“I believe Greg Koch is pound for pound the best guitar player in the world today. His, tone, feel and style are unrivaled in today’s guitar playing community. He is scary good. ” - JOE BONAMASSA
That's the truth, only I genuinely believe he could be the greatest player of all time. He manages to nail all the greats, and has his own style and sound. He can play a 5 minute jam, and include more music than in some people's discographies. A true legend, I just hope the world wakes up and makes him ruler
I know this was posted a long time ago, but I can’t tell you guys how many times I’ve watched this. It’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot in my 52 years. Good God y’all!
@fastguitar Excellent point! Unfortunately Jimmy was intoxicated quite often. I'm a huge Jimmy Page fan however I have heard many of his live recordings that were not always so inspiring. The first LZ concert I went to ended 4 songs into the concert. They literally had to carry Jimmy off the stage. That sucked royally! Again, I think JP is one of the all time greatest guitar players. I believe Greg would agree which is why he plays this song with so much passion. Clearly, JP is inspired by JP.
I love them all but i also love tab benoit because he writes his own songs great ones at that and has his own unique style that doesn't sound like anyone else and hes just an amazing individual doing amazing things..
you know the phrase "he sings with guitar" ??? well, this is a level above... but not only him .. amazing drumming, heavenly organs .. amazing trio indeed
Great guitarists always have one thing in common.... impeccable and original phrasing, to the point what they play is literally the equivalent of them speaking. SRV, EVH, Clapton, Blackmore...and the list goes on.... Greg is on this list.
A monster shout out to Cadillac Zack - who for years has brought the LA area the best of the Blues. Before COVID-19 and the shutdown, shortly after this show, he'd produced well over 1000 of these events - along with the yearly Topanga Blues Festivals, and the Battle of The Blues Bands. Thank you, Zack - from a devoted fan!
Yeah but finding one is so hard. I keep trying to find one and just cant get there. I suppose its because oh my les paul. She wont let me touch another.
Teles are workhorses, but after 25+ years of playing them exclusively, I switched to a PRS. The key is finding the guitar that resonates with you and your touch on the instrument. Once you’ve done that it will elevate your ability to manifest thoughts and ideas into music. In short, it’s not one guitar, you’ve got to find YOUR guitar. My PRS is Korean and I could care less.
I avoided Tele’s for many, many years. Admittedly, I was too set in my Strat and Les Paul ways to ever give Tele’s a shot. Very snobbish on my part. I thought they looked “weird,” didn’t look rock n’ roll enough for my tastes. Finally-after watching dozens of John 5 RUclips videos-came to realize the guitar’s versatility. Finally bought one 4 months ago and have not regretted it once! I still play my Strat and LP’s, but there is a special, unapproachable quality and feel to a Tele.
@@AlienSexGod - Yes, he was. The whole band was. John Paul Jones may have been the only constant, between the studio and the stage. I'm sure none of the audience cared, though.... I sure wouldn't have.
i put this at 1/2 speed to figure out what our man Greg is up to. The sustain that his set up has is fantastic, yet there is such clarity on the notes. Thank you Greg for giving me these killer riffs.
How can anyone thumbs down this guy he has the gift of soulful playing Greg is the real deal why he’s playing small bars is a shame. When I was at GIT I saw so many guys come go that tried so hard that just didn’t have the gift probably the biggest example is Paul Gilbert and he’s spent the last 20 years trying to become a good blues player but he wasn’t born with the gift of soulful playing but was one of the best technical players and a wonderful and great teacher. I use to say you can make it dance but can you make it sing young grass hopper.
I have a question for you. In the video, is Greg getting that controlled feedback from just a loud amp or do you think he's using something like a Digitech Freqout pedal?
Nick Fox - his Wildwood Guitars demos seem to be mainly amp and cable with a little bit of drive or crunch switches in and out (often it's all in the amp like the Koch amplification The Greg amplifier made in Germany - yeah it's his own model.) This guitar has some trickery onboard with the Fishman Gristle Tone switchable circuit that changes the character of the pickups from a sweeter to a ruder sound. Please see the little added push button on the control plate, you hardly notice it. Basically let's you gig two types of essential Tele guitars with half the weight.
This is the most sublime piece of musical and imaginative guitar playing that I've seen in a long while. Shall I use the 'f' word? Yep, 'feel' - by the bucketload. All the right notes in the right order - and the feedback control......this is quality guitar playing right here, no mistake.
Incredible. Greg, with the young guys , his son and Toby , is mostly letting go of his ingenious mannerisms and immersing himself in the music, result: great, incredible, otherworldly stuff 🙏 thank you so much for this
Yeah, sometime Greg can be like Frank Zappa when I'm in the mood for rocking blues. Here he's not. Speaking of rocking blues, here's Jeff Healey playing live with Stevie Ray. You won't be disappointed. ruclips.net/video/2mKggAwT-YQ/видео.html

King Koch you’re amazing and you reinforce my conviction that the ELECTRIC guitar is the most expressive instrument on the planet. I for one respect, admire appreciate and flat out enjoy listening and watching you take command of this fine instrument!!! Keep Rocking it!!
@@robhosea6734 Correct. And this guy is obsessed with screwing with the knobs, to a nerve-wracking degree, instead of learning to control his sound with his fingers.
Greg Koch utterly jaw dropping, as usual, but note also his son, Dylan Koch absolutely nailing the John Bonham vibe on the drums, all he needs is the squeaky bass drum pedal like the original studio version.
Since I've Been Loving the Big Koch.............
I also love the organ! Toby and Greg's son on drums are the perfect tasteful foils and support,
