RAF Gan Maldives

Gan on Addu Atoll is a coral island in the Maldives, of the 1198 islands in the chain, Gan is the southernmost, 41 miles south of the equator in the Indian Ocean. There was a military base here in WW2 but was surveyed and rebuilt between 1956-60 and closed as an RAF transit base in 1976.
I am indebted to Sergeant Geoff Battersbee who passed these photos to me several years ago, I was only on the island in 1959 for a short period, Geoff and I worked in the same section SASF
