Back in 2008, when I was a child, FSX was the best flight simulator I had ever seen. Before it, there was FS 2004, which was similar but had lower-quality graphics. Compared to modern simulators like Flight Simulator 2020 or X-Plane 11 and 12, FSX does look quite old. However, I still have it in my account and occasionally play it! 😂One of the great features of FSX is the flying school. If you go to the learning center in the menu, you'll find flight lessons. Although I'm not a real pilot, I can say these lessons are pretty good. Each lesson includes articles with some basic theory, which you need to read before practicing the lesson with a virtual flight instructor. The instructor guides you through the process, telling you what to do and when. There are also exams for each "license" in the game-PPL, CPL, and ATPL. For beginners, as I was back then, these lessons are awesome. They provide a great introduction to flight simulation and even aviation in general. For $25, I think it's a pretty good deal.
You're supposed to do a long press of F2, not just 1 press. F2 is supposed to be decrease thrust, if you can see it in the animation of the throttle and when you press it long enough, it will activate the reverse thrust. F1 is to set thrust to idle, F3 is increase thrust and F4 is full thrust.
I remember getting in trouble with my older sister for playing FS2004 before school when we were supposed to be getting ready 😂 (she was two grades older than me and drove me to school) After school in high school I played FS2004 and FSX before doing my homework 😂 in the fall I had marching band practice until 5 but even on days that I didn’t, I still played FS9/FSX til 5 😂 my parents were at work so they couldn’t stop me
Its funny to me (still flying FSX) that you find the locked spot view your favorite, while i personally consider it the worst. I think it has to do with your preference for mouse camera control, whereas i prefer using a POV hat.
I still play FS2004 these days, this comment makes me nostalgic, when I discovered this 10 years ago as I didn’t know the aircraft can break, I had fun messing around with it, even the Ai aircraft can break when you make them flyable or download already flyable conversions
F2 also works in MSFS 2020, as an FSX veteran I remember how to do this when I forget to switch to the proper control profile.... First F1 to idle the engines, then hold F2 for max rev thrust.
FSX still has the best addons. Some of the most detailed addons were made into it. But not all aircraft are anymore in use, so never updated to newer sims. And F2 needs to be pressed all the time. Or other option is obviously to pull throttles using mouse to reverse.
First 30 seconds and I gotta post some corrections. The game came out in 2006 and received one expansion pack and service pack in 2007. Other than this the game is completely untouched and did not receive any more updates except for the release on steam in 2015 or so but that didn’t change anything about the game, just packaged it up onto the steam store. Definitely was not receiving updates until 2020 came out.
well well,,,FSX is still flyable even in vatsim enviroment,,,with cheaps addons (aircrafts and sceneries) without wasting thousands dollars in a high quality CPU and videocard. I am a msfs2020 users but i love FSX with addons,,,ohhh that DC10, C130 captsim, 787 QW, and the mighty study level, the ilyushin IL76, wilco 737 classic, pmdg MD11, and a lot more.
As a kid, one of the things I used to do for fun in the Lear 45 in FSX was get it up to a good speed on the ground, then slam the brakes and turn it in one direction. Could get a pretty good nose wheelie going
I remember going from fs2004 to fsx and thinking to myself how realistic it looked. Then the addons came and no computer in the world could run it with more than 30 fps lol
@@elijaheverything9644 yea but would you rather have a cheap older console and a cheap game to plan or a next gen expensive game with a super expensive console
I just started playing FSX a couple days ago and it’s honestly great, a little disappointed that I couldn’t be around for its prime in the early-mid 2010s.
Also, when you want to use reverse thrust, you have to hold F2, not press. If you want to be efficient and don't have to hold buttons for much longer, first press F1, which commits your throttle to the idle position, before holding F2, which goes beyond the idle position and activates the reverse thrust.
Also, you can show the map in the right click. If I remember in the cockpit view, there should be one for GPS or Garmin and it will show the GPS with the Garmin skin. EDIT: Actually, you press ALT and it will show the menu bar on the top, the GPS should be in one of the views. There's also an option to show the telemetry on Locked Spot view.
I spent many hundreds or even thousands of hours in FSX and Prepar3D combined and the cameras really were terrible. There was an addon called Ezdok which gave you basically the same functionality you have in MSFS with free cameras and the ability to set preset camera angles. Only issue was the software would crash all the time, and when it did you couldn’t move the camera at all so basically had to quit your flight
You can use Shift+Z to view the red info text on top; it shows your position, altitude, airspeed, heading, and even wind. Press it again, and it shows your frame rate. Press it a 3rd time, and it shows both. Press it once more to hide the text. It's not like the FS2020 HUD, but it's something, at least. One thing I'll never forget about FSX was tweaking; getting FSX to perform well enough was a chore in its own right. Not even a 12th gen i3 (which I bought for FS2020) could significantly outperform the i7-4790 I used to run. Meanwhile, FS2004 (even on said i7) and FS2020 (on said i3; med settings w/ 1070 Ti) are a piece of cake; I'm currently playing both, albeit with visual mods on the former, for obvious reasons. P.S., I'm 100% with you on Locked Spot.
Great video. This is what we had to deal with back in the day. I loved FSX, and you could get a whole heap of mods for it. Also, I'm pretty sure it's FS 10, not X, as it's a roman numeral, lol. But it was fun.

4:30 If I remember correctly, one of the reason why more recent GPUs, CPUs, etc. still have trouble reaching 60FPS, is 'cause this game is CPU-intensive, instead of GPU, And even then, it was never designed for Multi-Core. And thus, only uses one of them. Leaving the rest with nothing to do.
