nice farm i might make one similar myself few notes if you care: for an xp farm it really is better if they land in 1 square so you can kill them easily and for a farm for drops like this one they kinda should die from falling.
You make a good point, it is a bit of a hassle having to circle the drop area, I might try to fix that. I did also think about doing it so they die on impact, but with a looting 3 sword, hitting them drops hella gunpowder

If the water keeps freezing, you should be able to waterlog some trapdoors to keep them water
