Also on the location issue.(Movie theatre) Your test is not fair across the board. Searchgpt is using any info from your account. Perplexity can do this as well but you need to explicitly give that info in your settings. As far as Google if you are logged in, you will get better results.

It makes NO sense to "ignore" the AI Overview @6:23... do you ignore the AI from the other 2? If they "have" the feature, and it only requires you to keep on, then ignoring it is very unfair. Such an artificial barrier created. It does AI search... you can't just "ignore" it because you want to make 2 other engines look better.
Nevertheless, it is cool to see some of the different AI search engines out there. I ran the same question in 4o, and it gave pretty much the same results for ip question.

    • @Poweruser75
      @Poweruser75 23 дня назад

I was just thinking about something similar because I've noticed that a lot of major brands right now have a search engine that can use AI to search the internet and give relevant results. At the moment and for a little while I've been using brave browser and they, not long ago, added the, search with AI feature right beside the search bar. I think Google Gemini is doing this iPhone is doing this Even Microsoft edge has this. There has been quite a lot of talk about how Google is going to get taken down because of AI search when the user I'm responding to just commented about how easy it would be for Google to just either add the feature so it's there all the time when you search or do like brave browser and just have a button sitting there if you want to get an answer with AI and AI search results. Google isn't going anywhere right now because one can't even use the search engines in this video without being subscribed to a club for the monies. So most people aren't even using it, they're still using Google or other regular search engines they've been using all along but now with added features of AI so what's the point in going over to these other, "new", search engines when their current search engine is facilitating the same thing? Some people have hyped up this AI search thing like it's going to take down Google tomorrow and after tomorrow there's just going to be no more Google. That is preposterous. The only thing this is doing is getting clicks and comments and reactions from people which is what the RUclips algorithm loves and is all about. It's controversy. Someone hears Google is in trouble or Google is on the verge of getting taken out and everybody in there Mama's uncle is going to tune in to find out how.
Miss reminds me of a video I seen last night for a couple of seconds because I quickly realized what it was but anyways, the title had something to do with a guy named Derek from vise grip garage here on RUclips and the title was something about Derek getting exposed. The only reason why I clicked on the link to see what it was all about is because I have seen hundreds of disguise videos and I have not got nothing but the most genuine reactions and content from this person. He is very engaging, funny, smart and an overall great entertainer. He knows his craft inside and out and teaches along the way with every step and every screw nut and bolt but anyway. The title was misleading because there is no dirt on Derek. there is no scandal. The video just went on to talk a little bit about Derek's life how he got started on RUclips and how he has expanded into a few other channels along with one of his son's channels.
We live in very slimy times where people will slant a title just to get a click because they can't come up with a genuine title and let it be because they don't think that would garner enough attention so they have to be dishonest and misleading using trickery to get people to click. It's kind of disgusting what people are willing to do. I think this is some of the reason why comments on RUclips are so Kurt and crappy sometimes. It starts to make a person numb to it all when they're fed nothing but deceit and lies from regular people claiming to just be trying to make it. It's like the restore videos on here. Some of these people are so hard up they are fabricating the whole thing. These people will make something look like it came out of a landfill after they just walked out of Walmart from purchasing the item just to make a restore video because they can't find anything to do legitimately or they can't do it at all, the right way. I mean, what do you do when you run out of landfill looking stuff that can actually be repaired? I guess you fake it till you make it 😂

I've been testing SearchGPT for a week, and it's a solid beta. Like you said, the key challenge is knowing when to use an LLM, AI Search, or traditional search based on the query. It's like the early days of search engines, where people switched between different search engines based on needs, preferences, and performance. Once AI search improves, it'll be as ubiquitous as Google.

Well, he did kinda skip over the fact that Google already added AI search as well, at the top. And it felt like a silly thing to do. Like "oh yeah google also has AI search, but if we pretend its not there, then it's worse than AI search". Like.. wat? The thing is that Google still has a lot behind them. All these perplexity and searchGPT things are also powered by some more traditional search engines in the backend. And it's even likely that they are using Google's search in the backend, or maybe Bing or something, depends on what deal they have. And then process results with AI and pull relevant info. Maybe with some caching. I kinda doubt they made their own crawlers. Crawling the entire web and storing and caching results is not an easy or cheap task to do at such scale. So I seriously doubt that they went for it.
Plus google does have their own great AI models. So I think Google search is not going anywhere. It just adds AI and gets better is all.

Google has 1 thing going for it: Google Maps. Google owns Maps and Waze. The only viable alternative is Bing maps. The other competitors (Open Street Maps and related apps, Mapquest, and Apple Maps) have downsides. Apple Maps has live turn-by-turn navigation but it is only available with the app which is locked to Apple devices. OSM and Mapquest have apps but their maps (particularly the locations of businesses) are often out of date and do not offer live traffic.

SEO-Expert here. I haven't tested Search GPT yet, but my opinion is, that Search GPT might have an upper hand when it comes to customization. ChatGPT does an outstanding job by providing users the option to add additional information to our backgrounds, expertise or information we expect. But I think Google has the upper hand when it comes to understanding the search intention behind the query. Probably mostly because of all the user data to all the queries, they might have collected for so many years. The Image Sidebar is a good example of this. If the user doesn't need this kind of information, Google will usually not show this piece of information.
You can only deliver the best results if you understand which kind of answer / information the user expects.

    • @threepe0
      @threepe0 22 дня назад +1

That is only true when the user history is relevant, and sometimes you specifically do not want user history interfering with what results are given.
Also, you can use an llm to search using the google apis if you want history correlated.
Different tools for different use cases I think.
Lastly, the relevant user information that can fuel some surprisingly good results can be built up pretty quickly. I think diminishing returns sets in pretty quickly once you get past basic interests and high level demographics

  • @ghostlevelzero7446

The thing about AI search is that you can just talk to the AI. I recently asked: "there's a kind of flooring transition specific to exterior doors. it goes immediately underneath the door but isn't weather stripping. what is this called?" Perplexity answered, and I said, "I'm putting in new flooring, and need to put it underneath the threshold. this threshold seems to be metal with a rubber strip in the middle. can you either tell me how to remove it or point me to videos that show how to?" Got a great answer, and finished my floors. Google would have been pretty useless for something like this.

I don’t understand why this is any better than just vanilla chatGPT queries? Aside from the UI presentation just slightly different.
Gives me similar vibes to the chatGPT plugins that were briefly hyped last year as ‘the new app store’ and quickly faded into obscurity.

I thought so too and then I started using perplexity. It is like asking an intern to do some research on a topic and get back to you, but it does look at 15-20 websites and summarizes in 15 seconds or so. Not always perfect but leaves sources most of the time, and you can follow up w different questions.

One thing to take on consideration: If you don't show the links to the websites, you'll kill the internet. (Why should I do a website if I have no visits?) If you kill the internet, there will be no more new content made online and you kill the whole purpose of online search. So they MUST continue to show links in the results (if not it's not a search anyway). Until we're all replaced by AI and there is no need to make new content online...

As an Aussie, pronunciation of Melbourne is "Melbin" - it's very British in a way, the second syllable is greatly shortened. In fact, as an American, you may extend the 'i' in Melbin, so from an American's perspective, it would be more like "Melb-n", does that make sense? It's just I know a million Melbournians would make a big fuss about it, lol.

I like how they've kept it nice and minimalistic too, just as clean and simple to comprehend as ChatGPT.

    Booking...
Google can do bookings better because they have integrated an end-to-end travel provider like Sabre into their product line.
These APIs are expensive to use because of how they are licensed.
If Sabre (et al) were to make a deal with one of the AI makers to implement their API as tools/functions inexpensively, they could compete with Google in that space.

Very questionable that you didn't turn on Perplexity's "pro" feature when the button to do so was sitting right there. You're not allowing Perplexity to fully shine by doing that. If the version of SearchGPT that you were given access too here ends up being a paid service, then this comparison is entirely unfair to Perplexity.
Next time you don't use a key feature, please acknowledge why you haven't done so. A lack of transparency is not a good look.

Were there any specific features or interface elements that made one tool more intuitive or effective than the other? How did each tool handle complex and nuanced queries, especially those involving recent events or intricate technical details? Excellent review.
I started watching this thinking of the idea that more big businesses than Google - their core product is at risk of becoming irrelevant.
Then you mentioned booking a flight.
I spent a half dozen years doing database dev work with the travel industry data.
There is no way those folks are giving up their data. That is how they make money - because they control access to the data.
The booking/ticketing/(human) agent approach we use today will not exist in 5 years as 50k travel agents are converted to agentic software.
Kind of a sad nostalgic feeling as I have my coffee and listen...

Before iproute2 was in common use, you used different commands that were part of now-obsoleted net-tools. For instance, you could use `netstat` before, but that was replaced with the `ss` command. And instead of using the `arp` command, you now have to use `ip neighbor`. And you used to use `ifconfig` instead of newer commands like `ip address`. I don't know the exact timing off the top of my head, but I feel like iproute2 was being used in the early 2010s over net-tools.

I guess it depends what you're using search for, but IMO, when I search with Google, I DO want a simple list of links to sites. I want relevant links to sites. I DON’T want a huge blurb of text explaining the thing I'm searching for. If I want that, THEN I use ChatGPT. So both Perplexity and SearchGPT fail in this regard. I want an AI search that uses AI to serve up incredibly relevant / spot on results for my query.
