Christ's descent into Hell was NOT for punishment but for victory! ALL Christ's suffering was done on the Cross. Jesus said, "IT is FINISHED!"

@@j.wat.3437 "It is Finnished!" means that Christ atoned for all sins of humanity on the cross (Vicarious Atonement). Salvation was "completed" by Jesus! Jesus accepted all the suffering and punishment that you and I deserved! Now you and I are free and do not have to suffer the punishment of hell!! This also means that Jesus descent into hell could not have been for punishment! That was already "finished!" Jesus descent into hell was to proclaim victory!

@@williampalmer9921 I think that the word finished does not tell the story. I like what you said Complete . Accomplished I like to use. Because look what he did do. He was not thinking of his death alone but the fact that he had accomplish what he was sent here to do. He proved Satan a liar, didn't fall for the temptations, like Adam did. He preached, taught, healed and spoke how great his father is. He taught more but we get it don't we? Your answer was great I just took it a lil further. As for as hell if it was a place of torment and punishment that does not go along with the meaning of Sheol, Hades or the grave. Punishment is for correction. If hell was for torment then where is the correction. The teaching of hellfire is that it's for everlasting torment. If there's no more death like the bible says, and if death will die then where is this hellfire? Christ will get rid of the last enemy Death. Have you really done research on the origin of this Hellfire? Could it be a man made myth taught after 96 CE? Paul mention that men will rise up and teach Twisted things. The True God hated those that forced others to be burned. He never approved of the practiced among the Pagan Nations. Burning a human at the stake! Ask yourself where did that come from? It is a teaching of the Father of the Lie. And the Perpetual teachings of false religion. These teachings has tickled the ears of man in Christendom for years. Along with the traditions and customs that have very little to do with Christ.

@@williampalmer9921 you went to work! You will never hear me disrespect or knock any Translation of the Scriptures. And after looking at those scriptures they do not use the term hell or hellfire. And that's ok but I do ask anyone believing in a hellfire to do their on research into words, doctrines and their origin. And another thing that I ask " would the Almighty do such a thing" the Bible says that he is love. Torture is not love. To see anyone suffer everlasting torture is not a quality that my god is made of. His Love, Justice, Wisdom and Power is not in harmony with that either. Some say well he is God he does what he wants to! Yes he does indeed but through out the original writings the word in Hebrew and Greek the thought of Sheol and Hades was a place of rest from suffering. It is only man that has ever come up with the thought that hell is hell fire. A person has that right to believe what they want. But my God Jehovah nor his precious Son who is King now. Would never do such as that. Jesus will destroy Hell ( the Grave and Death itself ) and then there will be no Hell. The worst of criminals murderers serial killers would you like to see the prison system put them in the electric chair and burn them non stop and make them feel the pain for their sins? Any that says yes to that does not know the true God. You just may want that for another human, but do you want that for yourself? We are made in his image. No one wants to see anyone suffer pain. How does it make you feel to a sick love one suffer pain in the hospital? But you say that God does that when a person dies. Does it say "at death Man is acquitted of his sins" yes it does.

Yom Kippur (the day of attonment), a ritual to appease the almighty, eventually Jesus sacrificed on the cross much the same. God likes the smell of burnt flesh or ritual sacrifice of any nature? Where was Jonah between the time he was swallowed by the big fish, and the time he was vomited out onto dry land? Jonah 1:17 "Jehovah now sent a huge fish to swallow Joʹnah, so that Joʹnah came to be in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights."
Jesus said, Matthew 12:40 "For just as Joʹnah was in the belly of the huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights."
Jesus was dead and in his grave for 3 days and 3 nights. Then, Just as Jonah was brought back out of the fish to stand up on dry ground, Jesus was raised back to life to stand up again. The Greek word translated Resurrection literally means to stand back up.

Jesus went to Hades/Sheol in the belly of the earth. The paradise that Jesus was referring to was the part of Hades known as Abrahams bosom… The part of Hades where the old testament saints as well as those who had died from the time of Adam and Eve to the time of Christs crucifixion .. (those saved )were waiting to be taken to heaven.
Jesus took those saints to heaven to be with the Father. Prior to that, those saved prior to Christ's death could not enter heaven because they had not been atoned for their sins as of yet.
It was only after Christ's death that those souls were able to enter the third heaven where God reigns.

Karen carison, The problems with your theory, are, [1]Jesus went to Hell, [Hades], Acts 2: 27, &v31, Not Abraham's bosom, [Kolpos], Lk 16: 22.[2]Abraham's bosom was a place of comfort, Lk 16: 25. Whereas Jesus was in pain, Acts 2: 24, God didn't loose Jesus from the pains of physical death, Jesus died, But God did loose Jesus from the pains of Spiritual death and Hell, when Jesus was made alive in His Spirit, 1 Pet 3: 18.Then Jesus went into another part of Hell, [Tartarus], 1 Pet 3: 19, where He proclaimed His victory over the devil and Hell to the fallen angels. 1 Pet 3: 19. 2 Pet 2: 4--5. Jude 6. Then Jesus went into Abraham's bosom, To preach the gospel to the old Testament saints, 1 Pet 4: 6.Every time Jesus mentioned Hell, it was always the place of torment, Hel, as in Hades, Lk 16: 22--25.Hell as Tartarus, 2 Pet 2: 4 Jude 6., Hell as in Gehenna, [The lake of fire], Rev 20: 10.And the Bible clearly says that Jesus went to Hell, [Hades].

    • @thetwoedgedsword733
      @thetwoedgedsword733 7 лет назад +6

Dr Alan Hales can I ask what you refer to the Lake of fire as, is this what you refer to as Hell? isn't sheol the Hebrew word for "the place of the dead" and the New Testament equivalent of sheol is Hades which also refers to "the place of the dead", both these being a temporary place not an eternal place according to the Bible where souls or spirits are kept awaiting Judgement. Rev 20:11-15 "Death and Hades "gave up the dead" who were in them and were thrown into the lake of fire" the lake of fire being the eternal place of the un-believer.
Sheol/Hades and Abrahams bosom were divided by a great chasm, when Jesus died he went to Abrahams Bosom preached to the spirits in sheol/Hades where unbelievers remain until Judgment, those who "were" in Abrahams bosom are now with God in Heaven/paradise.
In conclusion - Jesus did not go to Hell, Jesus went to Sheol/Hades but the Blessed side known as Abrahams bosom.
Lets not forget also that Heaven is a temporary place, the bible clearly states that God creates new Heavens and a new Earth - where we will live the way God intended it to be where God dwells with his people on the New Earth forever in the New Jerusalem, but that's another subject.

    • @mrburgy
      @mrburgy 6 лет назад

Hades/sheol have nothing to do with christianity. Sheol is a hebrew place for the dead, everyone who dies goes there. Hades is the god of the underworld where the dead go. He is also the brother of zeus and posidon who rule the sky and sea. Which they got after defeating their dad cronos, a titan. Stop using terms in ways they were not meant to be used. Ya know like christ and satan are titles not names of which there were several of both.

Karen carlson Paradise is in the earth? How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
      2 Corinthians 12:4 KJV
Seems it's not in the earth otherwise it wouldn't say caught up.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
      Revelation 2:7 KJV
Let's see if we can find out for sure where paradise is located only using scripture.
I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
      2 Corinthians 12:2‭-‬4 KJV
Notice in 2co 12:2 he says the man was caught up to the third Heaven? And then in 2co 12:4 he says the same thing but uses paradise in place of the third heaven. Rev 2:7 we read that the tree of life is in the midst of the paradise of God. We can easily deduce that paradise and heaven are the same place.
Also Abraham's bosom is a body part. Not a place. If you are in someone's bosom you are being embraced by that person. Please stop following foolish teachings of men and reading false Bible's. The KJV is the only English translation directly from the original Hebrew and Greek texts.

Gehenna, or the valley of Hinnom, is an actual valley in the city of Jerusalem. In Israel's past, it was used as a place of child sacrifice. From the reign of Josiah onward, it was used as a garbage dump where the fires burned the refuse continuously. Jesus used it as an illustration of the final judgment of the wicked. Gehenna is the permanent place where both the body and the soul are reunited to spend eternity apart from God. It is located outside the new Jerusalem, the place where believers will be with the Lord.

Allow me to give you some wise information, as it seems you are on the right track.
If you do some research. You will find that Jesus rose on Monday, not Saturday or Sunday. Jesus was taken captive on Wednesday night. (check the Jewish Calendar of 29 AD) He lived through the night as Peter was tempted. Therefore he was crucified on Thursday afternoon. He spent 3 days and 3 nights in the grave. This puts him rising late Sunday (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) at the earliest.
However, we must take account of the time it took for his body to be taken down and placed in the tomb. (which nobody does). This places him later Thursday, perhaps even around midnight. But none the less, we won't use that because we don't have the exact facts on when his body was placed in the tomb.
If we use the Jewish days, we find 3 days takes us to the evening and late into Sunday. This means according to the Jewish days, it was now Monday.
If we take into account that Jesus did not go by Jewish times, and was on the modern time of days, this also places us on Monday. Taking the time it took to get Jesus off the cross as the sun was setting, and it was getting dark. Add up the time it would take him down and to carry him off, plus prepare his body would take us very likely past the midnight hour in modern times.
Jesus was to be in the tomb for 3 days and 3 nights, but never said how long he would be dead before getting there.
If we go by the 3-1/2 years of the first week, we can safely say he would be dead for 3-1/2 days, but only in the tomb for 3 days and 3 nights.
None the less, no matter how you look at it, Jesus was resurrected back to life by God on Monday.

David Grant, Where doe the Bible say Abraham's boson was paradise?, Paradise, Greek, [Paradeisos], is only mentioned three times in the New Testament, and it means heaven. The Bible doesn't say that Jesus went to heaven, or Abraham's bosom that day, He went to Hell, [Hades], See Acts 2: 27, & v31 with Lk 16: 22--25. Jesus didn't go there until after He was born again in hell, [Hades], 1 Pet 3: 18. Acts 13: 33. Then Jesus went into Tartarus, to proclaim His victory over the devil and hell, 1 Pet 3: 19.2 Pet 2: 4-5. Jude 6.Then Jesus went into Abraham's bosom to preach the gospel to the OT Saints, 1 Pet 4: 6.Then forty days after He was resurrected, He went to Paradise, [Heaven].When Jesus said, "It is finished, Jn 19: 30, He wasn't talking about His work for salvation.[1]Heb 9: 16--17, say the testator has to die before the testament is of any force, And when Jesus said it is finished, He wasn't dead, dead men DON'T speak.[2]He had to go to Hell, See the above .[3]Then Jesus had to be raised from the dead to save us, Rom 4: 25. 1 Cor 15: 17.Jesus also said He finished the work, in Jn 17: 4., So what Jesus meant, was His earthly Ministry had finished, Plus the prophecies that were about His death were about to be fulfilled.

Could it be that she went to "cling" to Him and Jesus was now different in His relationship to them and this is why He sent us the Holy Spirit to take that place. It couldn't have been about touch because doubting Thomas got to do that. I believe He had ascended right after He descended, took the keys and went next door to Abraham's bosom and led the old testimate to heaven. His body had not ascended but Thomas touched it, so that part doesn't make sense as to not touch his body yet because it had not acsended. I believe it was all about the word "cling".
Then again, it could be another mystery to test our faith, you know, like those that try to stir up the body (church) from within, just like the doctrines of the the trinity, the rapture, calvanism and such, things that have nothing to do with salvation.

I don’t know where Jesus went, but when I was made dead by God through separation, I found myself in a long dark hallway. Pitch black. I can only describe to you where I was because upon my arrival I was placed in a spot that was illuminated. I’ll get to that in a minute.
But it was a pitch black hallway. It wasn’t an ordinary hallway. It looked like the inside of an internment chamber. The kind we put my dad in when he passed. Only this one was life sized. It was pitch black. There were other people there. I saw them walk by where I stood. All looked at the ground or close to it. All heads drooped as if too heavy a burden. None spoke, none looked around. They walked by in despair into the blackness. They were all without Hope, and all were separated from God. I was dead and I was amongst the dead, and that it is where we were. I was now one of them. I too, would momentarily walk into the darkness, for eternity. Or so I thought.
I turned around to see what was illuminating the area where I stood. It was a barrier. It was translucent but impenetrable. It was very large, like a movie screen, and on the other side, was life. It was a barrier between life and death. The life on the other side was of earth, but it was far better than anything you or I know of earth life. People were happy, connected, loving, talking, laughing, there was joy. No one was a stranger or lonely.
I grieved. I mourned. I was angry. I was bereft abandoned foresaken thrown away by God, and without Hope. I was dead, and it was incomprehensible.
I won’t tell you about my death or resurrection from the dead only with through by and because of My Lord and My Savior, Jesus the Christ. The First, the Last, the Alpha and the Omega. The only Son of God. First resurrected from the dead. Who IS Truth, Hope, and Life of the World. He REIGNS Forever! And ever! I don’t know where Jesus went, but I can tell you that He was the Only ONE capable of coming back for me, and He did. Blessed be He. My King. My Teacher and my Physician. He is the only One who holds the keys from death to Life. He is the Only Way.

Here's what I see in the Word: Matt. 28:7 - When the two Mary's went to the tomb and saw the angel sitting on the stone he rolled away, the Angel said: "Go and tell His Disciples He has risen from the DEAD..." Death is not in Heaven, so, He didn't go there. He also did not just 'wander' around in 'space', or the earth and lollygag and do nothing, He WENT to HELL. DEATH IS HELL itself. HE was NOT subject to death because that was conquered the moment His body died. His spirit went DIRECTLY to Hell, not to suffer there, but to CONQUER death, hell, and the grave. There is NO WAY HE could have CONQUERED death if He hadn't GONE there to DO so! Death can't be conquered in Heaven because there IS no death in Heaven. Hell was so 'SHAKEN' by HIS PRESENCE there, it split the rocks and caused a great earthquake. The people who died IN CHRIST rose from the dead. People who died without Christ could not have POSSIBLY risen from the dead, they remained in Hell. Hell was so overwhelmed with HIS presence, those who were IN CHRIST had to automatically LEAVE because DEATH could no longer HOLD them! Hallelujah, HE conquered DEATH, HELL, AND THE GRAVE.....FOR US!!!!!!!!!

      Isiah 53:11 KJV
"He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities."
A prophecy concerning what will happen to Jesus. He has also a body, soul, and spirit. In the crucifixion, his BODY is suffering because of pain and shed his blood. He gives up his spirit to God in the crucifixion. The verse talks about soul, how can he see the travail of his soul without experiencing any pain.
Back in the Old Testament, the sacrifices made by Israelites are shadowing what will to their Messiah. They slaughter the sacrifice and sprinkle the blood on the Ark of Covenant. One goat for being the scapegoat. The other one is burned in the fire.
Now, there is the importance to this. We can be saved by believing the gospel (1 Cor. 15: 1-4 KJV),
      1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
      3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

@@michaeljoshuavargas5308 Sorry, but we can't be "saved by believing" the gospel. We believe the gospel by being saved, for salvation is of grace. "Believe and ye shall BE saved," not "become" saved or "get" saved. Further, it wasn't merely Christ's 'body' that suffered. "He," whatever "he" is to mean (that's a whole other ontological discussion), suffered, not "his body." "Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death." Sorry, that's not his body that's in sorrow. Finally, Christ's release of His spirit says nothing of its location in said release. It is clear that the great saints David and Samuel are NOT in heaven (Acts 2:34; I Sam. 28:12). In addition, throughout the whole of Revelation, not a single saint is named in heaven; not Paul, not Peter, not Moses, not Elijah, NONE. As Paul tell us, "We are seated in heavenly places with Christ," i.e., NOW. Consequently, we have unfulfilled presence in heaven but we are not IN heaven now or after death. "The dead know nothing." Not sure what point you're trying to make, but the ones you do make do not withstand scrutiny.

I believe Jesus' Proclamation was much more than what you stated. Why didn't Jesus make a Proclamation to the Assyrian soldiers that wanted to attack Jerusalem and died by the hand of ONE angel? Why didn't Jesus make a Proclamation to the king that threw the "Three Hebrew Boys" in the furnace?
The enemy of God knew that Jesus was going to redeem mankind and they tried to stop Him from the beginning. In their trying to provoke God, they tried to ruin the human blood supply. Genesis 6:12 spoke on it. They tried to kill Jesus in the Slaughter of The Innocents. They tried to stone Jesus for blasphemey numerous times. Satan entered into a disciple of Jesus for the betrayal. The demons saw Christ on the cross and they must have been feeling great while they were watching Him Die. Through the Genius of God's Plan and the Love of Jesus Christ and the Power of The Holy Spirit, Jesus through the Spirit told the enemy that he was a loser and He lead to righteous out to everlasting life! I think it’s very clear where Jesus went when he died:
‘So he went and preached to the spirits in prison- those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat.’
    Or in its full context:
“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
So he went and preached to the spirits in prison- those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood. And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
    1 Peter 3:18-21

    • @joyceharris9296
      @joyceharris9296 4 года назад

CAUTION - - this is a mere PICTURE or imagery of baptism. Note that the act of baptism (of full emersion or a sprinkle on the head) does not SAVE anyone. If so then why would CHRIST need to still DIE on the cross. It does not make sense. The amazing truth is that ONLY JESUS SAVES us from the curse of sin across the human race sin the Garden of Eden. Public baptism is the imagery of BURYING our sins /dying to our old self, like all the souls in Noahs day drowning since they denied God is real. So today it relates to our personal sins/ habits/ filthy rags that we bring to the cross and we lay it all down, and as we emerge from the water we symbolically are raised in to newness of life in Christ. AGAIN,,, nothing mankind does is ever good enough to save us, THAT is the reason GOD implanted himself into a human body encased that little male forming body by HOLY SPIRIT to keep the devine nature intact as he would never otherwise have been able to be the sinless one to save the sinful ones like you and me. And that was the whole point of why he died, sinless to authorise the removal of the keys from Hades and Death so death no longer had any sting for those who bowed to His authority over life and death. I hope this makes sense. IF I had time I would quote all the scriptures for each one but that's not the case right now. Bless you one and all who read this. IF any of this is not true then let God be true and me the liar (Gal 3:4)

Gehenna or Tophet not hell but the place of the wicked dead in soul and body.

The Jews delivered their concepts basically from the Pharisaic core concepts. In the Pharisaic concepts, Hades is zoned in multiple locations. One main location is for the custody of the wicked souls. A lake of fire is reserved for future use (after the Final Judgment). A darker place called pit or Abyss for the prisoning of the fallen angels. Paradise is an extended concept, as if there is a location for the wicked souls then there should be a location for the good souls. Paradise is thus a location in Hades for the good souls to stay before the Final Judgment comes. However Jewish concepts are only up to an accuracy for a analogue concept to convey. That is, such a kind of concepts can only be carried forward by the ancient Jews this way. The actually truth may be, everyone descends to Hades after death, except for those didn't ever taste death such as Elijah and Enoch. The wicked will be on their own, with the good souls protected by God in one way or another. Those wicked souls without protection may finally be owned by the fallen angels escaping from the Abyss (that's how Satan comes out at some point to deceive the world). In a nutshell, paradise are for those protected souls in Hades.

You REALLY need to study Luke 24 properly.
You take the Friday lie to the other extreme Wednesday.
Luke 24:13-21 (NKJV) 13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day (SUNDAY) to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. 17 And He said to them, "What kind of conversation [is] this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?" 18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?" 19 And He said to them, "What things?" So they said to Him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 "and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 "But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, TODAY IS THE THIRD DAY SINCE these things happened.
      So....
Sunday is the Third day SINCE
Saturday is the Second day SINCE
Friday is the FIRST day SINCE
THURSDAY when “the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him.”
Jesus ATE the Passover Wednesday Night.
And you need to ask God what His True and Holy Name is! It isn’t Yahweh!!!
He knows what it is - you need to ask Him and stop listening to Blind Teachers!

The reason people say he died on Friday is because he did as it was the preparation day, they were not able to finish getting his body ready when he died about 3 on Friday evening because the Sabbath was about to start. He would not of resurrected on Saturday. Note because Christ was keeping the Sabbath even in his death. This is why they were coming back on Sunday morning, the first day of the week to quickly finish the process before he started to decay.. see John 20:1. But they were stopped by the Angel saying he had Risen. The reason you are trying to place this on Wed with the feast of passover is to try to make sense of 3 days... But that a misunderstanding of the text .. To many have been taught incorrect... the text that this comes from partly is "So shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the Earth" ...This does not mean in the grave. in fact scripture uses this wordage to describe the grave anywhere else in scripture. Its an assumption that it means the grave. again that a wrong assumption. When you read for example.. "they will be done IN earth as it is in heaven" does that mean in the tomb? of course not. Jesus wasnt talking about 3 days in the grave when he said "in the heart of the earth" He was talking about being in the clutches of the world. Christ during his ministry was untouchable. Every time the mob tried to stone Jesus or kill him or throw him off a cliff he would walk right through there mists, or invisible..Basically they were never able to harm him in any way because he was under his fathers protection. But on Thursday night when he was in the garden of Gethsemanehe said :now is the hour of darkness:.. which was right before he was arrested. Then the mob came. They tied him up and beat him, later mocked and whipped and had the thrones put on his head.. it was then when he started to suffer for the sins of the world. He didnt start suffering for sins of the world on the Cross. He was a captive to the devil the same was Jonah was captive by the whale and went where ever the whale went. Jonah was in that dark hopeless environment for 3 days and 3 nights...the same way that Christ was in the clutches of the lost world for 3 days and 3 nights... This is why he said to the disciples that hour of darkness had began and told Peter to put away his sword because this is why he came. So you have Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night he was taking the penalty of our sins. Which is punishment and death.. He then rose Sunday morning (the 1st day of the week) before the sun had come up. it had nothing to do with the tomb.

My church teaches that when people die they go to a place set aside for the dead spirits to go to. Those that lived a good life to the free paradisiacal side and those that led a bad life to the prison side. There was a great gulf between these two sides that could not be crossed. Neither could any spirit leave this place of the dead. When Jesus gave up his life his spirit went there. He built a bridge between paradise and prison so that the good spirits could minister to the imprisoned ones and give them the opportunity to come to God. Then when he had dwelt there the alotted time he rose fro the dead and destroyed the bands of death in that moment. This makes it possible for the complete resurrection that will take place later on.

Okay... I'm usually not confused at Todd's teaching of God's Word, but in this message Todd speaks out of both side's of his mouth. He went to paradise "today" (which had just about ended as God begins each day at sundown.) and He went to a place where soul's who rejected Truth to preach the Gospel... Hmmm... There are multiple levels of "hell" and Heaven... He descends to the LOWER part of the earth... Where and how is Todd translating that to mean Christ coming from Heaven to earth???
    Ummm yeeaahh???
Let's not forget Christ took our punishment on Himself and that is to be SEPARATED from all that is GOOD and LIGHT. Also, the Word says the Father turned His face from Christ and like Todd points out He goes somewhere souls are that rejected God/Truth ... Where else is that then "hell" (a place of separation from God) ... Also, when He said "Today, you will be with Me in Paradise it's translation in the entirety of the context holds a different meaning... Christ wasn't the only one resurrected either... Death, resurrection THEN ascension... God is a God of order and if He says Christ bore our punishment, I believe Him. Otherwise what was the point??? (I need to re-read that scripture and look into what the original text is for the word TODAY and how it's used in context of that part of scripture again) I'm fairly certain it's meaning isn't what Todd explained. I could be wrong... I'll get back to this for sure...
    Christ says,
"Father, why have You forsaken Me?" is coming to mind...
He took on our punishment which isn't as nice as His crucifixion... Be back after some study, prayer and meditation... I've not been disappointed in Todd's teaching before but this is dangerous theology if he's wrong. As more and more people's are losing belief in hell being real... What would the point have been had He not been separated from our Father? Which is what happens to people not going to Heaven... That's our punishment. Not the crucifixion...

The crucifixion happened on Wednesday, and the next day was the First Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which the first day of the weeklong observance is a yearly Sabbath. The day before, Tuesday, after sunset, was the Passover meal. Wednesday was the "preparation day" for the next day of the yearly Sabbath. He was crucified on Wednesday, and the resurrection occurred a short time BEFORE sunset on Saturday, exactly 72 hours in the tomb. There is nowhere in the Bible that says the resurrection occurred on Sunday. When they found the tomb empty Sunday morning he had already been gone by 9 or 10 hours. Whey do people ASSUME that because they found the tomb empty Sunday morning that the resurrection occurred on Sunday? Why do they ASSUME that the next day after the crucifixion was the WEEKLY Sabbath, when John 19:31 clearly states that the next day was a YEARLY Sabbath (High Sabbath), and the original scripture of Matthew 28:1 says, "After the SABBATHS (plural) were past.....". The word "Hell" is a translation from a word that just means "the grave". He went down into the grave, not down into some place where there are souls (people) waiting. When a person dies, they are unconscious (temporarily out of existence) until their "second birth" ("birth" means "come into existence") at the resurrection when Jesus comes back.

Do more research. You will find that Jesus rose on Monday, not Saturday or Sunday. Jesus was taken captive on Wednesday night. (check the Jewish Calendar) He lived through the night as Peter was tempted. Therefore he was crucified on Thursday afternoon. He spent 3 days and 3 nights in the grave. This puts him late Sunday (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) at the earliest.

@@antichrist_revealed The U.S. Naval Observatory has confirmed that in 31 AD Passover happened on WEDNESDAY. He was taken captive on TUESDAY night, and crucified the next day, on the Passover day, Wednesday. Daniel 9 states, "In the middle of the week he will cause (the NEED for) sacrifice to cease". Neither Thursday nor Friday is the "Middle of the week". Wednesday is the middle of the week, the day he caused the need for animal sacrifice to cease. The reason they took him down after he was dead was to get him into the grave BEFORE sunset, in accordance with Jewish religious law. They notified Pilate that the next day (Thursday) was a yearly Sabbath (John 19:31), and the Romans complied with Jewish law, so as not to anger the Jews. When he was crucified, Pilate was not aware that the next day was a yearly Sabbath, the First day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. He had to be in the tomb BEFORE sunset on Wednesday evening. He was in the tomb for EXACTLY 72 hours, from Wednesday evening, before sunset, and was resurrected just before sunset on Saturday, EXACTLY three days and three nights.
When they found the tomb empty Sunday MORNING (the morning of the first day of the week, look at your calendar), he had already been gone about TEN HOURS. The guards were frightened by the angel, who rolled the stone away, just before sunset on Saturday. When the women went to the tomb on Sunday morning, one of them said, "Who will help us roll the stone away?", because they knew the guards had already finished their three days watch, so would be gone and could not help them roll the stone away, so the guards had to be placed there Wednesday night, and would end their watch Saturday night.
But, the women were not aware that the stone had already been rolled away about ten hours earlier, by the angel just before sunset on Saturday night, in time to frighten the guards shortly before their watch would have ended. The Bible clearly states that they found the tomb empty on the morning of the first day of the week, on Sunday, which is STILL the first day of the week, take a look at your calendar. It is provable that Thursday of that week was the YEARLY Sabbath of the First day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. In John 19:31, take away the parenthesis, and instead of the word "for", use "because", which is what "for" means in the old English. "Because the next day was a yearly Sabbath (a "High day"), they went to "notify" Pilate, that the body had to be in the tomb BEFORE sunset. You are, apparently, ignorant of Jewish law concerning burial, that the body has to be put into the tome BEFORE the Sabbath begins, which begins at sunset. Jesus was NOT on the "modern time of days", as you state. When they went to Pilate, what they were telling him was, "We have to have him buried before sunset, in accordance with Jewish law", which is why they had to break the legs of the two next to him, to hasten their deaths, and put a spear into his side to ensure that he was dead. I don't know what you are talking about when you say, "If we go by the 3-1/2 years of the first week,.....". What 3.5 years and what "first week"?

@@antichrist_revealed He was baptized in late 27 A.D., which started the final 7 years of the Daniel 70-weeks prophecy. 3.5 years later he was crucified, "in the Middle of the (final) week he will cause (the need for) sacrifice to cease". 3.5 years after the crucifixion was the stoning of Stephen, ending the final 70th week, which was the final rejection of the messiah by the Pharasees (including Saul, who was later renamed Paul). At the end of the 490 years (70 weeks) then Paul took the word to the gentiles. The one who proclaims himself "God on Earth" is the Pope, who considers where he already sits, St. Peter's Basilica, to be the "Temple of God". When Paul wrote that he will sit in the temple of God and consider himself as God, he was talking about the Pope, who sits in what he CONSIDERS to be the Temple of God, and has "Vicarius Filli Dei", on his throne (and used to be on his Mitre (hat)), which means "Instead of the Son of God", where "God" means "Authority", and Catholics consider the Pope to be their "God" (Authority), which is a violation of the first Commandment, "You shall have no other AUTHORITY BETWEEN you and me". In the Latin words, "Vicarius Filli Dei", are the Roman numerals that add up to 666. There is no indication in the Bible that the Temple in Jerusalem will ever be built again, and the belief in that is a misunderstanding of what Paul was talking about. Also, Passover happened in 27 A.D. several months BEFORE Jesus (Yahshua) was baptized, as he was baptized in the FALL of 27 A.D. In Spring of 31 A.D., when he was crucified on the Passover, that Passover happened on WEDNESDAY.

Please read the account of the risen Christ at his tomb at John 20: 1-17. In verse 17, Jesus says, quote, " Do not cling to me FOR I HAVE NOT YET ASCENDED TO MY FATHER......" This was said on the DAY of his resurrection. He did NOT go to heaven when he died but was IN HE GRAVE for 3 days. Nor did the thief on the cross go immediately and if the scripture that states, "today you will be with me in paradise' is interpreted literally that same day, there would be a biblical contradiction. "Today' likely means that the thief on the cross was given assurance of life in Christ from that day forward, but the promise was not fulfilled on that exact day.

Brother that sounds good, but it's only partially true, there is a scripture that says touch me not for I have not yet ascended to my father. There is another one that says that Hell hath in larged it's self. And in the rich man and Lazarus story, The rich man saw Abraham and Lazarus was in his bosom. Paradise was a chamber for the Old Testament saints, The rich man was able to see across this great chasm, but was not able to pass, The Bible also mentions about graves being broken open on the day of the crucifixion, it is my understanding, because the Bible says he had first descended before he ascended, that he did preach to the Old Testament saints, because the Old Testament was a teaching rule about sacrifice and blood shed for sins, but Jesus told them at the final sacrifice had been made and it was him, God himself that performed it, and they were leaving in spirit to go and be with the heavenly father on the day Jesus ascended after he was seen of his apostles ,and over 500 people.

Peter continues: For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit. (1 Peter 4:6)
We don't get 'a chance' (or a 2nd chance) to accept the gospel. The gospel is the message 'For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.' (1 Corinthians 15:22). It is finished indeed. Christ has made sure '..that that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.' (Phillipians 2:10-11)

Sorry, Abraham's "bosom" does not exist. It's just a play on the Jews always saying, "We have Abraham for our Father, we're saved" or we're God's children.
Luke 16 is a parable, "Lazarus and the Rich man" told by Jesus to teach there is no second chance for salvation--that if we do not choose Jesus in this life before death, there's no second chance for us. The part about hades or the fire burning, is just an allegory that's a part of His teaching. It's also impossible for those who will be saved to communicate with those who will burn to ashes after the 1000 years. Some of Jesus's parables are based on actual events, but this one is mostly not except for one part:
Luke 16:31 And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Who was it that rose from the dead Jesus refers to? Lazarus, that Jesus resurrected Himself.
The rich man had five brothers who he said he didn't want to "come to this place" which is hellfire, so he asked "father Abraham" to send "one from the dead" but Jesus said it would do no good, and to let the 5 brothers "hear the prophets" or rather be persuaded by God's Word.
The whole thing is a parable based upon the Jews false beliefs, that Jesus used, turned it upside down, and gave it a strange twist to try and teach truth. The Pharisees believed in a resurrection and the Sadducees didn't.

@@stevebilliter Luke 16 is not a parable. It doesn't follow the usual verbiage or rules that parables follow. Jesus never mentioned names in parables, as He does here, and He also began parables with "there was a certain man etc". Very impersonal. He not only spoke of Lazarus, but also Abraham. If you determine it is a parable, show me in the Word some comparable examples.

    • @stevebilliter
      @stevebilliter 5 лет назад

@@aprilsanchez5402 sorry, but I have to disagree, it is a parable. Jesus spoke to the false beliefs of the Jews only to teach there is no second chance for salvation. Even though He used real names here, it's still a parable.
For one thing, the dead are dead--they go nowhere at death until the resurrection:
Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecc 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
These verses do not speak of either of the 2 resurrections--they stop short of that--but they do show death is just what it looks like. The idea of a soul leaving the body and living on comes from Greek mythology--the Bible does not teach such an idea. And that is why Luke 16, is the parable of Lazarus and the rich man.
I recommend reading this chapter "A Great Gulf Fixed" from the book, Christ's Object Lessons." en.wikisource.org/wiki/Christ%27s_Object_Lessons/%22A_Great_Gulf_Fixed%22

I'm confused. So you say the Creed is wrong and Jesus did not go to hell. But on the other hand you say He did go to preach to the dead who used to mock God when they were alive. Well, where do you think that was if not in hell ? The Creed does not say Jesus went to hell to suffer, so obviously He went there to preach and proclaim salvation to the dead of the past and to plunder hell of its dead who would believe on Jesus (Ephesians 4:8).
Also, you seem to believe that Jesus could only have been in one place at a time after His death, either in heaven or elsewhere. Why would you even apply natural laws on Jesus once He passed onto that realm ? Can't you see you're trying to fit Him into a box of your own understanding ? Give me a reason why He could not simultaneously be with the Father and Holy Spirit on the Throne of God, with the crucified villain in paradise and preaching to the dead in hell ? If He could pass through walls and closed doors, He could also have been everywhere at the same time.

Don't misunderstand me: I believe Biblical and Theological training can increase our understanding but I also believe it can seriously confuse our understanding. I am just curious to know from what backgrounds these comments come. We theologians have been arguing these issues for millennia which only proves that education does not give us definitive understanding. I too had issues with the theology being expressed in this video but I find fleshing out various people's understanding of scripture is indeed intriguing. For the record since I raised the issue: I am a seminary trained UCC pastor with a MDIV degree. Therefore because of the Jewish day of preparation, since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there." John 19:41-42. And the Bible also tells us that on the 3rd day he, Jesus, was no longer in the tomb because he had risen to life. So bizarre how the vain imaginations of men blind them to the obvious.

If not, a much more germane question with respect to Jesus' claims and His movement occurs in Luke and in Acts and specifically with respect to the Ascension.
If the premise is Christ is God the Son, whether it's a descent to Hades or ascent to Heaven, are such actions impossible for God?
      Explicitly, that's Luke 24:50-53 and Acts 1:9-12.

I think the speaker misunderstand descended into hell phrase. It means Hades where the unsaved are just like the story in the Luke 16 about Lazarus in Abraham's bosom. Additionally not convinced with the speaker's explanation of Eph 4:9. He says the original scholars misinterpreted it but gave no substantiating proof for his own interpretation. In a way he contradicts himself.
As others have pointed out there are other passages that point to a place below earth that Jesus descended to- Psa 16:8-11, Acts 2:31
Hell was made for the Devil and his angels and will be open only after the final judgement. Those that do not accept Jesus will finally go there. I think we should be clear that Devil and his angels are not in hell now. They are free and wreaking havoc (your adversary roams like a a lion ...) also hades/sheol are temporary abodes till final judgement

He descended into Hades freeing those who were held captive by Satan. Before Christ, resurrection of the dead was not possible. Paul tells us in his letter to the Ephesians 4:8-10 about the descent into Hades. Jesus by His descent was filling all things with Himself. Don't think of God in such a limited fashion as if He were just a mere man. As David tells us in Psalm 24 which is the prophecy of Jesus' descent into Hades, that He IS the King of Glory (Jesus). In John 17:20-23 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one- I in them and you in me-so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."
Is it possible for Jesus to be in paradise with the thief and in hades as well? Yes.
The same way that John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord while he was alive, he prepared the way of the Lord in the realm of the dead.
We also know that Jesus was not the only one to rise, for when He rose as found into the gospel of Matthew 27:51-53 "At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people."
I understand your desire to be accurate but what you are doing is interpreting your understanding of the scriptures in a modern sense almost two millenia later. The early church knew fact not theory. They did not yet codify which books were part of the New testament till later. They did not have chapter or verse numbers. That came about at a later date. What your proposing is mere speculation on your modern interpretation. We must accept the wisdom of the early church and not characterize them as being the ones as misinterpreting scriptures.
    "CHRIST IS RISEN!"

Would like to have been in heaven when he arrived back though after dying on the cross, you can just imagine what was said, Jesus: 'Father, I'm back.' GOD: 'Hello Son, sorry but its not you time yet, you have to go back.' Jesus: 'What!!!!!!' GOD: 'Its only for a short time, you will be with me again' Jesus: 'Can I have help with the stone in front of the tomb?' GOD: 'It will be moved.' So Jesus returned and the body was revived. Stone rolled away while all around slept and he escaped only to be seen later. Just something that occurred as I love NDE documentaries. I am also a Bible believing Christian. God is good.

On the cross Jesus told one of the criminals on the other cross , you will be with me this day in Paradise , so he was in Paradise and then Ressurected back to Earth , he had beaten Death and was in Paradise , he didn't say from this day in heaven . He told Mary after she saw him and went to embrace him , he said touch me not for I haven't ascended to my Father in heaven

He went to win the battle and retrieve the keys of Hades and set the captives free. That’s why the dead rose to life as soon as Jesus gave up his spirit into himself.

Why then did Jesus tell Mary “Don’t touch me for I have not yet ascended to my father”?

Every human being just going through life, can at times feel like hell, which is why I'm not afraid of death, because the daily grind will come to an end. This sounds very morbid but this is just my view. Everyone feels different about the struggles of life.

Jesus ROSE!!! and declared that he who believes in Him will NEVER DIE before RISING from the DEAD...like all men Jesus is Flesh & Blood...and before His Body starts to ROT, God through the POWER of the Atom putting together to form Life on the Third Day as PROMISED, The POWER was so INTENSE it rolled the STONE from the Grave for Jesus to walk out in All His GLORY!!!

I think some people might be forgetting the difference between someone’s spirit and their glorified body. I do believe Jesus spirit went to the father the day he died but then when he was raised physically that was why he could say he hasn’t gone to the father yet. His glorified body hadn’t gone yet that’s why he said to Mary to not touch him. I do not believe Jesus was just dead for 3 days without any activity going on until his resurrection.

How in the world do you get three days and three nights from Friday to Sunday morning?

There's a mistake here. In the original language the verse says, Jesus tells the thief on the cross that I tell you today, (coma) you will be with me in paradise. There's punctuation that was missing in the translation. Jesus did not go anywhere but rest because it was Sabbath and rested then resurrected on Sunday. Evidence of this as he tells someone after they had seen him not to touch him as he had not ascended to his Father. In the Bible it says that the dead know nothing as well, also Jesus called Lazarus out the grave not from sky.

As soon as Jesus died on the cross , keeping in mind GOD is a powerful spirit, jesus tore the curtain in temple in half....
