    May I ask what situations did you feel the autofocus was better than the R5?

    • @lazsmith
      @lazsmith  Год назад +8

      The really obvious one is in backlit/low light scenarios. I had an R5 to test directly against the gfx and multiple times the gfx was able to find eye focus often 3-4 stops under whereas the R5 was unable to even get a lock on the eye at all

      This is what the answer I am waiting on. I tested the 100ii for 2 hours but in a shop environment and it did feel like it was on par with my CanonR5 but wasn't too sure. I have the gfx100s too but I kept my R5 just because the autofocus vs the gfx100s. Seems now I could let that go. 😊

    I’m so glad I found this video. I was on the fence with purchasing the GFX 100s vs the GFX 100 ii. I was brought here from your other video, and your insights helped seal my decision on the 100 ii. I was brought here from your “Should I Upgrade Video.” Cheers from Las Vegas, NV.

    Wooh what a great video, from someone doing actual work.
    I’m quite amazed by your feedback about AF performance. Any chance we have a more in-depth video about that? I would be nice to see it in action, maybe with a gopro attached or something?
    I’m surprised you didn’t mention the 1x magnification of the EVF, the image must be huge!
    I’ll probably test the camera myself soon.
    (I obviously subscribe in the hope you also release some videos, not only about reviews but maybe also about your work)

    • @lazsmith
      @lazsmith  Год назад +3

      I did kinda of glaze over the fact that the EVF is absolutely stellar. It really has to be seen to be believed just how clear it is.
      I can definitely do a video on the autofocus, I might try and use a Ninja monitor to record the screen to really show you how good it is in real time. Thanks for the great feedback! Appreciate you watching

    I was tempted by this camera but I was probably one of the few people that didn't like the EVF. I don't like a big EVF sticking out from the camera. It makes it impractical putting it in the bag you bump your nose on it I actually like have my eye up against the viewfinder close to the camera almost side of my cheek touching the camera. That's just how I shoot, so this is a reason why I didn't buy this camera so I waited for the second model the GFX 100s ii which bath video has the same features but I don't do video much anyway and if I do, I just use a crop sensor camera that I have in my Fiji lineup that shoots 4K

    What kind of computer do you have for Capture One? I have a MacBook Pro M1 Max 64GB memory. But editing these 100mp images is so extremely slow. When I move the exposure sliders, for example, I sometimes see the effects very delayed, sometimes not at all.

    Bros I made the mistake of shooting with the x2d. A7rv user. Was really hard to get used to but the images are so rewarding. Now here we are. Man… we might all be moving medium format. I think all my glass and camera might be be able to get me a body and lens. Seriously thinking about it.

    • @lazsmith
      @lazsmith  Год назад +1

      Ha it's always a terrible idea to shoot with a camera like the GFX or Hasselblads. I made the switch and I don't regret it one bit, however I am a working professional who gets a big return from my gear so as a hobbyist I can see that it would be very hard to justify the jump.
      The sony is a great camera, I guess it comes down to what really inspires you to get out there and create, and for me Fujifilm does that!

    • @Maxime-ho9iv
      @Maxime-ho9iv Год назад +1

      The issue with the X2D is that it can’t focus really. The damn thing is just too slow.

    • @Mattrossphoto
      @Mattrossphoto Год назад

      @@Maxime-ho9iv the newer lenses are better, and as an a7rv guy I get that. Having to touch focus, I feel like I’m never really nailing composition in camera. That being said I was blown away with the richness, now whenever I’m editing I get bummed how much quicker I arrive to pixel level than with the hassy

    Why make such a big thing of some film simulation (not just this review)? Should be possible to create a preset in LR that works similar and who buys such an advanced camera and shoots jpeg?

    • @lazsmith
      @lazsmith  Год назад

      Part of the reason I moved from Canon to Fujifilm was the film silmulations. I used to shoot a lot of film & digital when shooting fashion campaigns, and it was a crazy workflow. I LOVE film and I love the nostalgia and the process involved with shooting it, but I also realise it won't be around forever.
      With these film simulations, it enables me to basically create a "film stock" in the camera and then go out and shoot as I see it and not have to edit it afterwards. There is something really pure about shooting this way for me.
      So yes, I need to shoot raw 95% of the time due to the commercial nature of what I'm doing, but when I'm just shooting for me, I'd much rather shoot to JPG but with the amazing image quality and dynamic range of a camera like the GFX 100 II.
      Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate you taking the time to ask the hard questions!

  • @BrendanEvan
    @BrendanEvan Год назад

    Do we dare ask: medium format for sports??

    • @lazsmith
      @lazsmith  Год назад

      Well, they used to shoot formula 1 and other sports with film cameras, so I’d say absolutely. Then again, I’d happily make concessions for image quality so it’s an easy choice for me. Others may prioritise workflow more or whatever they deem is most important, hence why we have people being super negative about this camera regardless.
      The fact we live in the age where a camera like this exists is just crazy in itself. I’m seriously doing the maths on switching my video workflow across as well

      As a GFX100s user, the differences are hard to ignore. Sure, our current cameras would suffice for most things, but the speed makes a HUGE difference to how versatile this camera now is

  • @alexiskobalt7450
    @alexiskobalt7450 Год назад

    You forgot to add: "Just kidding!" after #5. The rolling shutter (both 8K and 4K) is atrocious. Yes, not everyone will be doing swish pans, but the camera won't be locked off either. (Gordon Laing did a useful test of this, in case anyone is interested: ruclips.net/video/x7FYQuCIu-E/видео.html ) Also, you talk about selling your REDs, but you'll miss shooting in RAW??? The 100 II has external RAW. The irony is that the kludgy video upgrade is the reason I am on the fence about upgrading from my 100s.

    • @lazsmith
      @lazsmith  Год назад

      Ha - I honestly didn’t notice any rolling shutter issues in my tests, although I don’t do a lot of fast pans etc. @vistek did a really great comprehensive review and he actually said the rolling shutter was almost on par with the x-h2s!
      The external raw is always a bit sketchy for me, I’d prefer internal so we don’t get cable/connection issues. The least point of failures the better, especially with video for me
      Thanks for the feedback though! Very fair comments!

    • @alexiskobalt7450
      @alexiskobalt7450 Год назад

      @@lazsmith Yeah, I watched the vistek video, too, before first posting. His point wasn't so much that the GFX100 II had great rolling shutter, but that it was only a bit worse than the X2-HS. But, to be fair to Fujifilm, not everyone is comparing oranges to oranges. Shooting 8K in GF mode is using more pixels than 8K in 35mm mode. The former will have significantly more jello than the latter. I eagerly look forward to some 'tuber doing comprehensive comparisons.
      As for internal vs external RAW, I completely agree with you. But shooting anamorphic without an external monitor/recorder would be a new headache. Good to have options. Horses for courses.

    • @Maxime-ho9iv
      @Maxime-ho9iv Год назад +1

      It all comes down on wether you’re doing video or video aside photography.
      If your work is video, then I’m pretty sure this camera is not for you, and you probably already know that and never considered it in the first place.
      On the other hand, if you’re a photographer shooting some clips, I guess that’s nice financial optimization right here :)
