@gaffladd2003 Your comment brings back great memories of Partington in the 1960s. We lived on Central Road back then and it was always exciting when Silcock's came visiting. Before the Market was built the Fair occupied the whole field with the Noah's Ark/Speedway being the centre piece - playing all the wonderful 1960s pop music. 1973/74 was my last year at Broadoak - it certainly comes to mind as I can remember distinctly hearing a chart number from that year being played during the ride!

I love being on the Waltzer when the car starts spinning and does not stop until the end of the entire ride! ... that doesn't always happen on the waltzer ...

I remember working on this machine for Arthur when i was about 18 ( over 30 years ago ) the funny thing is that this was not a waltzer to start with but a speedway ride and Arthur decided to change it to a waltzer in 1978 i think and the machine was sent to scotland to get re fitted during the close season , if you look closer you can see the cars are a lot smaller on this machine than a normal waltzer and also the dip at the front of the machine is not as steep as a normal waltzer and thats because it used to be a speedway ride

@gaffladd2003 You would have been in my younger brother's year - he left in 1976. I had no contact with anyone out of my class after leaving Broadoak - but facebook changed that in the last couple of years. I was also glad to leave school - it certainly wasn't the best time of my life, but those that were proper have got in touch.
My earliest memories of the fair are around 1963 on what was known as the Bull Ring where the market was built. It was occasionally at Cross Lane East in some years.
