- Nearly all species of sea turtles are endangered, but Tortuguero, a small island on the eastern coast of Costa Rica, offers a safe place for nesting green and leatherback sea turtles. It was here in 1959 that Dr. Archie Carr opened the world's first turtle conservancy. To this day, the island is one of the world's most important breeding grounds for these turtles. We made the arduous journey there to watch the next generation hit the waves. Go baby sea turtles, go!

CES 253 John cenas mom
people even make them soups in can R.I.P baby sea turtles
I’m currently saving a sea turtle and have my own tracking bracelet
Just as a quick question.. if only 80% usually make it out of the nests. Couldn't the team help protect from predators and even help them all the the water?
Or is that not the goal?
Just wondered that's all x
They mostly hatch during the night and there are 26.000 nests this year in the 4 month season. There is just not enough people and time to do that. And it is impossible to tell at what exact time the hatchlings will go out. Also it is probably better to keep everything as natural as possible
Micheal reeves is going to go to that island....
Yay
it's good yall keeping green sea turtles safe
Who directs these videos Wes Anderson?
The tiny floppy baby turtles are so damn cute :3
Couldn't they place the babies into pools so they could grow bigger and stronger before realising them into the ocean????...
There are 26.000 nest this year in tortuguero, they contain ~2.600.000 eggs and it takes years for the green sea turtle to grow. It is impossible to do that for all(or even a fraction) of the turtles there. Besides you dont want to intervene with nature too much. If you would put them in swimming pools it is really helpfull in the short term, but if you stop doing that, the numbers will drop really fast again because you did not provide a long term solution.
Great video! I love conservationists with marvelous senses of humor!

oWo they're so smol and cute!
I SHOULD BE GOING TO SCHOOL
Costa Rican here, Tortuguero is not an island. That is really clear so I don´t think it´s a mistake but a way to make the story more intersting, but great video still!
Gabriel Fernandez Costa Rican here too, I can confirm this.
Mae al chile, no creo que no investigaron mucho la vara, pero no me quejo xD
There's a reason they lay so many eggs. I agree they shouldn't be pouched but other than that, don't ef with Mother Nature. Always an unintended consequence.
*WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS TOO CUTE. WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK!*
Yes I copied another comment lol
Great vid!
🌊🐢 I would love to work with sea turtles 🐢 🌊
this film almost had a Wes Anderson feel to it
That's because it is almost an exact stylistic replica of Anderson's "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"
I just watched the movie, thank you
