    Absolutely brilliant! Now all I have to do is work out how to get the extension from the master socket [downstairs] to my office [upstairs]!! A genuine heartfelt thank you for showing this.

    thanks for your reply, getting better speeds now, what i done was moved the router next to my phone socket in my hall, replaced the flat cable that connects to phone socket to router with cat6 cable, 18 inches in length, and then a 10mtr cats6 cable from router to desktop pc in bedroom , works a treat, speed gone from 3 to 14 on normal broadband... thanks again for help

    many thanks,BT asked me £130+£75=£205 to connect its master in toilet to the next extension socket in the house. I challenged their sale staff for undisclosed hidden cost on order, but with no success. they said regardless of place they have connected the line to the property.
    I listened to your advice and follow your step by step instruction. it took me 30 minutes and I have done it!! thanks you saved me from this unfair charge.
    Again Many thanks,

    Top job!
    Wish every tutorial on RUclips was like this... Calm, concise, detailed, clear instructions with a clear view of what's happening.
    Helped me out amazingly as the instructions on my extension had brown, yellow, green, blue like a power plug even though the cable had the usual orange, orange/white, blue, blue/white.
    Thanks for the help.
    Ps... Don't buy an extension pack from Antsig!
    Bought from Homebase in the UK , as explained above the instructions were worse than useless, quality was poor, did the job but would advise anyone against buying it.

    Thanks for the video. It really helped with getting the connectors from the master socket cabled up to the connectors in the extension socket. I had looked at various websites to try and find this info but they were either incomplete or conflicted with the info on other sites.After watching your video, I had connected the cable up in a couple of minutes, faceplates back on and up and running - Thank you :)

    Thanks very much great help. The orange no body use it any more so only two wiring and you can use any color you want but all the rest of the house socket must be follow this two color, if you used blue in pin number 2 and blue/white in pin 5 follow this number in the other sockets.

    depending on the house you shouldn't have to worry, if you just using it to take it up a floor you will not notice the difference in speed via ethernet (unless moving from wireless to ethernet then you will most likely see a huge bump in performance.

I want to get rid of it without calling BT. Will my phone line still work if I cut the extension wire? I have a separate broadband cable extension that connected to the master with just blue wire. The extension cable is connected like you showed in the video with blue and orange. Many thanks.

    I just bought a new phone for my house. It's one of those old fashioned looking phones with a round dialler but instead of holes there are push button numbers.
    When I got it home I discovered that the wall plug is too small for the BT wall socket (it's the same plug that fits into the phone). On examination I see that the 'new phone' with the small plugs on each end only appears to have two live metal terminals on each plug end. Unlike the existing phone lead which has a small plug on the phone end and the larger one on the wall plug end, both have four live metal connections on each end. Any ideas what I need to do?

    • @philbarlow4903
      @philbarlow4903 9 лет назад

      No you shouldn't have had to have checked ! BT are supposed to be the bee's knees and this obviously wasn't the case in this instance ! You should claim some sort of compensation , say a months free line rental or more. Who fixed the fault ? Was it the same engineer ? And how long did they take to correct the error that they had made ? Inconveniencing you and your family who could not contact you ! Especially after your wifes receent visit to the hospital ! Now that I think about that particular event , it wouldnt be inappropriate to expect 12 months free service !
      Hoping you take this further,
      Yours,
      Phil Barlow.

    Hi wonder if you could tell me the best way ?? My phone box is in my hall and i have a 10 mtr rj11 cable connected to it going to my router then to my pc in my bedroom. Would it be better to have the router next to my phone box in my hall and connect with a cat6 10 mtr cable to my bedroom , I have been told its always better to have the router as near to the phone box as possible, is this true...thanks..

    • @TheChipmunk2008
      @TheChipmunk2008 9 лет назад +1

      Ron Jones Sorry, don't work for these guys, but yes, that 10m RJ11 cable is probably seriously restricting your speed and line stability. The 10M cat 6 would be ideal to replace it. The RJ11 cable isn't twisted pair and will pick up inteference :)

    • @TheChipmunk2008
      @TheChipmunk2008 9 лет назад +1

      Ron Jones Sorry, one more thing, make sure you replace that RJ11 cable with a shorter one, just moving the router closer but keeping the long cable will be worse! :)

Will the broadband (Fibre optic) speed be effected by being connected to the extension socket which then relays back to the main? Like slightly higher latency, ping, speed ect?

    My friend just moved in the box he is told is live but BT want £90 to send an engineer to look at it and change an £8 box.
    Looking at your video has no master box only one that looks identical to your slave box and I have checked everywhere there is no master?
    He wired it up -
    1 Green White
    2 White Orange
    3 Blue White
    4 White Blue
    5 Orange White
    6 White Green
    When he picks it up he can't here anything but when I call it rings and at his end it rings too, but when he answers he hears nothing and I still hear his phone tone ringing until I hang up

    Thanks for your vid. Thumbs-up. Can I ask a question please?
    BT changed my master socket last month when I changed to fibre broadband, speeds are fine at ~38Mbps. But, when I removed the microfilters around the house, the extensions wouldn't ring any more although they work fine otherwise. I checked in the master socket and the BT installer only connected 2 wires to the extensions, so I presume the ring wire is disconnected. Is it safe for me to try just connecting the ring wire in the master socket, and any ideas why the BT installer left it disconnected?
    I could just leave the microfilters in place, as these also seem to contain the ring capacitor, but I wanted a tidy-up!

    • @yousefnoori
      @yousefnoori 9 лет назад

      +ridefast0 You can call BT and ask them, Fibre is very sensitive, so even if you're working with a BT socket, you better have someone from BT.

    Poorly produced. I can't see some of the actions. Sound quality poor. Poor advice on cutting back the sheathing - why not use the string to cut back the sheath instead of using a sharp blade and risk cutting the wires or a finger. How about some explanation of what the wires are before you start? You know your stuff but cannot TEACH. See what you have done, criticise the recording and do another one. Ask friends to tell you what is poor about it and then do another again.
