Excellent, well done. I’m doing a full restoration on a 1984 excel, it’s taking forever

Thanks a lot for this series - helps me to consider if I want to buy an Excel. I guess even if I buy a better donor car in the end it will be a full restoration anyway !! I would be very interested to learn more about the time and money you invested in this project !! All the best !

Hi Roger, thanks for your interest... I have been at it for about 2 years, working mostly some weekends. I paid €5500 for the car, it was a non-runner and I reckon I have spent around €3000 on parts up to now.

@@neildonaldsonlotusexcelresto Hi Neil, thanks for this information ! I am currently looking for an Excel which I can gradually upgrade like you did it with yours. I was wondering if it makes sense to spend a bit more for a decent donor car but I guess in the end it will be a total restauration anyway.

@@RogerHaefele Hi Roger, you're asking the wrong person about donor cars as I think they should all be restored 🙂. Most parts are available for these cars.

If you need to get new bulbs for the interior lights, I'd strongly recommend LEDs. Brighter, more reliable, draw less current, and they are not expensive. I've been working gradually round and now replaced almost all bulbs with LEDs, other than front headlights and fog lights.
