You have to play from the first trails (trail in the sky) series and just keep going. It all comes together in the long run. The games at times are concurrent with eachother in the timeline so you'll hear a lot of references from each of the games about their politics and what's going on with the other countries Edit: there are 12 trails games at the moment and they all connect in the grand scheme of things
So that's 6 * 50h = 300h (12.5 days) until a heartbreak, then. Considering the average relationship (the usual source of heartbreaks) lasts for 2 years and 9 months before coming to an end, 300h is pretty quick.
They red-conned the story a little on shadowbringers but it was still amazing! Endwalker starts horrible, then ending was pretty good, but it wrecked the continuation of the story really bad.
Literally if anybody says that they weren’t heartbroken or sobbing when (iykyk) happened in Heavensward I can’t relate to them on a deep emotional level lol

The part where you said "oh this is kinda interesting" and the Heavensward clip of you and the gang around the campfire was the EXACT moment I got addicted to this! FFXIV was my first mmo and loved my time with it the past 3 years.
I had a lot of sad moments up to Shadowbringers. Then when I finished shadowbringers and finished patch 5.3. I was completely broken emotionally. Then endwalker just walks up when I’m recovering and rips my beating heart out of my chest. It was next level storytelling. Absolutely next level.
As someone who made to the end of Endwalker’s main story: can confirm my heart was broken several times between it and Shadowbringers. Along with an unyielding rage that would make a Barbarian blush.
I recently created an account on the trial and indeed going through ARR is a bit rough, 70hrs in (20hrs of Character Customisation) and I still feel like Heavensward is so far away. Still I am going to keep trucking until I at least finish the trial content and make a decision on purchasing from there.
Yeah, ARR is brutal. I would have absolutely dropped out if I didn't have friends playing with me. Actually the really bad part is the post-ARR patch quest series, which is what really kills people. It is the longest, dullest patch series in the game, but you are rewarded with a spike in excitement and general quality the second it ends. It is almost jarring how fast HW gets better.
ARR is what feels like the longest part. A lot of dungeons have been revamped as well. I've been playing for just over a year now, so I may be biased when I say you should get it. The savage tier raids are kinda hectic if that's what you wanna do. I'm not that good yet.
@@THB192 I don't get this. Maybe before they trimmed it down but for me it was really interesting. They don't make you wait a lot for the new primal fights (which pretty much was what keeps people going through ARR) new interedting factions get introfuced and their struggles bring depth to the city states and allow to kick off politicql intrigue that builds up and culminates into one of the most memorable events of the game. Aymeric gets introduced, and the true main character Hoary Boulder does stuff. Not to mention at this point the game opens up some and not only an you just do some actually worthwhile side content if you are a bit sick of the MSQ, but also flying is unlocked in all ARR zones so the most fetch-y type quests are done in a jiffy

Just did level 84-85 endwalker content for the first time, by the end of that sequence I was so worn down that I was actually weeping over a video game. 10/10
No joke that scene with Hraesvalgr and Nidhogg fighting was the moment I started enjoying the game more. My issue is that i was playing with friends who were just rushing to endgame (Typical WoW players) and so i was trying to keep up with them skipping cutscenes mostly. Then i got up to that point and was like "Wait a second this shit is cool. There's two dragons fighting in the sky. How is that not cool?" Which retroactively made me go back to do the ARR story, learn about what i missed, learn more thoroughly about Heavenward and man now I've got 4500 hours in the game
It's a final fantasy tradition to break your heart. They just took longer with FF14. It's obvious you never grew up playing FF6, left crying on the floor while on the island and forever scared so you can't listen to that opera with out shedding a tear. Heartbreak! That's nothing new for Final Fantasy!

Sidequests even in ARR were already breaking my heart. I was in love with this game pretty fast. Faster than is common from what I hear lol. I'm almost at Endwalker now. Im a decently slow player, been playing just over a year now I think? I do EVERY sidequest, and talk to any npc I can between every quest dialogue moment. They change almost every time btw haha. And I love it. The world feels so full. Shamani Lohmani is one of my favorites. He's the Lalafell vinter in Wineport. These sidequests will bring you back to older sidequests in ways you never would've thought (Shamani is connected to a sidequest in the StB alliance raids, which gets you the 'Lord/Lady of the Fetch' title for example). Especially if you do them as you do MSQ and not all at once later. You revisit some after a long while. Makes me truly feel like a hero of the world, and like I earned the reputation. That everyone knows me, quite literally because I've helped almost everyone everywhere I go. It's very fun from an rp perspective 😂 I recommend the experience, though it may be hard if you're already a veteran player, as this is NOT an alt-friendly game. You'd basically be doing those 100s of hours of unlocking and questing AGAIN on top of added sidequests. But anyways, this went longer than I meant for it too. TLDR: love this game.
Idk man, I got to the Silver Bazaar like 10 quests in where the main problem was that merchant tycoons had started fishing in the area and were taking all the commerce, weakening the towns stability and opening the Bazaar up to be bought out and gentrified by those same tycoons and I was being asked by the most stalwart local resident to help find evidence to refute or deflect claims of soem kind of falisfied problem that would give the tycoons enough excuse to buy out the rest of the bazaar by force and I was pretty hooked right there. I have tabs open to the wiki for Miqo'te naming conventions so that I can make lore accurate bread puns with my character names
I fell at the start of storm breaker after having played religiously for like 2 years. It’s so scary to think about coming back… and I don’t know what I have forgotten in the story
Aside from the disinterest in the beginning, i was invested from the start, you nailed it! FF14 is particularly vicious in Endwalker if you do alllll the side quests and you have to live with the idea of some of these npc you've come to love may have died.

The game mechanics, the interactions, the gaming community, the storyline, the game effects and graphics, multiple classes change. Side note: I DID BOT JNOW YOU WERE "ALLOWED" TO SWITCH BETWEEN CLASSES! INCLUDING CRAFTINGS. A friend of mine kind of laughed at me (cos he played it before I did), and actually tutored me when I was a male Horthgar Gladiator and then suddenly my mind blew up on the revelation on class switching! I ended up trying to level up almost all my classes for dopamine sake and I dint regret it at all! I love this game for saving my love for MMORPGS!!!❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
You can play the free trial for like 300-500 hours completely for free on a new account...literally every job/class in the game up to Stormblood, content up to patch 4.55, and decide if you want to buy the game at ANY point in those hundreds of hours. Just give it a shot, enjoy the game and don't think at all about what comes "later". Thats the easiest way for people to hate the game, too many say "it gets good at *insert time here*" to new players or people looking to get into it, and that creates an unnecessary stigma surrounding the game, and turns opinions into an echo chamber. There is so much to love about FFXIV especially if you like Final Fantasy in the first place. Its the 3rd MMO I've ever gotten completely hooked on and played so seriously
The starting area took double digit hours to get through and I was so bored. I would love to play with my friends but I was just too bored to power through it 😔
That may have been your experience my experience was I spent the first 10 or 12 minutes of the game listening to two characters fucking talk and then I hit delete
For me, I started off kinda loving it but sometimes hating it. Then I finished ARR, and sooner or later I decided this was my new home and I now have 16k hours of playtime.
Any game that can make me openly sob from both joy and sorrow is worth the time investment.

They take a sledge hammer to your heart in heavensward, and afterwards they keep finding new ways to break it more.
For me, I started off kinda loving it but sometimes hating it.
Then I finished ARR, and sooner or later I decided this was my new home and I now have 16k hours of playtime.
As a WoW player I have to agree with this, it hits you with the feels...
Man it broke my heart way before Endwalker. The Bloody Banquet, and then poor, poor Harchefaunt 😭😭
Then you get to endgame and realize Endwalker is the most barebones of all the expansions.
My heart got broken too when I finally caught up to 6.3 msq

I reached Shadowbringers when Lockdown started and that was a very time.
for me I was hook after the Ifrit fight i loved hot it looked and it made me want more
