His phrasing and harmony know no equal. Together, these techniques, in his hands, are exquisite and quite perfect. To me, he is THE great American guitarist.
I don't know any guitarist better than Reed. He had perfect taste as well. Willie Nelson wasn't quite the virtuoso Reed is, but he can play great and he has impeccable taste as well. Nelson's playing on the album Spirit is jaw-dropping.
Been a huge JR fan for ... well, just about ever, I guess. Was fortunate enough to see him in concert in Battle Creek MI, great seats, and there was a young couple that got up and clog danced during one of his songs. He was delighted! Heard this song first by the man that wrote it, Steve Goodman, and have heard it by many people since, but this is one of the best versions ever. RIP, Jerry, give Elvis a hug and get down to some serious jams!
If there was never a Jerry Reed, you'd a had to INVENT one! In my humble opinion the most complete and certainly the most under-rated artist in the history of Country Music. Singer, song-writer, musician extra-ordinaire...Entertainer, actor and PERSONALITY! The more time goes the by the more precious and priceless his music becomes. And his influence is STILL felt to this day. There's only handful of current pickers that can really cop his licks (although not with same ease and finesse) but nobody could ever come up with as many sensational licks... He was a truly a musical genius. I sure do love Jerry Reed and hope to meet him in heaven... Maybe playing some "Stringed instruments" with King David. ~Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: Make a loud noise and rejoice and sing praise.~ (Psalm 98:4) KJB
I freaking LOVE you tube!!! I never thought I'd eber see this again. When I first saw it, I happened to have one of those cassette recorders and taped it, I palyed that tape until it broke, rewinding this song over and over. Best cover of this song EVER. Thanks You Tube and draysrule
Billy Phillips showed me Jerry Reed's amazing Travis picking when I was ten. It sounded like three guitars in unison! I'm thirty three now, and recently reacquainted with Jerry Reed's picking and singing. The wind has been knocked out of me. Here's to Daddy Claxton, may his name forever stand... And always be remembered in the courts throughout the land. His earthly race is over, and the curtains 'round him fall... We'll take him home to victory on the Wabash Cannonball. I miss you Wild Man!
Videos like this put things into perspective, It doesn't matter how much you make, how many houses you own, how many causes you front. When it all comes down to it, all that matters is how you lived, how you live and how many people remember you and what they remember you for. In this case, the man matters more than the possessions. Jerry Reed was a great guy that was a good man and that's how we remember him. I remember you Jerry and the world is a better place for you being here.
Jerr'y best trick was hiding his musical genius behind his good-ole-boy facade, but every once in a while it would shine like this wonderful piece of simplicity. Just listen to the intro and the exit. Just too sweet for words. And, just like his hero, Chet, he loved to be surrounded by great musicians. Not an ounce of ego. Sure miss you, man.
What a pleasure, to hear again the great Reed. He was telented and inspired as nobody esle! Great among guitarists, and greatest among composers + guitarists + singers (no doubt for me).
I have been pickin on the guitar for better than 20 years, everytime I think I'm pretty good, I watch Jerry flawlessly plucking those strings and realize I need more work. I doubt I'll ever even get close. Watching him knocks me down a notch every time. What an amazing talent!
Damn , I miss this man so much. I got to meet him in person when he came to Seattle when Smokey and the Bandit was released. He was so sick with Bronchitis , but he managed to Sing 》 East Bound and Down. There will never be another one like him. May he rest in peace.
Wow. What a thrill for you to play with the great man, and thanks for posting. Jerry has to one of the greatest musicians and songwriters to ever come out of Nashville. Why is it that he was never a great recording success?
Jerry Reed . . . Awesome!! I completely associate this man with my childhood . . . he was in so many 70s movies and T.V. shows . . . what a voice! And what a guitar!
COUNTRY! and performed by a gentleman, no jumping up and down, no smoking pot on stage, no dancing. just a man and his guitar singing, no fake sound effects. I guess todays stars lack one little thing **TALLENT**!
I'm a funk and jazz fan, but Jerry Reed's gift was bigger than genre boundaries. What an incredible sense of rhythm on the guitar, what a fabulous singer. And such a brilliant actor and humble man that he'd almost have you believe he was just some guy playing a few songs. Almost.
Can I be the first to admit I came to this video via a Google search re Smokey and The Bandit. Love him in that film, but Jerry Reed is certainly more than an actor, his guitar playing is amazing and it was nice to find out a bit more about him.
I can’t believe how this got 1 million views Jerry was such an unappreciated singer and guitarist I’m so happy 1 million people were able to see Jerry and his full talent.
Jerry was one of the greatest storytellers in music. He always chose songs that narrated a story or had a deeper meaning, but he really was a fantastic guitar-player. I really think of him as a more aggressive Chet Atkins, though comparing them is silly. We only lost Jerry last year, so I hope more people tune in and enjoy his work. One in a trillion, and always remembered.
I knew Jerry personally and he knew I was a die hard Jerry fan. He called me that " long tall drink of water" and I can still see him picking a " sideways saturday night hot lick " and looking over at me and saying " I'm good huh, Slim?" The world lost a most unique and very talented artist in Jerry Hubbard. RIP " Alabama Wild Man,,,, Snowman" I miss ya buddy.
I agree. I've been into Jerry Reed for years through Chet Atkins and all of these videos show what an amazingly talented guitar player, singer and performer he was.
I just keep on rediscovering this incredible guy,and thanks Tza Cow! I believe that's Tom Bresh's guitar he probably borrowed. He talked about it on a video him and Jerry made and how the cutaway was cut. They are on here.
Everytime you see Jerry whether here or on the movies he was on he always seemed to be a fun loving happy person. This came through in his music too. You can tell it in this performance here. He is in no hurry just letting it work itself out. This is for sure my favorite version of this song, closely followed by the Highwaymen's version
Yea I have it on a best of Jerry Reed CD. There's also an amazing version of The Devil Went Down to Georgia on it. He plays some great jazz licks on it. Pickers in the UK will miss him. Best wishes Max
Where did these days go ??? Just listen to the "Crap" they give us today. Now I now what Hell is like !! NO Auto Tune, NO Strobe lights and special effects. Just PURE Talent. O'h, what I wouldn't give to go back to those times. Air was clean and Sex was dirty !! >
It saddens me when people refer to Mr. Reed as anything but one of the top guitar pickers that's "ever walked the planet." It saddens me even more that he is gone. RIP Jerry, you left this world a better place simply cause you were in it. Pick it son!
What a huge talent this man was...it's rare. He left us too soon, only his early seventies. I hope he's still pickin' somewhere.
I've been Reed-pilled!
What an often overlooked talented guitarist and songwriter! Certainly legendary!!
Steve Goodman wrote this song
shack109
And not a very good one. Even Jerry can't save this one.
shack109 nobody said he wrote this song, but he wrote others. I loved
Jerry.......
P
I'll be damned if I can figure out that statement. We all have our opinions
Been a huge JR fan for ... well, just about ever, I guess. RIP, Jerry, give Elvis a hug and get down to some serious jams!
Beautiful! Only Jerry could do it like that! Thanks so much.
RIP, Snowman You're my hero....

A very underrated singer who deserved more attention. RIP
Jerry had s lot of talent. I have a lot of his music. love him.
The more I see and hear Jerry Reed - the more I like. He was a gift and gifted. Miss ya dude.
Thanks to youtube, I have discovered Jerry like I never heard him before. Lots of soul in his music!
Sure miss you, man.
everything about this is top shelf - song, singer and... that playing
What a pleasure, to hear again the great Reed. He was telented and inspired as nobody esle! Great among guitarists, and greatest among composers + guitarists + singers (no doubt for me).
Absolute best "City of New Orleans" ever. Cheers!
Still watching and listening to Mr Read. Wonderful 👍
Jerry Reed is awesome. Great vocal and superb picking, as usual.
Thanks for posting the Georgia wild man at his best.
Jerry Reed was great. Funny and very talented. I miss him because he always gave me a laugh when I caught him on the TV. RIP Jerry. Miss Ya!
They don't come like Jerry anymore. They just don't. A true musician and a true performer. No frills, no bullshit, just pure talent.
Jerry Reed ~ the most underrated entertainer in showbusiness. RIP my friend, and thanks for the memories.
He’s one of the greatest guitarist of all time and too few people know it.
Listen to that thumb, God it gives me chills. JR the consumate thumbpicker. I love it, thanks for posting.

Superb. There are some great pickers out there but I always come back to Jerry Reed,
Damn , I miss this man so much. I got to meet him in person when he came to Seattle when Smokey and the Bandit was released. He was so sick with Bronchitis , but he managed to Sing 》 East Bound and Down. There will never be another one like him. May he rest in peace.

Reed is the influence in me getting myself a guitar tutor, his picking is just incredible ❤ My words were “teach me to be this good..” lol
Greatest version of this song in the history of human civilization. There will never be another Jerry and you better believe that.
COUNTRY! and performed by a gentleman, no jumping up and down, no smoking pot on stage, no dancing. just a man and his guitar singing, no fake sound effects. I guess todays stars lack one little thing **TALLENT**!
Jerry was one of my fave country singers growing up in the 1970s.
Can sit and listen to this song all day... Relaxing song.. Love you Jerry, Johnny and Waylon
What a shame I can only like this once!!!!
Elvis should have recorded this songwith Jerry invthe studio to record hit GUITAR MAN .. Thanks for SHARING THIS ONE RIP JR !!!!
this song is my earliest memory of music, my dad had alice's restaurant on vynil...i still put it on from time to time
I'm a funk and jazz fan, but Jerry Reed's gift was bigger than genre boundaries. What an incredible sense of rhythm on the guitar, what a fabulous singer. And such a brilliant actor and humble man that he'd almost have you believe he was just some guy playing a few songs. Almost.
what a great fella..dont make them like this anymore..
Indeed, I'm loving the change of lyrics here, good ol' Jerry. RIP
Truly on of the greatest ever. Love to watch him play. Thanks for sharing!
It's sadly true that there shall never be another. God bless you JR, snowman, and guitar man.
I'm a bloody metal fan by nature and habit. But nothing, NOTHING, compares to Jerry Reed!! Loved that guy and his music, wish we had more....
Love it and him!
Thanks!!
George Vreeland Hill
great version....you're FIRED!!!!!
I totally didn't even realize what song this was gonna be. I just clicked on it because of Jerry. This is awesome!
Best version I've heard
I'm truly glad to hear that, and I respect your opinion. I'll stick with Steve Goodman, but this is a good rendition.
I was watching this with an old monitor and it looks fantastic
A real guitar player. An authentic singer.
They don't come around like this man anymore.
Thanks to Guthrie for composing this.
Can I be the first to admit I came to this video via a Google search re Smokey and The Bandit. Love him in that film, but Jerry Reed is certainly more than an actor, his guitar playing is amazing and it was nice to find out a bit more about him.
Jerry did a great job here but lets not forget who wrote this song!
RIP Steve Goodman and Jerry Reed
When God made Jerry Reed, he broke the mold.
As much as I love him I feel so bad because I'm reminded that real talent is gone.
I love his melody in this song!
beautiful....no one can copy that!!!
I can’t believe how this got 1 million views Jerry was such an unappreciated singer and guitarist I’m so happy 1 million people were able to see Jerry and his full talent.
When people say they like all music accept country I throw on some Jerry Reed.Opinion change's.
The Lord broke the mold after He made Jerry Reed. A true original.
A phaser and a nylon guitar, only JR can make it sound like it belongs together. RIP Jerry, we all miss you. Still pickin' I'm sure.
wish we had a song like this four our country UK
Great version...
Awesome guitar playing/sound
Have to say this is the best "altered" version of goodman's epic song, this jerry rendition makes me smile, every time i hear it.
You could get a hundred great guitar players who could play jerrys songs but none of them would have his feel or touch. Great player.
My new favorite version of this great tune.
Man, that is the most natural guitarist I ever heard. Django crossed with Glen Campbell!
I wish there was a better recording of this but hey thank God for this recording. I erased all my Ralph Emory Nashville Now tapes.
l love Chet but Reed was multi talented and sometimes l want to put him at the top of the list. RIP Jerry and Chet.
Such an amazing talent. Always interpreted songs his own great way. Great singer and a picker in the Travis/ Atkins style.
Jerry is awsom...
I only new him as Snowman, but is incredible on guitar, soory i missed that about you...
AWSOME...
Damn, He's the best.....not only a guitar legend, a very good person..R.I.P. snowman

Few people can sing, play the guitar, and act like Jerry Reed.
I love this Song,very good
wow an amazing and talented man
Just love the chord sequence he does at:33,1:50 and repeats at the end. Soooo pretty.
Too good to be a big star. Really wonderful.
rip MR REED what a great musician and entertainer he was born to it
Everytime you see Jerry whether here or on the movies he was on he always seemed to be a fun loving happy person. This came through in his music too. You can tell it in this performance here. @CarliB7 One of the coolest damned concert stories I have ever heard!! Jerry Reed is the man!!

Soooooo good. Johnny Highland comes to mind currently..
This is absolutely beautiful. Jerry Reed was incredibly talented. Thanks so much for uploading this!
never knew he sang this. WHat a great singer and guitar player
The best version of this song ever.
Man, Jerry was a great entertainer! Best singer/player of all time as far as I'm concerned.
There's no man like the Snowman.
That's a big 10-4
I had no idea Jerry covered this song - he does it beautifully.
Not a better singer/songwriter/musician around. May he rest in peace. I found out today on the radio. I couldnt believe it.
