Well, she got my attention. So much more exciting to watch than the 2018 first three places in the World Championships. Seems like better technique to me as well as choreography.
@RS I have learned to avoid comparing gymnasts who don't belong to the same "aeon". 14 years separate Irina's gymnastics from Dina's and Arina's. RG is a sport in motion, nothing ever stays the same. We all are entitled to our preferences and i must agree with you that this period of gymnastics was so much more exciting... It was the most extreme, radical code of points ever, and the inovation that Batyrshina and Kabaeva brought in relative to the body elements were a real revolution. I will forever miss this generation of gymnasts but i also believe that 10 years from now, we'll be saying just the same about the 2016-2020 top gymnasts. It's beautiful!
*Irina's artistry and her vigorous performance will never be forgotten* She remains as my favorite gymnast even after all this years. So happy to finally watch her with a good quality, thanks Olympic channel 💓
Yes, gymnasts later were better than her. Yes, Mamun had better railroads. Yes she was unexpressive. But my word, she was a star. Her athleticism and power made her the phenomenon she is today. She was one of the most hardworking gymnasts to ever train in Novogorsk, and to this day an inspiration to plenty of gymnasts. What a legend.
@Androniy Avdeev Well her technique was not overwhelming tbh. She always lands from her leaps still in her backbend, her footwork in her illusions is messy, which Rita never had a problem with, she has no big pivots like Sasha's or Lala's 7-turn frontscale, or the crazy speed of Yana's or Dina's propwork. What really stands out for her is her amazing energy and power. Much like Rita, she takes off in those leaps. She just doesn't get back to earth. Her power she concentrated so well in her core is her biggest feat, and in my opinion only Linoy is able to match it. She's one of those who jump 3 meters out of nothing as well. But Irina was working incredibly hard, even harder than Zhenya, which is quite frankly inhumane. So kudos to her for that.
I agree. What made Ira stand out was her power. Those leaps. I can't remember any Russian with similar strength and power. Maybe Rita was close, but not equal. Irina's technique was not flawless... Nor were her pivots. She was very, very unexpressive and somewhat robotic. Even in that sense she was the exact opposite of her rival Kabaeva, always a show girl and a crowd pleaser... Still... Tchachina will be Tchachina... The Russian fireball!
18 body elements? I thought they had to do 24 or 25 per routine? Nevertheless, gymnasts were still expressive and charismatic in this period, it's just that Tchachina wasn't one of them. Bessonova was expressive, Godunko was expressive, Simona was expressive, Inna was expressive, and Kabaeva was THE show girl. This is an olympic sport after all, athleticism matters more than artistry. And Irina was a star for her athleticism and strength. Sync with the music i must absolutely disagree, hers were some of the most "deaf" routines of that time, this one included. For example, from 1:04 to 1:24 what she does has absolutely 0 connection with the music. "Harem" was even worse. Her ribbon that year, though... The ribbon kinda looked like the music in movement
Shut up. If you actually were competent, you would know that the only doping drug of use in RG is help to loose weight, which she never had a problem with. Hence why this comment is unnecessary and not doing anything. So please don't comment in the first place.
@@dominicweber If you say the only reason rhythmic gymnasts used banned substances is to lose weight, why did she use banned substances in the first place if you state that she never had a problem with this? Don't get me wrong, she's amazing and I respect her, but she obviously doped. DOn't be so rude about it yourself.
@@castlewalnut4491 Because there is something called pressure. She was never on the edge of problems because of her weight, like Kabaeva was. She was more pulled in with the others by the national and governmental pressure. You can't blame her, and she really didn't deserve this scandal. But I don't like that this is the main comment someone has to make about this masterpiece.
What was your favorite Olympic performance to music? Let us know in the comments and we will add them to a future #MusicMonday!

An iconic routine I still watch over and over to this day. Gorgeous.

So graceful. So beautiful.
Experssive she need not be. She has much rarer qualities--aplomb, amplitude and charisma.

Мое мнение таково, что у чащиной самые красивые ноги и линия шеи - это самая физически удачная спортсменка из всех Ирины виннер.

how can one be expressive if you have to do 18 BD in 1 routine? this was the body combinations COP. even tchachina said it herself in one interview...
It was different CoP, you cannot compare 2004 and nowadays.
