but I’m proud nonetheless and thankful for millennials.
Age has nothing do with using tik toks . So many gen z or millennials use it! Stereotyping is just foolish. Literally any age can like baggy jeans, skinny jeans or be on the internet all day. Or thrifting. Im 25 and I dont care about tik toks or the clubs. While other 25 olds love it
@@inescastellano7960 I am a teacher in my early twenties so I am basically teaching my own generation and I am all for inclusion of everyone. Shouldn't all teachers be that way? Isn't "political correctness" exactly about that?
I feel like a lot of the differences between Millennials and Gen Z are kind of forced, it seems to me that we've got much, much more in common than not. Like, the part where you describe Gen Z (and by implication, not Millennials) as growing up online and being constantly attacked for being too PC... like, I'm sure that applies to a lot of Zoomers and I'm not trying to take that away from you, but that also describes me and most millennials I know. Same with the thing about Gen Z being wary of credit cards, I read the same think thinkpieces about millennials years ago, it's only in the last couple years that we've seen news stories about "Millennials Credit Card Use On the Rise," which is almost certainly a factor of (belatedly) getting some of the financial stability that earlier generations got years earlier. I bet you anything that, when Gen Z gets old enough to start getting married in significant numbers, you'll get the same nonsense we did about Killing the Wedding Industry just because you don't want to spend the cost of a decent used car on a single day. If that happens and you want solidarity, let us know, we'll be here.
it can;t be more forced than a reality TV show "millenials vs. Gen X". Where a literal puzzle answer was "there's no participation trophy". I kept on laughing how they can make a sequel "Millenialls vs. Gen Z" - "there's no filters here!"
The paranoia of millennial parents has made millennials slightly paranoid about growing up, and 9/11, the dot-com bubble and the great recession have made that paranoia 10x worst. Which is why nostalgia in media is so popular.
IDK, I remember it only as a child in late 90's and then... I really never had that need as the things I have usually last too long for modern standards. So sometimes I feel like I could open thrift store myself.
I dont think ur an in between exactly ur just an OG Gen Z I have the same birth year as u and so did XXXTENTACION and Juice world I think. Some of what going on may be a bit confusing because we are the oldest of the Gen Z generation and the war is primarily between the younger members of our generation and the older millenials. Those cuspers in our gen were born 96-97 but 98-99 were the OG's .
Once theres an "us" theres a "them" and grouping yourselves together can mean hating on others in different groups. It doesn't have to be that way but people just see others who aren't similar to themselves as an "other." Its almost tradition now to hate people who aren't in your generation but I also think its stupid to diss a whole generation for things that were truly beyond their control because if a whole generation carries certain commanalities then its because of the period they were born in and the events that happened, which really isn't their choice.
Late 90s when you're stuck between both influences of millennials and gen z. I'm a '97 and I remember playing with my parent's flip phone to having my first phone in the 2010s. So I had the millennials texting habbits. Google in 1998 and RUclips was founded in 2005, and I grew up as a child with the rise of those platforms as well as Instagram. I like the curated feed that stem from millennials with topics of escapism of gen z aesthetics. I also have the values of inclusion and acceptence and tolerance for the future of our generation. So, it's weird for me seeing this war. Maybe it's more prominent for the younger gen z than me who already belongs to the oldest category of them. We are inspired and shaped from past generations.

We would be friends
I’m a Gen Z and I agree that this kind of thing is ridiculous. One day, our generation will be given the same treatment of being mocked by the younger generations, and we’ll hate it like all the previous generations did. It’s an endless cycle.
But it will be different, this time, we, the ones with half a brain of common sense, will come to a compromise,
@@jackthorton10 I don’t know about that.

I think it’s also important to think about how generational divides are different in different parts of the world. Most generational stereotyping is based on the USA (which is understandable, the US is a media culture), but growing up in a different country also changes that gap.

Now we will have the pandemic boom babies too. Covid generation?
Millenials are too old to care about this feud and Gen Z are too young to realise how cringy this whole thing is
Have you actually seen the arguments tho. It seems like millennials are trying way to hard making raps and stuff and gen z responds with like fake crying. It just seems like we’re teenagers so it’s kinda the millennials who are being immature. Also most of the fights start because millennials get offended about what gen z likes and dislikes.
