Just goes to show what impeccable taste the Viennese have! I have adored her ever since I started listening to opera as a teenager and got to know her through recordings of Figaro and Don Giovanni. At the same time I saw her in a Carreras gala on tv, singing duets from Carmen, Cavalleria and Italiana. Her timbre is unique and instantly recognizable, and her personality just sparkles. She's a true star
she probably has the sickest voice i have ever heard ever! the power and endurance in her voice is absolutely amazing and the lack of discrepency between her head and chest voice is just flawless!! unbelievable!!! why cant i sing like her???? haha why do i have to be a soprano???
Immer wieder schön zu hören, wie lange Agnes Baltsa schon über mehrere Stimmen gleichzeitig verfügt. Diese Registerwechsel schmerzen jedes Mal, keine Gesangslinie, da mag sie spielen, wie sie will.
The more I hear of Baltsa the more she grows on me. She is rough at the edges - all of them - and has more charm than I originally thought. She gives as good as she takes - preferrably with brassknuckles. Those glances. But that I have never heard this before: She SINGS hiccups - and sneezes! And she does it in wieneese dialect. Brava...... I even believe the mustage is homegrown!!
I knew she'd be perfect for Orlofsky, brava. While the 'stache is simply divine, her hair could've used some masculinity appropriate for a prince in that era. Here she looks like its her own hair in a feminine coif. One of my favorite mezzos, if not for her dramatic instincts certainly her comedic flairs. I've never understood her head-bobbing reluctance to kiss Plácido Domingo in scenes where a kiss on the lips was called for, but maybe one day someone in the know will fill me in. Mil gracias por compartir.
P.S. I am looking for this opera, in its entirety, on a CD (or 2 CD set), in studio, 1986, Munich Radio Orchestra, conducted by Domingo, with Lucia Popp as Rosalinde, Kurt Rydl as Eisenstein (I think), Baltsa as Orlofsky, Eva Lind and... Domingo as Alfred! In the opening scene, after the street side serenade of Adele (because Rosalinde is out unknown to him), when he climbs through the window, apparently Domingo tosses in an Esultate! in the mish-mash of arias he sings while wooing Rosalinde (now returned). Hahahahahahaha - this I've GOT to hear! If you can help, I'd be so, so grateful. I'm thinking it may require someone taking their vinyl LP and turntable and digitizing it in some way. Letting it play while the GoPro is aimed at the turntable playing and then uploading it here? One can dream, can't one?..... Mil gracias in advance to anyone who takes pity on me.
I was there watching to this amazing presentation. Very cool! Baltsa is an idol in Vienna and I love her as they do. Great performance!

Her Orlofsky is too funny and charming to watch just one time. I've seen it almost 50 times, and it's never boring. Lovely.

This is also very special. Her only performances as Orlofsky apart from the recording that she made!

I should think it's available on amazon.com.
Why so dark scene?
Μπράβο, Αγνή Μπάλτσα:)
Really?? why? she sounds wonderfully
Just a lot funnier.i think Brigitte set the bar too high for anyone else.
да нет :) поет вроде ничего
Die Stimme toll, aber nicht herausragend, den Rest finde ich absolut fürchterlich!
Zhara Rose
Aber für diese Rolle ist Baltsa meinen Augen eine absolute Fehlbesetzung
