Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault and Energy Minister Jonathan Wilkinson and their British Columbia counterparts, George Heyman and Josie Osborne, announce investments aimed at lowering home heating and cooling bills in the province.
The federal government is investing up to $103 million to provide grants for residents to convert oil and gas heating systems to high-efficiency electric heat pumps. The investments will also help fund home upgrades such as installing energy efficient windows and doors. The provincial government is providing up to $151 million. Jordan Owen, owner of RedBlue Heating and Refrigeration, also takes part in the news conference in Victoria.
Responding to questions from reporters, Ministers Guilbeault and Wilkinson comment on Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's assertion that the Impact Assessment Act remains unconstitutional even with the federal government's proposed amendments.
