Unraveling the Myths: Is Jalen Williams a Star in the Making?

  • Jalen Williams is even better than you think. The OKC Thunder have been on fire lately, and a large part of their success has been the breakout second season that Jalen Williams has been having. Not only is he the perfect compliment alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren, he's been so good that the Oklahoma City Thunder have been using him as a microwave scorer to try and bury teams in fourth quarters.
A lot of people have had this misconception about JDub that he's just a role player, supporting cast type of player, but the truth is that Jalen Williams is so much better than that label would lead you to believe, and just because he's capable of blending on-ball and off-ball responsibilities, doesn't mean he doesn't have future star written all over him.
The no. 12 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft might just eclipse all expectations, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are looking scary because of it.

Maybe under. Front court voting is loaded with talent, and he might be best as a 2nd or high-tier 3rd option. Depends on if he’s traded to a worse team where he can average ~25/7/5.

JDub is who Lakers fans THINK Austin Reeves is. A great playmaker, clutch shooter, can defend well... and he's getting more and more touches now that OKC is starting to notice the limitations Josh Giddey keeps showing... so he's stepping up as the 2nd option behind Shai and above Chet.

This may be the dumbest comment on here Austin Reaves is by far a better playmaker clutch shooter than Jalen he averages more assists than him what are you blabbing about he only averages 3.7 more points than Austin when Austin is playing behind Lebron and ad vs Jalen with shai and Chet not the same 😂😂😂😂 just stop it moron he has more freedom to do more than Austin can

Knew this was coming as soon as I saw the walter davis comparisons post on twitter. Jdub’s passing is one of his more underrated assets; he’s able to make lob passes, wraparound passes, and all this variety gives him an ability to keep defenses on their toes; and those lobs make 2 man game with chet is so effective. He’s probably improved more as a passer throughout his 1.5 years than shai has his entire nba tenure tbh.
Also elite wing helpside rim protector , his rotations and timing are great there.

Agreed the people who says he is just simply haven’t been watching the thunder this season Jdub in reality is the second option for that team and has been playing at sub all star level. In clutch situations there have been multiple times where the thunder have run plays where shai is the decoy and they actually give the ball to Jdub to let him create a shot off the dribble with a open side of the floor

I believe he deserves to be a all star reserve. A lot of great players get snubbed and screwed over on all star team based on bias legacies and their names. I think it should be based on stats no fan voting, because their names or status ques. Williams is gonna be better than half of biggest small forwards and a great defender, playmaker which Kawhi lacks in. He has put up better stats recently better than most small forwards argument for case why isn't he in all star game because of names and legacies not stats. They need to change way they pick all stars.

He works insanely well with Shai because 1) he can fill in his role when shai's on the bench, penetrating getting to the rim, passing out or mid ranging shooting; 2) he's a great catch and shoot 3pt shooter and even a lob threat, so he can finish plays by Shai; 3) he's already good defensively with great potential.
The best thing is Chet doesn't interfere with any of this. His offensive bag is different and he's also a great defender. OKC looks scary.
