“You don’t have to know anything at all to watch this movie” is actually genius promotion. Most people stopped following the different universes a while back
I never got into them. I don't want to waste time and money on superhero silliness. But for Dakota I would go see it. Just like Fifty Shades of Grey. My take? "It was a dumb movie but Dakota Johnson (and Kim Basinger!) was in it".
She just happened to drop in on a very emotional time for all the regulars. It’s understandable that they were not as welcoming to a day player, they had a whole lot of other things on their minds, saying goodbye after so many years together. But I get it could have been not fun for her,
@@samfilmkid If I had to take a guess: Ed Helms repeatedly leaving the show to be in the Hangover movies, along with Rainn Wilson not getting that Schrute Farm spin-off may have contributed to things being tense. It also could have just been everyone was in a sad mood because the show was ending, and they were all going to lose a steady job. So I'd imagine it would kind of rub them the wrong way if some bubbly twentysomething started filming with them while they were going through it.
To clarify, Madame Web IS in the general spider-verse (in the comics she is an old lady when Peter Parker meets her), I believe what Dakota means here is that the script was not written with the intention of having the story fit in with anything currently going on in the spider-verse films. It's happening in a bubble.
Yeah, for people who are interested in this sort of stuff, it's in the same universe as the other "Sony in Association with Marvel" movies which they call the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Right now, that means the same universe as Venom, Venom 2 and Morbius. This movie is mostly set in 2003 though, before the events of the other SSU movies. That said, it's not a prequel either, it just exists in the universe. The SSU doesn't have the greatest reputation already and Sony's marketing seems to be leaning away from that angle for this movie--cynics might say they're concerned either that the SSU will harm the movie's brand or the other way around. It's very possible the cast out on the promotional circuit (like Johnson here) have been asked to de-emphasize the cinematic universe concept and just pitch it as a standalone movie, because as @ferntella says, the plot of this movie is not connected to any of the previous ones.
In every interview of Dakota, the host is such a fangirl for her. Mind you, I don't blame them at all; I'd be beside myself if I got to hang out with her for a few minutes.
Wasn't she also the person who called out Jimmy Fallon w/ the famously ''Can i speak?'' after his annoying non-stop fake laughing & talking over the guests thingy?
I have never admired Seth's interviewing prowess as much as I do right now. His ability to key into the humor and energy of each and every guest--even when it's kind of offbeat and dry, like Dakota's--is really unmatched by any other late night host currently on air. You can watch Dakota getting more and more comfortable as the interview progresses. I feel like every one of Seth's riffs with Dakota would have been an awkward pause from any other host.
Madame Web first appeared in the Amazing Spider-Man comics. So it’s very much not a stand alone universe. This movie might not have integrated the stories yet. But she’s a Spider-Man character.

That’s her take on it. She might have misread the energy. You just show up for a guest role on the very last episode of a show that lasted 11 years… it’s very likely people will have something else on their mind than being extra welcoming and friendly to the « new » people. They’d be forgiven for feeling a little off. That’s how I’d understand it. Maybe she was too immature at the time to get that.
