- How do you go from awesome, to awesome-er? This client already had a very nice aftermarket system installed in his Toyota 4Runner and wanted to refresh and update it. I went with some Class AB Helix amps, DSP and built some custom kick panels.
Thanks for watching!

Probably the best car audio fabrication video I have ever watched on RUclips. I've watched a lot. Especially lately since I've been working on my own system. Congrats. You got a follow.
Thanks! That means a lot after how long it takes to make these!
I've watched a few (LOL) car audio install videos in my time.
I now have an example of what a "high end fabrication" video should be.
From the narration to the work flow to even the music picked for each scene, just like your fab work, your video is a master class in what others should be.
Thank you for the two works of art....
The audio system itself, and this beautiful video that I have now watched twice!
Wow, thanks Justin! I'm always trying to make them a little better! I snuck a few original tracks in there on this one, ha ha!
Top tier production value, top tier sound system
Wow, the result was amazing Sir and I enjoyed every minute of it. Of course I had to subscribe!
Thanks!
Justin murphy brought me here- Shot out to all the good people in the SQ world
Told you it was a good video!
It's almost like watching a masterclass. Dan gives so much construction info. I'll learn something new every time I watch his videos.
You sir are a true artist.
Thanks Keith!
Dan and team did my 4Runner when they were in Texas. We did a false floor in the back removing the 3rd row.
Dan is easy to work with and listens to your needs. If you want a nice system go see him.
@@continentaltt4975 the good old days!
background music is too loud
noted!
Great stuff.
Thanks!
Dan amazing work as always. Love the kick panels - they look amazing. Killer work my friend ❤❤
What was the white powder you added to body filler?
Mr Cruz wants his brush back. He’ll swap his Yeezy collection for it ;) 😂😂😂
Thanks Clint! That's silica thickener. It thickens up fiberglass resin and fillers to get different consistencies. And Mr. Cruz can have his brush back any time! He just has to come visit his friend up here in the high country!
Awesome work and video.... 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video very professional awesome.
Thanks!
I have a fifth gen, four runner getting ready to put a system in there.I really love how you did the mid bass kick panels! How much would you charge to do a kick panel Very similar to that in the same vehicle? I'm using a morel mw9
Send me an email and I can take a look at what you've got! DanVUngaro@gmail.com
More projects, more videos, please :-)
You got it! I've got plenty on tape to edit!
I did not think kicks were possible in this gen 4runner….now I want to see a front sub done
I haven't done a front sub in a while, but a lot of competitors in my area have them.
@ in this generation 4runner? Ive been trying to search forums of people who have done them in 5th gen. Theres a weird hump on the pass footwell by the trans tunnel and the blower hangs pretty low
Every inch of space was needed for these. I found that out when I saw he didn't remove the speakers during install. Just one inch or a half an inch here and movement probably ran into a bump or piece of metal.
Man, too bad you weren’t in the Phoenix area. Looking to do a rebuild on my 2019 Ram 1500. Currently 2-way passive, going 3-way active with a 10” shallow footwell front sub. Hertz Mille Legend front stage.
Hey! Southwest has direct flights from the Springs now! What better way to break in a system than a road trip home, right?
fuck yeah beautiful job!
Thanks!
Most important is forgotten. Speaker aiming!
It's always a balance of speaker placement and acoustic value. In this case, with these speakers, 80hz to 300hz is pretty easy to correct with the DSP. Competitors are willing to give up more space and sacrifice cosmetics, where most of my clients are enthusiasts who daily drive these cars.
Impressive kick panel build!
I thought Mosconi amps were kind of the gold standard...but Helix is an upgrade? 🤯
Both brands definitely belong in a class together at the high end and I've worked extensively with each. I considered the amplification to be a "flavor" change. The main
upgrades were in processing, kick panels and tuning.
This is the first video I’ve watched of IB kicks without cutting the wheel wells. How do you determine if there is enough “space” for the mounting method used here?
The space was about fitting them in there without losing too much foot room. In the past, I've cut the metal in the kicks to flush the speakers deeper inside. There are benefits to doing that, but we wanted to avoid cutting in this build.
Tremendous thank you, so the top of the baffle is open?
@@alexpaterson1075 Yes. I put some polyfil in there and the baffle extends as high up as possible. The key is to keep the front and back waves of the speaker from interacting.
I gotta step my game up for a real system one day
You're always stepping up, my friend!
Also....
Do you have a link for the HAT 8.5 you're using up front?
Gotcha covered: hybrid.audio/product/legatia-l8v2/
@@SoundscapeCarAudio1
Thank you!
I thought this was the model you linked but I'm sure others will like having the link here as well.
What made you decide to go with the dust cap version versus the phase pole?
I have a lot of respect for Hybrid Audio Technologies. I was involved with bringing Betty back in 2018/19.
You definitely do them justice!
Not a singel before-after measurement too show the improvement? Show us the reults of all the work!
Doesn't mather what it locks like, we cant see / "hear" the difference.
How did the midbass improve compared to what is was?
I use the RTA to get to a certain point in the tuning, then it's adjusted by ear unless there's an issue. I fine tune with the client to dial it in to their taste. At that point I don't care what the RTA says, so why measure it? I hear what you're saying, and I see a lot of people posting measurements but I feel the results are more qualitative than that.
I am a soundscape architect. Love your name. Nice video! Feel free to reach out to me if you want to try 3D printing happy to share with you so you can print and try for your channel.
That’s really cool! I’ll definitely keep that in mind.
Background music blows! Otherwise great video
