Finding people who don't care if you die is so important.
I take people to TOA and if they die wardens p1, I don't get upset. The last guy I took died p1 because he panicked. Here's exactly how the exchange went in discord: "oh fuck I died. God I'm sorry man, I'm so shit"
Me: "nah dude it's cool, look now that you're dead you can focus on my character and I'll explain each part"
Then I made sure to explain each mechanic and spot to stand, hell, I even ate some mechanics to show how much they hit and how to avoid it.
Next KC, man only missed 3 prayers and didn't die.

Most of the guides seem to be designed for people who have experience with osrs bossing or PvMing already, but with all the new players (including me) there aren't many guides that break down the events in a way where it's considerable for someone who has never done a multi-phase fight (or whatever). You're exactly right, most of it could be better, in terms of guides, but also it seems like the people who MAKE the guides are those who have been playing osrs for so long they can't even imagine why someone would need explaining on the priority of prayers/food/switches.
So maybe that's where people like you come in. Maybe this could be an introduction for basic pvm strategies, or explanation of osrs mechanics in general (counting ticks, flicking)
It's been a long time since I listened to someone talk on youtube and got the impression that they actually cared about what they were talking about. Great video dude, I hope you make more!

Deadass Zulrah is the way to get into PVM for sure. It requires you to position, gear swap, and prayer swap, while also allowing for optimizations like Veng/Thralls spellbook swapping, etc. Its also just good money.
If I was gonna add anything, I'd say that people should not immediately go for the balls to the walls methods. If you're learning CG, prep tier 2 armor and actually have a shot at beating the fight. Maybe learn 7:0 at Bandos instead of immediately going for 9:0.

Got into PVM last year because a friend from work wanted me to join a pvm clan he had. My only account was a 50 atk 1 defence pure. I really hadn't done pvm before but had decent pking experience. My pking background made pvm very approachable, but learning it has been a blast except for Kree'arra. My friend took me to God Wars a couple times and then said "here's chambers of xeric." It was a massive spike in difficulty but peaked my interest as the olm fight gave me a similar feel to like what a good pvp fight has.
One of the things I would add in addition to Fkey usage is not playing in fullscreen with a massive screen resolution. I've met people who struggle at content and then will do a screenshare in discord and they are barely able to see their character when they zoom out to a normal level. This makes content so much harder for them than it normally should be. Your mouse accuracy has to be more precise to click on smaller monsters, you've got to move your mouse further to get from what tile you want to get on to change gear/prayers/special attack/etc. You don't have to play in fixed, but playing in smaller window resizable or less screen resolution full screen will get you much better click accuracy when you need it most.
Another thing I would add in getting into learning raids is minimizing your switches when learning. Every piece of gear you add to your setup is one less brew that you can take. Don't be taking boot/glove/helmet swaps when you're learning as staying alive in the raid will let you contribute far more damage than if you are dead. Also keeping your switches to a more manageable degree makes them feel less of a pain to do while getting used to them.

I think one of the worst parts about guides on bosses like Zulrah and raids and stuff is that they're way overcomplicated.
Every single Zulrah guide I've ever seen explains the rotations, tells you to keep track of them on a second monitor, use the plugin and so on and so forth. I could NOT for the life of me do Zulrah until I said fuck the rotations and just gave it a shot myself. Bit by bit I learned and started memorizing what's happening when at my own pace. Making sure to keep everything else in check instead of trying to pay attention to a million different rotation possibilities and switches and whatever.
Often times when you're good at a certain piece of content it's easy to forget that you're teaching people who aren't gonna be able to soak in 20 minutes of every possible technique at said content and be able to do it efficiently after. That results in the viewer, more often than not, trying to bite off more than they can chew and being screwed after. Pretty much just watch any kind of guide on CoX/ToB/Zulrah and other higher level pvm videos and you'll see exactly what I mean. I could find very, very few guides that give you the no-bullshit basics without overcomplicating it.
If you're struggling at PVM - don't watch long-winded guides and think you have to do absolutely exactly what they do. They're good for seeing example fights but that's about it. Look at the mechanics of said boss you're trying to learn and give it a spin yourself. Don't overcomplicate it and worry about details. Send it, if you die then you die, send it again, correct your mistakes and you'll see just how quickly a daunting piece of content becomes extremely simple in nature.

  • @MegaChickenfish
    @MegaChickenfish Год назад

I genuinely got an osrs quest cape and a rs3 max cape without knowing what a tick is. OSRS is so reliant on them to have any idea what you're doing. I still don't really know how to "build up" to the insanely complicated nature of raids like Tombs of Amascut. You literally go from quest bosses or bosses with maybe one mechanic to stuff like that and Zulrah? The jump is unbelievable. Zulrah alone literally requires you to know what the boss is doing *before it does it* and react accordingly like you're a freaking vampyre with mind reading powers.
It's not like I haven't PvMed before, but on RS3 they basically remove everything that you used to have to focus on (re-clicking the boss after every action, manually clicking the swapped prayers/food/potions on different tabs) via keybinds and replace that with other complexity. But then going back to that """"simpler"""" combat system I'm struggling with all that again because clearly there's some sort of muscle memory people get that allows people to do those ludicrous displays I see in the PvP videos where they perfectly time their individual actions to within a specific 0.6 second interval to swap 10 pieces of gear, activate a special attack, a different prayer, and do a handstand all at the exact same time to do like 150 damage.
RS3 bosses are structured much more like Vorkath: Attack, attack, attack, Telegraph, Special. Attack, attack, attack, Telegraph, Special, etc on whatever rhythm. I can *DO* that. But throw me at things like Zulrah or raids and I have no idea how they do it. I'm missing *something* and I don't know how to practice it.

Just as an aside (and this is super minor, especially given who this guide is aimed at its probably best you didn't mention this), but having a keybind for gear can be really nice for takeoffs (prims when ranging/maging, for example)
The attack styles "spec tab" is also useful for things like mage running olm with a shadow as you need to change your attack style, again not super important & is definitely not relevant to the intended audience of this
Another boss which is really nice for teaching you things is reg / CG. I've got a few friends who went from beginner pvm'ers to actually relitively high skill pvm'ers at CG. It teaches you a lot about survival in stressful situations, timing, pathing etc. Admittedly take this with a pinch of salt, CG wasn't out when I started as a pvm'er so YMMV

Hey Dude :) do you have Deutan Color Blindness by chance? if not you might have a slight Deutan Color Blindness.
"As long as you didnt just accidentaly said purple to Blue" But seeing Purple in Blue is a huge sign of a Deutan Color Blindness.
Many people life with it without knowing :D Also great Video .
    Greetings from Germany.

All and all great video, everyone hates those wdr's asshats that make learners feel bad for mistakes... Zulrah is great for prep for raids as long as you are bringing a gear swap. What I always recommend to people that want to get into raids is gauntlet/corrupted gauntlet: its good intensity, gets your clicks hot, hammers home the use of f keys, tick/att counting, and makes you work with what you got whether thats usable space (avoiding bad tiles) or with what you prepped (undergeared). Gauntlet is also great because it requires no upfront gear from you/no punishing death cost, and if you can efficiently complete cg, youll make a shit ton of gp. If you can do corrupted gauntlet you are ready for anything. I dig your honest love for runescape, if you want add me in game, ill teach you tob: Monkeh

I must be old or something I have my Fkeys set to the original default after you've come when they first came out and you couldn't remap them. Special attack on F5 inventory on F1.

I must admit I started with alchemist hydra which is easy tried zulrah then got wrecked getting better at it now average 3 kills a trip right now but I do mage only method and try to hide from the mage waves when possible. I suck at gear swapping but I never used f keys so this is helpful

Worst thing about PvM guides is they almost always have max gear on for everything... dude is doing Barrows in max while making a guide. lol

I'm shit with computers.. my f keys only work if I press shift first. Is it some setting on my computer? Kinda defeats the purpose of f keys and I can't figure it out

You can use the key remapping plugin to use keys 1-5 instead. There is a comment on this video where someone mentions it

I've never used f keys for any pvm but they do make tob better because you lose ticks clicking the pray tab. And the reason i never bothered to learn them is that my f1 broke and i didnt bother usin F2 and F3 xdd

Worthwhile advice, but I'm gonna be real: I've got 18 years of muscle memory for prayer swapping and gear swapping with clicks only, that's fighting me when I try to learn function keys and I revert to it in pressure situations. More comfortable doing stuff in situations where I need to be tick-perfect with what the hands remember.
Also, an alternative to toxic gaymer culture around raids and bossing. Solo. Solo everything. I don't want to fuck around with with nasal turbovirgins. Pretty much all of the post-OSRS content like this has zero real risk (no, losing points for the drop table isn't risk, dying and dropping all but your 3+1 on the ground in a non-instanced area with the old despawn timer is risk) so I'd rather just learn to do whatever I can solo when I can.

The games actually not huge.. it's a small amount of content with many layers of RNG wall requirements... Many things are needlessly complicated ... Mostly likely to inflate value artificially... Lots of time gated content too.. it's all just a bunch of artificial problems brought on the player in an effort to convince you to pay real money to eliminate these barrier's... Even than the RNG Mechanic's keeps you playing unless you wanna dish out serious bucks for gear... Plus you got all these RUclipsrs paid by Jagex to constantly bombard players with gold making guides... Profit guides.. don't fall into that trap.. just play the way you want.. if you try to get caught up in the rat race they'll drain every dollar you got
