I'm Canadian, born and raised in Ontario , now live in Vancouver. I do miss the 4 seasons in Ontario and the 1000's of lakes and cottages. I never went clubbing in Ontario, ALWAYS house parties. We would drive to Montreal to party in clubs back in the day. Vancouver had a great club scene downtown, but now its all condos. As for clothes, its all fast fashion crap from China unfortunately. I lived in the UK, Barbados, Miami, and spend many months a year in Thailand. The food culture in the UK wasnt great, everything was deep fried and unhealthy, and everyone loved their booze. In Canada, we do like our space because we are surrounded by land, we enjoy the outdoors, getting dirty lol, skiing, hiking, skating etc...we were all raised to play outdoors regardless of the weather. We dont really have style here, its all about comfort, only because the weather is so unpredictable and clothing is super expensive, so we would rather spend our money on fun stuff (boats/trucks/campers/houses/vacations/exreme sports). Many of my friends from other Continents, such as the Middle East, Africa and Asia definitely take pride in what they wear but lack in their sense of adventure when it comes to outdoor activities. I remember my ex and I used to always clash, (he is middle Eastern) He would love going to coffee shops to hang out, and I would always want to go on a boat or jetski, something active and fun. Its all about the culture and climate we were raised in. Canada is definitely a chilled out, calmer, quieter place than most countries, dont come here for the fashion, come here for the love of nature, security, fresh air/water, health care, marijuana, no guns and the wildlife. Go to Banff or Jasper and you'll be amazed with all the cariboo and elk walking amongst the locals and tourists, the BEST!
People generally do not move to Canada for a better job or more money. It’s all about the lifestyle change. I know Aussie citizens and the working conditions are generally better in Australia than in Canada. The pay is a third higher and the healthcare system is better in Australia. They went to Canada because they wanted the lifestyle and environment that Canada has to offer, things they could not find in Australia or the UK they have citizenship. The cost of living in Australia is expensive - more expensive that some places in Ontario. Don’t think for a minute that it’s all about finances because it isn’t at all! If it is all about money, you are better off in the UK. Comparing the UK to Canada when it comes to shopping for groceries, nearly every service-related thing costs more in Canada for poorer quality. Canada could seem perennially 10-15 years behind the curve when compared to the UK in that regard. I think it depends on where you live in each country. UK has become more expensive since Brexit. For someone in a developing country moving to Canada could be more advantageous as you can move as a PR and will need just 3 years to apply for citizenship. You also do not to pay high fees to maintain your residence permit as you would in the UK. In the end, it depends on what you want, why you are moving and what makes you happy.
I laughed when you said 2% tax (vat) in the UK. Its actually 20% VAT on most items, clothes included. The difference is, VAT is already calculated and added at point of sale.
Thank you for sharing this! I 100% agree with the feeling of being “home”. My first time in Canada that’s exactly what I felt as well (and I feel the same way about the UK, it’s alright but I don’t see my life here long term). About taxes, I felt the same way. It’s psychological I feel though. I would rather have VAT included in the price that I see when I pick things up from the shelf. It’s quite high in the UK but at least it’s built within the price. Thank you for this!
The comparisons are based on perception. UK sales tax is 20% it probably feels like its less because it is factored in and not as transparent as US and Canada where it is paid separately
The UK has more diversity in terms of restaurants. Forget Canada when it comes to a variety of restaurants and African food. Lots of African food in the UK. I saw a whole street of Nigerian food stuffs I even thought I was in Africa when I visited the UK. The clothes in Europe are generally better in terms of quality. In Canada one wash and the cloth is faded.
It makes sense about the lack of African restaurants and foods available. Canada’s black population is only 3% black and that is mainly US and Canadian born blacks. There probably would not be a good market here for those services. Can’t argue about fashion here. I don’t think Canadians are big in general about trying to look fashionable. Clean clothes in good shape is more the norm. Teens of course want to keep up with their peers. It’s just not a big deal, we don’t judge people by what. they wear.
Canadian food is alot better . You have not been all over Canada. Canada has alot of fine restaurants. Yous lie too much. It makes me sick 😫. All yous do is run Canada 🇨🇦 down. As if your country is better.
Actually i feel there are more opportunities in the UK than in Canada. There is definitely more to do here in the UK as the economy is bigger and the UK also has more influence.
@@e-man5654 yes taxes are higher in Canada, but you have health care included in those taxes, which I would rather have than not. I couldnt imagine having to worry about saving money to go see a doctor, let alone if you were really sick, astonishing.
I been to both and uk is miles away a better country, u need to drive everywhere in canada to really enjoy it, nothing is close or convenient in canada as transportation is poor, uk is more convenient and better shopping/food and more better transportation
Of course you have to drive everywhere in Canada, we’re the second largest country in the world! You could drop the UK in our Hudson Bay and still have lots of room to spare!
As an FYI if you drive across Canada, non stop except for gas it will take approx. 106 hours. If you decide to stop for the occasional overnight rest, it will take you 3 weeks.
