I really like the visual narrative to Xal'atath's character. She's always very ghostly in how she moves and floats and how her body language is really comfortable and invasive, and she always speaks in a mesmerizing, arrogant way. I also noticed at 10:02 if you go frame-by-frame you can actually see xal'atath noticing Alleria [her eyes move really quickly] before dodging. Really great detail. Also, did Khadgar's [apparent] demise remind anyone else of Thanos killing Heimdall after he sends Hulk away?
I couldn't agree more. I fully believe that they helped build Xalataths' character from what they learned with Bwonsamdi; ie the ghostly movement, the cryptic jests, the cunning demeanor. She is a fantastically built character. Man what I'd do to see Bwonsamdi and Xalatath in the same room 😱.
Archmage Drenden was missing in WoW for years. He use to be part of the Council of Six, but by the time we saw the Council in WoW he was no longer part of it, and hasnt been seen since. So when he appeared briefly as Xal'atath's guise it to Aleria, she had been gone so long she didnt realize he wasnt apart of the council anymore, and the players who knew him were immediately taken aback. I was even like "wait, what?. Something is wrong here" just in time for the scene to shift darker as she shed the guise.
I completely forgot about this! But he was in the guardian chamber in dalaran! Though now that I think about it, he was up the stairs by the hallway, away from khadgar and the others down in the space where the tidestone and the other legion items are... so many layers! They are cooking!
@@blerp6675 It makes sense, but how could Xal'atath be the Drenden we knew? In the Legion expansion, she was trapped in the dagger and couldn't use her powers until the Horde took the dagger to N'zoth (BFA) and released her. Only then could she do something. So, is it possible that the Drenden we knew was actually him and not Xal'atath at some point during BFA or before, he died (maybe in the Fourth War), and Xal'atath occupied his place
Fun fact: While helping the civilans to evacuate, you can find Aerith seemingly impaled by a sword in the building near the city entrance. She than gets up and says: "Phew. That was a close one" and walks to the evacuation site. Seems like they decided to make a reference to Rebirth's ending. XD
Khadgar doesnt have too many abilities that could save him other than teleporting, but he used his energy to teleport Aleria out last second. When Garrosh droped the mana bomb on Theramore at the beginning of MoP, the head Archmage at the time, Rhonin did the same thing to save Jaina last second as well, which mirrors what happened here. So while its definitely plausible Khadgar couldve made it out, i feel like it feels a lot better for this to be the end.
Thank you! It seems like this is probably his true death, I am just conditioned to think he’s invincible from you guys, so now I really think she is a threat!
@@PhilipHarts Tony Amendola is also 73 at this point. He's still going strong, voice acting wise, but I could very much see wanting to put khadgar to rest, so to speak.
Xal'atath was more present as a threat from the first few minutes of this expansion. It's a "don't tell me, show me" thing. And Xal showed she was there in person, messing people up, big, powerful people immediately. The Jailer = "I've been trapped in this realm secretly making plans, I've caused all the things you remember! I'm gonna do something naughty, but I'm not going to make it clear to anyone what it is. Better stop me..." Xal'atath = "You know I've been scheming something. I've been popping up everywhere the last year putting dominos in place. There's nothing you can do to stop it. Here, I'll prove it. *blows up Dalaran, kills Dadghar.*" Besides the obvious chewing the scenery characterization that just oozes charisma, Xal'atath is just a better villain. We know in the first 10 minutes of the expansion that she wants to do something voidy to Azeroth, Alleria is a big part of her plan, she doesn't give a damn about collateral damage, she's consolidating power and allies to her cause, not subjugating them. All that makes her a clear and present threat.

Love it!! Great hints dropped for true lore masters!

The character transition at 05:52 ... SO smooth, I can't even...

There is so much storytelling in the side quests. Truly great moments that gives so much perspective on the people and the lands you traveled through.

Lol, you trying to get over shoulder shots while Aleria and Anduin chat was so funny to me.
OH MAN IM SO FUCKING READY FOR THIS
Half of the Warcraft lore can be summed up with:
*A superpowered Elf with a vengeance.*
"There's actually character development happening."
Seeing you play the game, that is character development.
Is the full vod up anywhere?
Yes!! Full VOD is here: ruclips.net/user/liveuerYpwFESmc?feature=shared
@@PhilipHarts Thank you!!!
Some smite cinematic reactions?
This might not be for your channel but if you could react to the intro to dynasty warriors 5 that would be very cool
