I watched "Stalker" out of curiosity at a very late nighttime. When the film was done it was already almost 2am, I didn't really understand the film when it ended. I went to bed and laid down. I wanted to turn the light off, I was staring at the ceiling. I couldn't reach out to the light switch to turn the light off and get some rest. I was staring at the ceiling with so many things going through my mind. The film hit me late, the scenes kept popping up in my head. It was almost 4am when I finally fell asleep, and when I woke up at 8am, I didn't feel like I even slept but I didn't feel tired neither. I just felt an emptiness, a different void in me and I don't know what was.

The best review of Stalker that I've ever read:
"...throughout the entire film, you will likely feel that the plot is relentlessly drawn out,
    unnecessarily stretched, and never-ending.
It's possible that you will be bored to death for the entire 172 minutes.
    You might even fall asleep.
    But you will never forget."

"In all of my films, it seemed important to me to remind the audience to the fact that they are not alone, lost in an empty universe, but they are connected by innumerable threads with their past and present, that through certain mystical ways, every human being realizes the rapport with the world and the life of humanity."

Along with Kubrick, Tarkovsky is clearly my favorite film artist ever. His shots are often deep, mystical and so naturally composed to influence and act as a balm to our soul. “Intimacy”, I can't find another word that describes better Tarkovsky's cinematographic style in such detail. His scenes are serene, soft, silent, he offers you the opportunity to contemplate the beauty of his art at your own pace, without the need to mark an obvious focal point that forces your gaze to focus on something specific. The music is organic, alive, sounds that awaken a certain nostalgia in us, even if it is the first time we have heard them.
The aim of Tarkovsky’s work is transmitting the fact that it’s important that despite not receiving answers to our existential questions, it is vital that we choose to believe: choose to believe that our actions have meaning; that there are causes worth fighting for; that our love, feelings, memories, ideas, everything matters. It is important to step forward and believe in something capable of dominating our ego, our grandiosity, our arrogance, be it the awesome force of the corpulent universe or the image of a divine deity. As long as it serves to make us feel a certain humility, to emphasize that no one enjoys the absolute truth, and, perhaps above all, to allow us to contemplate the implications of the unknowable.

I always like Tarkovsky no speech scene. It is really different. Most of films now rely too much on dialogue.

Movies was my obsession for a decades... I understood it as the art of century... I tried to understand the world and life, also through the stories on the big screen... And finally, when I founded the Truth, art of cinema remind beautiful part of my life. And there is a "Holly Trinity" of 20 century Film Art, by my experience... Andrei Tarkovskij, Ingmar Bergman and Akiro Kurosawa... No-one had such a mind-blowing impact on the art film world, to change understanding, what possibilities the artistic Film could have... The closest fourth game changer is, in my opinion, John Huston... Just my opinion...

How many of you have noticed that the Russian Director ended his career with the same scene he had started it with? That's Andrei Tarkovsky, the greatest filmmaker ever lived.

Thanks to the gods. That's why Olympos is made by. No people, no fake gods is allowed. Rest in peace, Tarkovsky. Beyond all of the bullshit of the state and people, you just happened. We are trying to keep the fire on, keep the light on.

Tarkovsky's films have been central in my life since I discovered them in the early 90's when I first saw The Mirror and Andrei Rubilev. I lack the adequate language to express my feelings in regard to what he has meant to me, suffice to say that I have just completed a science fiction/children's adventure film that is partly inspired by Tarkovsky's Stalker. Andrei lives on in all who have soaked in his visions and let them back out through what we as artists create.
