If there were, it would help to confirm the actual year of the nativity, and the veracity of the biical story. The Roman administration were qite good at record keeping. Finney ore is a hoot. That's why only Mathew mentions (with none of the later lore details) the visit. Its supposed to beef up the counterargument of 'why don't the rest of the Jews see him as Messiah?'.
