Regarding Nintendo’s recent actions on emulation, this is the only solution: *All types of intellectual property (IP) laws must be fully abolished immediately, in any and all jurisdictions worldwide.* All IP laws are extremely unethical for humankind. Against Intellectual Monopoly is the most informative book humanity has on the subject now. Against Intellectual Property is _another_ incredible essay, but it’s written with right-libertarian rhetoric so if you’re, like me, not right-libertarian you’ll have to read with an open mind and extract the info. _Only_ these two texts are the gold standard when it comes to intellectual property.
Sadly, what I found about libertarianism and capitalism over the past 25 years is that it all gets pulled to the right. By eliminating control, you also eliminate protection and corporations will exploit the absolute hell out of that.
@@Triknor Your comment is not relevant to IP laws though. It’s implicit in your reply that you don’t yet know how IP laws actually function. I mentioned the very best resources available to gain this knowledge. Go for it
I'm hoping the situation with duck station just ends up water under the birdge. But just in case, I'm going to grab the latest release and save them multiple places as I advise everyone else does as well.
That's the beauty of the GPL - it doesn't matter if the original creator is making money or not, anyone distributing it CAN do so commercially, so long as they still provide the source, and provide notice of what's been modified. By changing the license specifically to prevent this, yes Stenzek actually did violate the GPL. This is written out in PLAIN ENGLISH in the GPL itself, and isn't hard to find. That being said, I'm on his side here. I've had my contributions to a certain project I wont name here stolen and locked away behind a server claiming they did it, and while I did make the fixes because of that server, I was doing the right thing and uploading upstream instead of directly to their repo. How they stole it, was by locking it behind a private repo (that now I can't even access myself because I quit), which violated the parent project's licensing, and yet they're still able to operate, and they did this because someone cloned the project and began running their own server with it. The only reason I didn't push to actively get them shut down over it, was because what I did was somewhat minor (I fixed a few boss fights with one script). That still doesn't make it feel ok though, that there is code out there that I put together, that I have 0 access to, being used by someone I don't care too much for.
I play duck station everyday so hopefully we can keep it alive, The people profiting off of the emulator without contributing or creating it are the scum of the emulation community. Also the eu has been killing it recently with holding the massive corporations accountable
God, not again. This time DuckStation may ne suffering the same fate and I knew what Tahlreth was up to from behind and I can see his mischief from far...
Palworld said they have too much money already and don't know how to upscale properly. Why would they ever even think F2P live service was a good idea?
there's two things about the GPL: 1) just because you release something on the GPL doesn't mean that you cannot *also* release something under some other license. 2) for the license to be revoked, you *do* need permission from all of the other contributors, as otherwise that would be a breach of the license. Having said that, two more things: 3) if you have a copy of a GPL released version, you are completely allowed to fork it and 4) the GPL has been tried in court. It's expensive, but it *is* binding. Long story short, if you're angry about the license change, you should be far more angry about the people violating the GPL not only here but everywhere else making this kind of thing the alleged only way forwards. Has this permission been obtained to change the license? nfi.
There's been a running constant for a while now where people who engage in bad behaviour are the most vocal when it comes to facing the consequences of their actions - especially when they're making money from it. It really does seem like Stenzek is looking after the future of the project, and I could easily see them being completely right in this situation. They find a bunch of GPL-violating code being contributed to the project, remove / rewrite the code, get permission from the valid contributors to change the licence to protect it somewhat against the bad contributors, and then the latter group kicks off as they can't be lazy or make money off it anymore. More power to them, tbh. Comparing the BEUC case to the nonsense that is Milberg Londons two lawsuits against Sony and Steam (the SteamYouOweUs / SonyYouOweUs) speaks volumes; the BEUC case is based on legitimate issues and concerns, whereas the Milberg cases are just lawyers on the payroll of Microsoft, Ubisoft and others who can't compete and so are trying to hurt the market leaders through underhanded means.
I have the Pro Fold and watched the JRE video. I have dropped it twice, once on wood floor, once on concrete and it's held up with the thin official case. Phone seems to be built pretty well considering it's pretty thin. Couldn't be happier tbh, but everyone mileage may vary....
Drama in any community because people feel some sort of entitlement on a project or piece of software they never work on is crazy to me. Some of yall are good at ruining something that’s suppose to be enjoyable, but will start saying someone is mentally ill or has issues because they feel like threats towards them in anyway shouldn’t be tolerated and it shouldn’t. Doesn’t matter who or where, have some damn respect or move on to troll someone else.
Obviously, it would be easy for someone to take the most recent GPL version of Duckstation and fork it. Most who have been copying it, though, are not really interested in maintaining it, but just want to find a way to use it to make a quick buck. I remember using a thick MSI laptop with a Core 2 Quad back in the day with nice cooling, and using it on a kitchen table and then noticing the exhaust fan was melting the butter. It wasn't loud, and it had good airflow.
Quick correction on Echoes of Wisdom - it hasn't actually leaked. A leaked review copy is believed to be held by one person, but the actual ROM is not in the wild and is not freely available. That being said there are 10 days left until the release so a leak will likely be coming soon regardless

I am against it. If he wanted to make it restricted, then go ahead, do so from the start or make a fork with proper restricted licensing. I do not like FOSS bait-and-switching. FOSS means freedom and openness to the software, to the code. Let people do whatever they want with the code. Stop with these erosion of what FOSS stands for. Personally speaking, I'd be moving to a different emulator. With a developer that volatile and questionable long-term access to the code, it would make more sense for me to go ahead and migrate to something else rather than wait until the dev throws another tantrum.
I am thankful that Duck Station is made . My thanks goes to him for all the handwork but if he shuts it down, I don't mind at all because every game work on it. I've tried so many games on it and they all play perfect on it.

I'd probably buy the receiver and use it with an 8bitdo Pro 2 as it's a solid controller, even for the Gamecube going on how the the button layout for the Thrustmaster controllers worked for those games. I kind of wish 8bitdo would look into trying to convert the pro 2 to a PlayStation style controller for my PS2 and PS3 enjoying cousin. I'd also suggest experimenting with the Duke's button layout to have multi color versions such as a Xbox and Super Famicom versions of their Pro controllers complete with Black and White Macro buttons for a Pro 3 controller. I don't think I've found a controller that is good for Playstation and Sega Genesis/Sega Saturn/Nintendo 64 emulation purposes, but I think The Duke could be part of the solution.
Y'know I couldn't give a half a crap about most Xbx exclusives, but This "Lego Halo" might be the only thing I actually try downloading Xenia for. AS for Duckstation. How about people just leave the guy alone for Pete's sake? It's the people who just want to enjoy the work that suffer when people push and prod like they know better. If he's such a bother to you go elsewhere and make your own project from scratch, be useful rather than part of the problem.

Leave my boy Stenzeck alone. I respect his craft and his wishes. Let that man cook.
The Tuxedo Laptop is a variant of the XMG Apex 17 MAX. I own the Apex 15 with an AMD R7 7845HS and RTX 4050 "115W" and the fans are not loud at all + Temp are great too. The Tuxedo should be very capable in high end emulation on the go with that powerhouse of a CPU.
(Sigh) Tahlreth
A hero for a brief moment, then society morphed him into a villain
It looks like Stenzek is indeed Talreth, the developer behind AetherSX2. Such a shame that he's behind the best PS1 emulator. *sigh*.
It's okay. Even if he shut down Duckstation someone will fork it and continue it, like NetherSX2 or the new mobile PS2 emulator coming out soon for mobile.
If Stenzek/Tahlreth shuts down PS1 DuckStation like he did with PS2 AetherSX2 Ima be devastated and hurt at least we are getting new PS1 & PS2 Emulators for Android while PC Windows Linux I think the same could happen his lose won’t be in vain it will be replaced by others to continue on his legacy
It seems like there's always something going on in the a PlayStation emulation scene. AetherSX2, RPCS3 pushing out an update blocking the firmware on Sony's website, and now this.
Is it a big deal with the firmware being blocked
@@razorbackroar They reversed it, I think it was just one guy and not the whole team, but it will was pretty bad.
Let's support stenzek to continue this amazing ps1 emulator
YES! Finally somebody's calling out Supercell for their greedy corpo malpractices! Have you guys seen those in-game costs for skins and other bundles? It's disgustingly high priced for seemingly average looking skins and bundles that they're selling! so much so that it's atrocious to even think about playing that game. One can buy a decent AAA game on sale for those prices!
I hope he doesn't delete the repo since duckstation is such an amazing emulator. Reminder: Stenzek not only released one of the best ps1 emulators right now but also helps the pscx2 development too, all for free.
"There are four lights!" If you know, you know.
Duck Station requiring a license puts a stranglehold on it. Emulators should be truly FREE and OPEN SOURCE.
its still the same for you. the exception is companies cant just take the emulator and make money off it without doing anything for Duckstation.
Unusually longer video than usual but packed with tons of informations. I dig it.
A one fluff could be refreshing though
No one needs to be specfically excited about Forza Horizon 2 on PC with this new project. This game has been playable on PC for a long time with Xenia. It will be more interesting to see in the future what other (if any) Xbox One exclusive titles that are not already on PC, or emulatable from another console, become playable.
people are addicent to drama, they look for it everywhere.
What to spoil in a Zelda game? the story is the same everytime, good guys will win and bad guy lose.
Oh god if Reddit and X Shuts down duckstation like they did to aether, GG
He's on X?, no wonder he sees toxic 💩. He should ignore that and get off that platform. I don't know who is earning money. I have not ever seen pay for RetroArch or even ads, so I'm confused how they profit
idk how many people already told tahlzek to ignore the trolls but apparently he loves to entertain them and complain later.... classic tahlzek
I felt not happy about this Duckstation when it shuts down just like what happens is…. Aethersx2, and Citra or yuzu or not good 😢.
Regarding Nintendo’s recent actions on emulation, this is the only solution:
*All types of intellectual property (IP) laws must be fully abolished immediately, in any and all jurisdictions worldwide.* All IP laws are extremely unethical for humankind.
I also have a playlist (not _my_ videos) of *the* best videos on intellectual property laws on my channel for all interested.
Go for it
@@user-wl2xl5hm7k go 4 it?? like the plutonia 2 map?
I hope XWine1 gets released soon. Looks pretty nifty.
Went straight to steam after seeing the last chapter title lol
Has this permission been obtained to change the license? nfi.
I'd never heard of Ruffle before, but it sounds interesting
That professor Layton news is some great news. You love to hear it :) Especially from such a big IP
Corporations easily can get emulators shut down, just harassing the Devs it seems.
They need to wisen up
Obviously, it would be easy for someone to take the most recent GPL version of Duckstation and fork it.
Man someone managed to run Spiderman remastered in winlator
Quick correction on Echoes of Wisdom - it hasn't actually leaked. A leaked review copy is believed to be held by one person, but the actual ROM is not in the wild and is not freely available. That being said there are 10 days left until the release so a leak will likely be coming soon regardless
Ohhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! The receiver! The receiver!
I was just looking for something like this!
The reeeeeceiiiiiver!
Eyy I also just got the Pixo Pro XL!
Freeking love ruffle. I'm glad to see it's officially on android. Look forward to one day a closer relationship between them and flashpoint archive .
If you had an 8bitdo affiliate link, I could have gotten you some kickback!
Welp that does it I'm backing up all my appimages and exes. This crap is endless.
EDIT: DONE!
banger of a video! thanks for all the updates. Also, DUCKSTATION...... we lovey you! Don't leave us due to some bad seeds.
If you like quiet laptops you would love the rog x flow 16. It has a 4070 but even at full load it is very quiet. It is the most quiet gaming laptop I have ever owned and the fact that it can do tent mode when controller gaming makes it even better.
Thanks for keeping us up to date ^^
Seriously l hope Duckstation does not end up like AetherSX2
😂 I love the fact that a new TMNT game coming out soon. Probably, the single best news I have heard all day!
I mean it's like, totally Cowabunga, Dude..😆
🤦Remember what happened to that one PS VITA emulator? That guy also said screw it all I'm done he kept getting threats, and demands. This crap is why we can't have nice things smh. I too would quit to give a nice "Yeah? Well, suck on THIS then." to my attackers.🤷
I dont blame stenzeck if it wasn't for him duckstation and some of the best parts of pcsx2 wouldn't even be possible
Duckstation controversy? Shocked I tell you, shocked!
*Quak Quak*
The DuckStation controversy taking up nearly the entire video is absolutely bizarre
Honestly i am loving the teen age mutant ninja turtles game it looks good and fun at the same time,
Its Too bad that not a lot of game developer are making game like this and i am a fan of how this game have given its first impression
Steznak does not seem to be a Fan of Open Source
I'm still fine with using the Android version of Duckstation since it still works flawlessly and as long as will get any update soon it's okay
Fan of Duckstation, good luck and here's to hoping it continues. Works well with Playnite.
I have the 9 Pro Fold and I love it. The phone is rather durable for every day use. If your intentionally trying to destroy it then yea applying pressure on the hinge trying to fold it the wrong way will fail easily. The device is thin so not surprising at all.
Yeah i tested Halo Mega, runs ok with an specific Xenia Update
People just need to learn to let people do what they want with their creations, if you feel some type of way make your own emulator
I freaking LOVE duckstation. My favorite emulator off all time! Seriously. It's so good. ❤
Are they going to take up development and archiving of the code if he pulls it? If he's such a bother to you go elsewhere and make your own project from scratch, be useful rather than part of the problem.
I have a feeling that duckstation will be shutting down sooner or later. Hope you guys really have a Idea of making your own emulators
Waking up in the morning and then read this news about one of my fav emulator (duckstation)... Oh GOD, please save this emulator.
It's already saved everything is playable 100% so who cares
@@Allious131 it does play all the game i wanna play and its already perfect for me. The only one thing we have to do is download all multi platform instalation zip file for back up.
@@Allious131 Stop repeating the same thing. We get that you fail to understand the point of updates.
@@Fender178 Are you not smart? why does something that is finished 100% need more updates it's done.
Maybe the Game Over Action might lead to developers focusing on less gacha type games.
I really hope duckstation dose not get shut down because I would be really angry if it did because of what’s been going on
can you cover decomps and recomps of games?
What's a good source to follow for these?
Microsoft: Hey that project Haggar game looks fun. Let's cancel it immediately!

"The lack of price transparency of premium in game currency and the need to buy extra currency in bundles pushes consumers to spend more"
aight im sold on this, no need to read the rest, they are unimportant to me... screw paying in game digital currencies in bundles, i want a one to one currency exchange...
my OCD always triggers when i buy one bundle only to see unspent in game digital currency lying around lmfao..
I wonder how well using the 8BitDo Gamecube controller conversion kit will work with the Laser Bear GC-Bluetooth mod. Guess there's only one way to find out.
Hope Xwine1 do more progress to run AC Mirage on it😍
3:42 "will it stop them? of course not. but it makes me feel better, and that's what matters here"
So he knows it won't fix the problems he wants fixed, and only creates new problems for people who actually follow licenses, and he did it anyway. Lame.
I hope Duckstation doesn't turn into Aether...
