- In this 1995 interview, famed neurologist and author Oliver Sacks talks about the perils of profiling people, his friendship with Robin Williams (who played him in the film "Awakenings"), his wariness of technology, an island where 10% of the population can't see color, and his wonder over our "unimaginably complex and beautiful" brains.

If Oliver wasn't so brilliant, I would have turned this interview off in the first few seconds because of Charlie Rose's constant ignorant interruption...
exactly what I thought
Same. I am more interested in what Oliver Sacks has to say than Charlie
An angel in this cruel, fake world. And none can explain the importance of the presence of "human" in some disciplines anymore. We're done.
Did you keep it (. 100 lbs ) off?
What a question !!!
Well, Charlie Rose had a rather ignoble end to a persistently annoying career, justifiably so.
BTW, real big fan of Oliver Sacks and this was an especially egregious interview.
I still want to know what the deal was with the woman who was afraid of pens.
When Robin Williams clicked the pen it looked like she thought that it was a needle for an injection.
@@bookwoman53 Interesting. I didn't think of that, and yet somehow, I think I should have known this already.
I generally love Charlie Rose, but he spoke far too much in this interview. Especially with someone like Oliver Sacks who is a voracious writer, you really just need to sit back and let him talk.
👍
I used to love Charlie rose then I watched him interview the author of Angela's Ashes. I didn't want to watch him after that and I never read the book.
charlie rose's constant interrupting is really annoying. He should stop answering his own questions and let Sacks speak.
Well don’t have to worry about that anymore since his sexual naughtiness allegations came out.
Let the man speak and finish one thought before bombarding him with another question!
RIP Dr. Oliver Sacks (July 9, 1933 - August 30, 2015), aged 82
And
RIP Robin Williams (July 21, 1951 - August 11, 2014), aged 63
You both will always be remembered as legends.
It's fascinating a coincidence that both were born and deceased in the same months, respectively.
Oliver Sacks has inspired me to take up study at the age of 46.What an insight he has to the mind and brain .Thank you Mr Sacks, for your contribution to our understanding you will be forevermore in our memories and our education ----Tracie Hall Australia Melbourne .
Oh to be a fly on the wall in the room where Oliver Sacks and Robin Williams just sit and talk and discuss life
Strange that I see Robin Williams in him. Perhaps they are strangely from the same Genus, phylum, species. Etc...
Technically species include other unawakened people are of that same species....same
Worldview, perspective, etc
Robin Williams was Dr. Sacks and Dr. Sacks was Robin Williams. They were, just like he said, so similiar but complementary creatures. They looked alike, they moved alike. It's so amazing.
what an amazing man, his humanity is something to be in ore of.
I see what you did, there.
If this was a Goldman Sacks pun, then I salute you
These two men made a huge impression on me in my earlier years. Oliver Sacks is so interested in the people and I thought that was great. So to with Charlie Rose and the idea of sitting down and really talking to other people about the world.
So sad that two of my favorite people are now gone, Oliver Sacks and Robin Williams.
Charlie Rose the Interrupter, the worst interviewer ever who always somehow booked the best guests. Why Rose needs to say anything during this interview is beyond me. Just let the great man talk.
Interviewer, shut up and let Dr. Sacks talk.
oh man Charlie can be obnoxious, but Oliver shines through
Such a strange coincidence.... just the other day I was saying to my wife that Sacks looked like Robin Williams, then this comes up. Weird. Sacks is a great author; I just finished Hallucinations, and am working on Musicophilia. Like it a lot.
carpo719 Was your phone, aka listening device, nearby when you said that?
Oliver Sacks was yoked back in the 60s. Absolute unit. Muscle Beach frequenter.
Just listen to the answers ay Charlie?
BRAIN TRANSPLANT for People without Conscious...Thanks.... RIP

Gosh, I wish I’d known this man. His world was so rich with experiences, knowledge, curiosity, and empathy. He also loved and understood the world of music, and musicians, something I’ve been immersed in for many years. I also found the interviewers techniques very annoying.
He is so cute. I used to sleep with his picture.
That is extremely sweet.
Thank you Oliver
Brilliant man Oliver
Charlie Rose - yes! you are interrupting - grrrrrrrr- he was not a good interviewer
I like Charlie, always did. I LOVE Dr. Sacks tho. I woulda LOVED to have been his, friend.
Much obliged for this video
Robin William and Dr. Sacks resemble each other in looks, attitude, and charity.
Oliver was able to get an ordinary Joe such as I to get interested in his work. That's quite a feat. His books are not only interesting to read, they are very beautiful, full of humanity, always an uplifting experience. I'm reading 'The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat', at the moment and it's sheer joy.
Very smiley and intriguing guy, his Oaxaca journal was one of my favourite books, I read the whole thing and I rarely finish a book.
0:40 Yes you are, Charlie. Over and over and over again.
Awesome man
Yeah... Really interesting the many similarities between he and Robin. Robin was not completely of this earth. That's probably why he spaced himself from Robin for a while. It seems as if Mork was already like this man. It's quite uncanny. 💚
Wtf is olivers probs?
Ruben Toco - It's said that he was an extremely high-functioning autist... a multi-talented genius, really; enormously accomplished in a number of different fields--though like many such individuals somewhat socially awkward. People like that are often hard for most people to fully relate to or appreciate.
