They should have D2 champs face D3 champs and winner faces D1 champ for an overall national champion. I guarantee there are people at the lower level who have D1 talent but couldn’t go for whatever reasons (financial, academics, etc)
Just do it the way it use to be let the division 2 champ join the tournament Adam's State had a division 1 national champion in late 60s nick Carillo wrestled hof football player curly Culp his Jr year and then won it his senior year.
they used to do it similar, where the d2 d3 champs wrestled in the d1 tourney, kenny mallory was a 5 time national champ as he won the d3 tournament 4 times AND the d1 tournament
I have always wondered how big the difference is in going from Division 3 to Division 2 ? Is this gap going from D2 or D3 as big as the one separating them from DI or are the differences minimal and random? Having been New England champion years ago in 1976 at 177#, I was too chicken to go to the nationals as a guy on my team who had been New England Champion 2X before me in '74 and '75 and who was a better wrestler did not survive the first day either time. My high school program at Nichols School in Buffalo was not very strong either, and in fact the sport was dropped, and while at Williams (congrats Peter Kane at making the finals at 157) the team was little more than a club. I could never navigate through all those scrambles I see today. I would have gotten stuck (pinned). I was so scared of going to the mat. Instead, I focused on takedowns and just letting the guy up and accumulating a 2 for 1 advantage. I guess I don't regret not having gone to the Nationals, it's just that I regret not having had better programs which would have given me more confidence.
Great job with this tournament! Great crowd and really good wrestling. Once upon a time D2 and D3 champions qualified to the big tournament. Carlton Haselrig from Pitt-Johnstown was a 4 time D2 champ and 2 time D1 champion!

Pretty cool when hertel faced the d2 157 returning champ at the nwca all star classic and hertel won a tight one!

My nephew Jared Stricker 174 lbs national champion!!
Exciting, I bet the family is thrilled!
Great
I hope he will be Olympic Champion in 2028
@cartoon4191 that would be something
More people here than at D2 championships
Tells you something
More schools in D3. About 330 in d1, 70 in D2, and 130 in d3
@@GarciaVideoProductions Any reason why D2 has so little?
@@GarciaVideoProductions there are only 77 D1 teams. your other numbers check out though
