I would have no trouble finding an old free horse....BUT, I need to have a long term plan for them. For every horse that I am feeding long term, many others will not get the opportunity to go through my program
@@TheCleverCowgirl well I was thinking specifically of the companion horse for skeletor. There are people who just can't afford or can't maintain horses anymore but are attached to them and would just prioritize them getting a nice owner.
@@lostribe5130I don't think it is her intention to keep Skeletors paddock mate for more than the year he's being rested for. After that the horse or mule would have to be sellable. Which is why she doesn't want an old free horse that she would have to keep until it passed away. Just my take on what I believe her plan is.
I find it wonderful of you to share your idea. Sometimes we may share a thought that the other person had not considered. It does no harm to share and personally I prefer sharing an idea that does not get used than remain quiet and later learn that it would have been helpful. ❤🎉So YaY for YoU sharing a good idea and who knows, it may help someone else who reads it much later on🎉❤
I contacted alot of people trying to find a home for him, but it is just so hard to get a good home for a horse like him. I need to work on a bigger property...
Cannot put into words how much Nigel has changed my life. I watch so many horse care videos, but have never run across such an inspirational little pony.
I was really hoping you'd get that older Mule. I've never been around a mule, but am a little obsessed with them lately, so I'd love to hear your comments and watch you work with one. I had been thinking that maybe you could pony Skele with your 4x4, but using a quiet, older animal makes much more sense, as it would also be his calming companion during the other 20 hours in the day. I always learn something new from you. For example, I thought it was for your horses' sakes that you isolate new animals, but when you point out that the new animal's stress level from change/travel/auction does a number on their immune system, this made perfect sense. Looking forward to more auctions in search of Skele's calm, healing partner :) Thank you for taking us along, CC.
@@TheCleverCowgirl it's just the selling of the horses that kills me, but like I've said many times here; I'm on a learning thread... Thank you for replying, very much appreciated x
I admire your ability and determination in attending horse auctions. I would have a rough time choosing a horse as my heart would be so torn. You will find the perfect horse companion for Skeletor.
I admire your ability to juggle suitability, emotions, and cost. I don't think most people understand how truly difficult that can be especially when you have to do it at lightening speed! My emotions would have me bringing home every animal with a human inflicted injury. LOL You are a treasure and I love your videos! I can't wait to see what perfect companion you find for Skelly. Hugs
I adore mules. They are rock solid in just about any condition. My step dad had several. He was a packer/guide in the Bob Marshal in the 80s. When I lived in AZ I was lucky to have one as my regular ride. Even in monsoon downpours in the mtns he never missed a step. My friend here in Libby has one he raised from a colt that I love. Scooter is a mischievous turd, but also bomb proof. LOL A good mule is priceless IMO.
Just as long as you don’t think he is invincible to the point of abuse as many people do around Animals, they think they are theirs to do as the please and cast them aside when no longer useful as we all see at the Horse sales!
Auctions are so heartwrending. . . Being a knowledgable vet trained equestrian, it must be very hard for you. Like all animals, life can be very unpredictable and unfair, through no fault of their own. But, the fact that you are searching for an older sensible horse/ mule is wonderful. I imagine alot of the older ones just get passed over due to thier age. In a perfect world, all domesticated animals would be able to live out thier lives in peace, contentment, love and good care till the end of their days. I know I am naive and simple, but all things are possible with the Lord God. I really hope you find that needy perfect fit for Skelly. Bless you girl!
One may wonder, whether most really nice older horses in many cases just end up being retired by their owners as pets and stay the corse at home, instead of making it to an auction. A personal horse is easy to emotionally attach to.
I love the auctions bc you talk about the horses and explain why or why not you will be buying them. That is really helpful. I also like that you go for the horse that no one else wants. I think Huckleberry is hilarious.
Thank you for taking us along to the auction, your dialogue accompanied was well done and very informative of how you decide on a horse or mule purchase. Combined with the video this was another excellent presentation. 👍

You can put a horse on a lunge line...but I've never seen an exercise for an over active brain -- except maybe a Jolleyball....the mules just loved to toss them, and then the dogs would steal them and run the acres. Good luck! I would go broke at one of these auctions, but Skeletor is worth the work.

Never mind CC there’s always next time, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Hi
You can put a horse on a lunge line...but I've never seen an exercise for an over active brain -- except maybe a Jolleyball....the mules just loved to toss them, and then the dogs would steal them and run the acres. Good luck! I would go broke at one of these auctions, but Skeletor is worth the work.
Thank you for telling us that there is a rescue there because as you keep informing us of all the horses that are in need of your care but knowing you financially you can’t take them all, understandably my heart was breaking💔❤️🩹❤️
I really appreciated knowing this too. Thank you for all you do.
Absolutely love your auctions videos!! Thanks 😍
I'm glad you put Skele out, I've never been a fan of "stall rest". I understand the concept, but horses need to be able to move.
How interesting! Love your videos!
