Hi, our '81 Mirada looks almost identical to this. A little more patina though with 180K. I went down with dad to order it new in '81 and he gave me the car in '97. Same brown met. with tan vinyl top and interior. Cloth buckets, power everything, and AC of course. Ours also has the 10-spoke 15x7 Road Wheels (look great polished) 318 hp (Ha!) with the 360 heads, intake and Thermo-Quad. We ordered the sport suspension-(police spec.), which came with the firm-feel police steering box. It has 3-spoke "Tuff Wheel" tiller, 8-1/4" rear with sure grip diff and "performance" 2.94 gears. We ordered it w/o the bumper guards-just had the horizontal rub strip-looked cleaner and accentuated the width of the car. It's a great looking car that didn't have the power to match its looks with the methods they used to meet smog laws at the time. Still have plans to resto-mod it someday.

CMX models did not have that roof line, with the large windows in the sail panels. They were closed iff, and the roof sort of looked like a convertible with the top up. I own a 1981 CMX with the 318-4V.

They should have built a Dodge Midara RT in the 80s also to compete against the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and other GM vehicles of that era

I bought a 1980 Mirada off the show room floor. Had it for two and a half years, 318, four barrel. It handled and road nice, but spent more time getting warranty work done than it spent on the road, two transmissions burned out, and the complete rear end replaced because they couldn’t find out why it was vibrating. 6 months after I sold it, the transmission went again. The car was an incredible disappointment
for $11,400 1980’s dollars. To top it off, Dodge/Chrysler’s service department was not good to deal with, (anti consumer), thus I have sworn off Dodge Chrysler ever since. 2nd time burned by them. Should have taken the hint after the ‘78 Volari Road Runner.

Why didn't Dodge entered a Midara into NASCAR Winston cup series back in the 80s it would have compete against the GM and Ford products

Porbably because CHrysler put all their money into the K cars and minvans..

Because the aerodynamics sucked. At street speeds, it was fine, but at over 120MPH, there were stability issues. Richard Petty tried the car out, then moved to Pontiac.
