    Brian, thank you for all your work. I truly appreciate your videos that very so often, gives great info on ST and new ways to do things. It's like having a "SmartThings Watch Dog" It's appreciated!!
    I've recently found, that the virtual switches created in ST, both Yakov's Virtual Things Edge driver and the V'edge driver you are using in the video, created unrealiable results in Alexa using them as a trigger. Strangest thing that the virtual devices are actually being found and triggered on/off in Alexa when turned on/off in ST, but the Alexa routines, used with the virtual device in Alexa, are not always triggered. Sometimes they do, sometimes they do not. It's been working perfectly until recently. So I had to use IFTTT together with "Voice Monkey" that creates triggers for Alexa as an alternative solution. I know this is not ideal, since it's cloud based, but it is realiable and works every single time. I eventually found this to be an Alexa problem and it seems to be raleted to swithes with the ability to toggle. Virtual switches with no toggle function, are working fine. Maybe this is just me, But I used an entire day to troubleshoot, to no avail.
    You asked for edge drivers in your video, that makes a difference to ST: For me, just last weekend while troubleshooting the above problem, I found this: The "Web Requestor Multi v.1.2" which is also available from TAustin (clever guy): This makes any LAN device which is able to receive web requests via HTTP to get triggered. I've been using virtual buttons in ST/Alexa to control Yamaha Musccast speakers in my home for a few years now, until last week, when I found this. With this driver and the comprehensive Yamaha API documentation I've beeen able to create local triggers to all my speakers, using the Web requestor driver which in total can hold 50 request in a single shortcut. Turn on/off, volume up/down, change input, mute/unmute it all works instantly and It is truly effective with MusicCast. Just remember of course to reserve that IP-address of your speakers in your DHCP scope ;-) Maybe this will inspire to another video or give anyone reading this inspiration to do other things with the "Web Requestor".
    I'm still looking for a way to trigger my Xiaomi Standing fans, without using Alexa. Home Assistant seems to have a clue here: github.com/syssi/xiaomi_fan but I have not had the time to look into it yet. It would be really "cool" to make it work. -Sorry bad joke, i'll find my way out.

      Very interesting there with the Web Requestor. I think that's one you need his Edgebridge for right? I was thinking of making a "advanced Edge Drivers" type of video where we'd go through this kinda stuff but that takes a lot of work on my part :)

      The obvious one would be what @SuneKuntz mentions here, Mariano's Child Temperature and Humidity, with its thermostat for heating and AC. Also it gives a barometer on the Aqara sensor, which Mariano added a pressure change rate to recently.
      By Mariano also the Virtual Calendar and the Random Mirror Switch.
      For those into Tasmota there's an great integration driver.
      While talking of cheap buttons there's IKEA 2 way press/hold (4 functions) button at $8 that runs with the Beta channel Zigbee Button driver.

    I have beet transitioning all my devices over to Edge drivers on SmartThings and have had - mostly - positive results.
    A copule of GLEDOPTO LED devices didn't play well but Mariano was exceptionally helpful on the SmartThings community and explained what was going wrong (mixture of outdated driver and misunderstanding of function on my part).
    I was rather annoyed (well, maybe that's too strong a word) that SmartThings ddin't have a default Virtual Device as an Edge driver. I have my TV plugged in through a ZEN25 outlet that monitors power draw. I can set a virtual device to turn on and off based on the power draw from the telly (it's an OLED so I can say it's turned off even if it's going through a panel refresh after using it). I have another virtual switch tripped by other sensors (light levels and time) to determine whether my living roon lights need to be on or not. Using that virtual switch, I can combine the telly virtual switch to determine which lights to turn on and off to illuminate the room but not cause screen glare.
    I am grateful that private developers created such high quality virtual alternates, but the whole enrolling in and selecting of drivers is not something average users will do and is a significant reason not to use SmartThings just now. This is a huge opportunity for Google, Amazon and Apple (if they could ever get their stuff working even half as well).
    My main annoyance is that my old OSRAM 73743 Zigbee button is not properly supported like it was with an old DTH. I don't really want to buy a new device but it seems there will not be a compatible driver written for that device.
    I'd quite like to see you review the Tuya Presence Sensor combined with SmartThings (and other platforms), as it is actually available to buy in Canada whereas the Aqara has to be imported and the EP1 is not linked in your notes about this video.

    • @AutomateYourLife

      Mariano is so good Alex! Good to hear he took care of you. As for the other stuff, I happen to agree with you on a lot of points. Old products we'll want to see come forward, and in general we should be able to say "Add Device" and then have the interface tell us "We found these Drivers that teach your device how to work. They have X Features". But that's UI/Experience vs programming ;)
      The Tuya Presence sensor has been so good. It's stayed connected and it's been bulletproof during automations. I doubt I'll do a full review on it, but I am building to a comparison review on Presence Sensors!

      2 things it could be:
      Location: maybe edge drivers aren't allowed where you are yet. Samsung could be blocking.
      Forwarding links are blocked by something on your system. Those are bit ly links so they are shorter (I was out of characters in the description), and then they are forwarded to the right location/url. So maybe check and see if your browser or some other software is blocking that

    I used the vEdge-Amazon integration to get repeating voice notifications when my garage door is open, on all Alexa devices, as I can’t see my garage door easily from inside the house. Also did the guard mode synchronization.

      I'd be interested in hearing how you did the repeating thing!

    • @motioncompensation1544
      @motioncompensation1544 Год назад

      @@AutomateYourLife
      I'll try to explain it here. Maybe this one is worth a video on its own?
      To get Alexa to repeatedly remind you of an open garage door, you’ll need SmartThings, at least one Echo device, a sensor on the garage door that has been properly set up, and Alexa and SmartThings must already be linked. You’ll also need the vEdge virtual device creator, as explained in this video.
      You'll need to create two vEdge virtual devices:
      1) A virtual switch, named Garage Door Reminder. I'll refer to this switch as switch 1).
      2) A momentary combo button, named Say Garage Door Open. Set it up not to return to its previous state when it's used as a switch. It should only do that when pressed momentarily. I'll refer to this button as button 2).
      Set up Alexa to send an announcement to your Echo devices whenever button 2) is pressed using an Alexa routine. And test this, whenever you momentarily press button 2), you should get an announcement. I think Amazon has a cool down period for announcements, so don't expect multiple notifications within a minute or two.
      Test whether Alexa can turn off switch 1). Manually turn it on, then say: Alexa, turn off the garage door reminder. Switch 1) should turn off.
      You'll appreciate this when the garage needs to stay open for a while and the reminders become annoying.
      Next, you'll need to create three routines:
      1) Start garage door reminder
      2) Repeat garage door reminder
      3) Stop garage door reminder
      Routine 1) should trigger when the garage door opens. Add preconditions to your liking, mine only works when the location mode is Home.
      The actions are: turn on switch 1) and momentarily press button 2) you created earlier.
      Routine 2) should trigger when button 2) has been off for X minutes and should have as a precondition that switch 1) is on. X will determine the waiting time between notifications. The action should be to momentarily press button 2). This routine causes the notifications to repeat every X minutes, until switch 1) is turned off. Switch 1) can be turned off manually in the SmartThings app, or by shouting at Alexa, or by closing the garage door, which will trigger routine 3) and stop the reminders.
      Routine 3) must trigger when the garage door is closed. The action is to switch off switch 1).
      That's it!

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  Год назад

      Thanks!
      It sounds like you have a little interference going on. Have you tried some other locations for the sensors to see if this clears it up? Maybe even try it not physically located on the door, because it might be the door itself that's causing this issue.
      I've sometimes located the door sensors at the bottom or the middle of doors too and seen different performance connectivity wise. So try a few spots.
      Also, if there's a repeater being used (which you can tell through the Browser API shown in this video), then maybe try a different repeater being used. Those can sometimes be problematic.

    Great video. Newbie with Smart things. When I do the add for an Aqara motion sensor it adds a Vdev with no driver options in the eclipses. What do I need to remove (I no doubt installed something daft at some point) to get it to add. When I check the hub I only have the driver listed that you have in the video so getting frustrated with it. Haha.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  Год назад

      Hey Philip, VDev is actually I think a Virtual Device Creator tool that's also available. I think maybe you installed that another time and so your hub is scanning and bringing that in. I think maybe you're not getting it to actually add or show up. Sometimes Aqara can be a pain to get paired with the hub, so get closer to the hub (anything within 10-15 feet is definitely good) and try a few times.
      For every aqara device, check how to fully reset that model and make sure it's on the list of devices in that Aqara link!
      Aqara's always tough to get to pair. Stay with it!

    I'd rather use a presence sensor which doesn't require spending a significant portion of my lifespan adding the device via an edge driver. Can't I just buy a battery-powered presence sensor that can be added within the Samsung ST app and then adjust a few settings and spend the rest of the day at the beach?

    • @AutomateYourLife

      Presence sensors are different than motion, and you will not find one on battery.
