  • Hello Doctor!
I’m writing this short introductory note to personally invite you to explore the opportunities we have for anesthesiologists to work in this amazing region of British Columbia. You’ll work in a small, dedicated, rural team to provide anesthesiology services to our region of over 80,000 residents.
There are numerous opportunities to explore a broad range of practice here, and the freedom to forge new paths in rural anesthesiology care - being a small team means we can be nimble!
Of course, alongside a vibrant work life, Kootenay Boundary is a beautiful location. You don't need to take a break to go anywhere, every day you are in vacation mode! In that vein, we recently did a poll with colleagues and here are some favourite experiences they’ve had in Kootenay Boundary:
Dr. Scot Mountain (Director of ICU): "Sailing on Kootenay Lake! It never ceases to amaze me how empty Kootenay Lake is, and how huge it is. We sail there every summer, and it is always a highlight to get out on the water alone, and glide back and forth across the lake with mountains rising on each side of us, and only the sound of the wind."
Dr. Sam Segal (Chair, Department of Internal Medicine): "My most incredible Kootenay experience was cat skiing and heli-mountain biking the same terrain at Retallack. Amazing!"
Dr. Megan Taylor (Family Medicine Specialist): "I live in Castlegar and in 20 minutes from my door I can be jumping onto beautiful groomed cross country ski trails. One of my most magical skiing memories took place a few years ago. My sister was visiting and we decided on a night ski. It was crisp and clear, the snow was perfect. It was silent with the only noise being our skis and non-stop chatting! We had our headlamps and moonlight to light the way. It was like we were the only people on the planet. And we saw the craziest things - tiny spiders that crawled on the snow - both of us thought we were hallucinating at first, but we kept seeing them. And though we did bring a little wine to warm us up at the half way point, we didn’t have that much to drink! It was an amazing night, we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the night, of the mountains, of the earth and our privilege to be able to enjoy it."

I hope this will give you a flavour of what awaits you in the Kootenays! If you are interested in hearing more, please read on - Or feel free to contact our dedicated recruitment team lead, Sylvain Turgeon by email sylvain@kbdoctors.ca or by phone/text message +1-778-557-8267.
