If you were around when MTV first came on line back in the day, to me the pretenders were a very underrated band that was guilty of only bad timing. I can always watch you tube and rejoice at this time period that I thought was so special musically. There were several bands that will never get the credit they deserve for the impact they had on us in america. The Pretenders is one of the.
I played this to death when it first came out. Rediscovering it here today at 55, is like hearing it for the first time. Does anyone else feel adrenaline serge thru their whole body when they hear this? Imagine the "pollution" they call music we have to endure for years to get one hit like this. Music soothes the savage beast. If only we could keep that feeling we get when the song is playing AFTER it stops! I think thats probably why so many people use substances. They really want this feeling all the time. Who wouldnt?
I think maybe to get this feeling back takes discipline. Too many outside influences to steer us odff course. But what more is worth dedicating your life to than to be this charged up, and thris happy. Pleople would sense it whenever you walked into the grocery store or gas station and theyd feel it....all over you! So whether you visiualize your mornings being as beautiful as life casn get, or that you are communing or meditating with God....keep trying.
About the video...I dont know if its just british humor or what but its pretty awful. And yet Chrissy manages tio stand out without saying a word. She might have been a great actress if she explored that side of herself. There was something about her. And she liked older guys, thats for sure.
I was 7-8 when it came out and I remember it had been played in heavy rotation all over Europe, even in the 90s. In new millennium, all radios and tv stations have declared death to the old hits, like the music in this millennium was best.
AHA! - That moment when you find that song you remember from the gym 5 years ago but could never remember the lyrics or any way to actually search for it, but out of relentless determination for closure, you find it.
I heard this song at the intro to the movie "gung ho" and fell in love with this tune............so wonderfully funky guitar chords with strung with those beautiful keyboard/strings? overlay........ So sweet.......and the lyrics just color the whole mood so well.
OMG how I miss those 80's!!! She has/had that 80's sound that whener the song comes on, just automatically takes you back to the time. I got issues about getting older, which I deal with or try to, but listening to Chrissie and these songs, well its even harder, though I truly love it.
Same graphics as the 'Avengers' TV open. Billboard's #92 song of the '87 survey year. God bless you, player, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week!
heard the opening riff on the radio and got goosepimples...thanks chrissy...i know that many other memories are inside me , but blocked by this future orwellian world we knew was coming but could not prevent.1979 was no picnic but the people still loved each other!
Best cross-over ever! One of my favorite bands pays tribute to one of my all-time favorite TV shows! Continuing the tradition of strong female characters ...
this vid was the biz back in the day...... this song used to make me think of someone back then, & still makes me feel nostalgic & sad that it never worked out.
This song takes me back to innocent days in the 80s when we kids used to enjoy simple moments. I don't know if it's being adult, but life was much simpler and reduced to important things. Incredible how certain songs can make you feel
Absolute unpresidented and original musical genius. To think this is where music was in 70's-early 80's and to think the sorry state of repetitive, unimaginitive and frankly depressing state the industry is in at the moment, bands like this remind us how much hope there is in music. Truly spectacular group of people! ps, not some raving, in denial 50 year old. I'm 22.
I've become addicted to this song. Last week I spent hours and hours playing Don't Get Me Wrong on a jukebox in a darkened, dive bar in Tijuana. By the end of the night, even the non-English speaking Mexican locals fell in love with it. "Who can explain....?"
Patrick Macnee as John Steed, from my 2nd (after ALIAS) favorite show of all time: "The Avengers"!!! With Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel...Amazing..."Fighting crime with a wink"...and a bottle of bubbly...
this song not only has a beautiful melody, but wonderful lyrics as well ... 'don't get me wrong, if I split like light refracted,' 'I'm only off to wander, across a moonlit mile'
Same font of graphics as 'the Avengers' British TV series. The Pretenders hit #10 in Billboard, 12-27-86. God bless you, player, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week!
