Awesome kitty there is something magical about this amazing fish, the river and the wild areas they thrive in it’s ALL part of the thrill! I’m old and as a young guy I remember catching it fishing for them when there was no hatcheries, if you want a trip that you will always remember go fish the tributaries in the Nass river! Heart in your throat experience my largest 26lbs I felt like crying after letting her go!! Very VERY deep emotional experience! 😊 wonderful video so happy for you and your Man!
You really posed the question. Why do we do it!? Standing in freezing cold water, casting over and over trying bait after bait fingers numb and barely moving. Why!? Because we love it! That first hit the rod straining against the force that tries to break it and us each time we enter their domain. That's the reason. It's Steelhead season! Great video Kitty, Dan and Rod. Well worth watching twice!! And yes, I'll watch it a few more times until I can gear up and like an old couple, complain about everything as I love every minute!.
Ahhhh thank you Beeps! Looking back over the 9 years of being an avid angler, it's truly the fish I have to thank. Without them I would have never dabbled in other aspects of the outdoors (shed hunting, foraging, hiking etc). This Earth is spectacular in so many different ways, and everything is so interconnected. It's fascinating, and I want to understand it all. Thanks again for watching, and I wish you many tight lines. KK
The tug is the drug. Seeing the silver flash through the water and you know what it is, then it rolls over and tosses the hook. I'm addicted to Steelhead fishing. I blame it on my big brother Bob ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Thanks for sharing.
That initial roll get my blood pumping too! Out of all the freshwater fish I've had a chance to wrestle, steelhead are hands down my favourite! They live in the most beautiful remote flows, and have such determination and spunk! It's because of them I have fallen so in love with the outdoors.
Very beautifully done Kitty. Honestly, I have been fishing BC rivers for over 25 years and would barely run out of fingers and toes to count the number of steelhead I have caught. I would for just about every other fresh water species, but Steelhead is easily the biggest challenge I face every year. That, I think, is the experience of many Steelhead fishers. This year so far I have had one hook up on the Vedder, but did not land. But the hours on the river, the long thoughtful walks, and the coffee over a warm fire ,makes it all worth while. Even better when you have a partner to fish with. You have been blessed with these experiences. Someday you can share them with your children.
That was so perfectly said, and I could not agree more. I wish I could easily articulate my thoughts and feelings towards the sport, and how much it has changed my life for the best. I think it's hard because my emotions are so big. Daniel's passion and energy was inspiring, and he fueled my desire to learn from day 1. Also, I witnessed how much joy angling brought him, and I wanted that more than anything in the world. Without a doubt, steelhead are the reason why I became so heavily smitten with the outdoors (shed hunting, fishing, foraging, hiking, prospecting etc.). Everything in this world is interconnected in some way, and I am here to embrace and learn about it all. Thanks for watching, and supporting. We appreciate you. ❤ KK

Great video. 👍 Hi My name Sebastien and I'm just getting back in Salmon fishing this year after 15 years. I'll be honest it wasn't easy to learn all the upside and down on how to catch Salmon at ghe vedder river. But lucky for me I found Rod on RUclips. I still hope one day to meet him in person and thank him myself....With his help I did catch 2 beautiful spring Shinook. After 3 months of practice and learning I am still not able to catch any Koho. Now that the winter is just around the corner I just found out that I can actually do some fishing in the winter in BC. Winter Steelhead. Now I have no Idea when or were will be the best time and location to try to catch one at the Vedder river but I'm ready to give it a try. If you have any suggestions please feel free to share them with me? I will continue to keep an eye out as well for any new video from Rod in this amazing therapy journey that I got myself back into it again... Thank you Seb.
Your videos make the stress melt away! I remember my first steelhead, it was on the Cowichan, it darted away, almost stripped me out of line and went around the corner, then came back just as fast! I managed to haul in the 10 lb fish on 5 lb line with no net! I was only hoping for a Rainbow, so it was definitely a surprise!
I'm a big fan of the Cowi, those steelhead are straight up savage!!!!!! Plus I love how the trout keep me entertained in between steelhead grabs. Any gold lately? I'm hoping to hook up with Paul in the next couple of weeks.
@@KittyKanhoffen KITTY! I saw 2 giant Morels when I was with Andy the other day! I SO wish you were there to say YES these are Morels! Wasn't going to take a chance without being sure. There's been a bit of gold lately, I just put out the vid from the first trip of the year! Can't wait to see you!
That was Beautiful Kitty, this story brought a tears to my eyes. My gf caught her first fish ever when I took her fishing and it was a 6 lb rainbow. Since then she has been hooked and have caught many in the 8 and 9 lb range. She even won a small fishing derby hosted by the first nation community where I lived. We would love to make it out to Vancouver Island sometime and see what it is like to catch steelhead out there.
Aweeh , Bruno! You're going to make me cry - it's certainly a feel good video. I'm still trying to figure out how Rod was able to showcase my "steelheading journey" (nearly 9 years) and pack it into 12 minutes. He did a fabulous job! Fingers crossed you make it out here at some point!
Awesome video. I need to take notes on how to pack so much content into 12 minutes. The way I edit that would have been a half hour for sure. There's a clothing brand in Vancouver called "Steelhead Struggle", certainly describes it well. I've been chasing them for 3 seasons now with mixed success, this year being by far the most difficult. I got to catch one with my daughter this year, so that was awesome, she's still chasing her first one.
I know right? Like how does one showcase someone's steelheading journey (nearly 9 years) and pack it all into 12 minutes. Rod is a beast! That clothing company sure hit the nail on the head. The struggle is real. There are moments where I feel like I am on top of the world, and other times the fish (especially steelhead) leave me completely exasperated. For whatever reason though, I keep on trucking despite all the "slumps." I think of it this way, a roller coaster wouldn't be fun if it was all up. It's the crazy drops (steelhead slumps) that keep us coming back. Cheers and tight lines Petr KK
At times, depending on the condition of the river clarity and weather and the pressure it could take days before you have luck, so I can't wait, when I retire I will have more time on my hands to hook into more steelhead and be able to travel to more locations and rivers and be patient.
I'll be honest, I think it has something to do with me. I feel like if I put in more effort promoting, it could grow faster... It's just challenging at times filming while full time teaching. Nevertheless, we are always thankful with the audience we have. You guys are like family to Rod and I. Thank you for your support William. ❤❤❤
It's a mentally tough fishery, alone with your thoughts for so many hours over so many runs with great water and hundreds of casts and going home tired and empty-handed, thinking 'what am I doing wrong?' If you're in a fishing rut it's tough to keep going back out there but we do.
That's the first question I ALWAYS ask Daniel as soon as a fish pops off and the spoon flies back at me. "What was I doing wrong????" Sometimes, he's able to give advice, and others the fish deserved to win!

HEEEEYYYYYY PAULY! I know, pumping out videos as been a little slow on my end. It makes the whole thing even harder when travel restrictions tighten. Who knows what doors will open up in the future. I'm always willing to take the opportunities that life brings my way. 😜Thanks for watching Grits and Glamour.
I don't let it get to me if I lose the fish while trying to land the steelhead or whatever the species it is. You appreciate just hooking into the species when knowing you are going to release the fish. There will be times in the future when the condition will surprise you hooking into fish left and right.
It's rare that we keep steelhead throughout the year, there are very few hatchery systems on the island. Doing a catch and cook with salmon though would be a possibility this fall.
Chinook 1.steelhead 2. tuna 3. halibut 4 but I like catching any fish 😁 numbers have been struggling on steelhead because of hatchery shut downs so 2 or 3 a year down about ten times!

HAY KITTY!!! YOUR VIDS ALWAYS COME ON WHEN I'M IN BED... NICE LITTLE MONTAGE OF SEANS... YA, I ALWAYS ASK ROD ABOUT YOU AND DOIN MORE VIDEOS... HE'S PUT OUT A COUPLE SINCE THIS ONE... SO SAD ABOUT THE CURRENT SITUATION, NOT BEIN ABLE TO HOOK UP WITH FRIENDS OR FAM. AND NOW REALIZING THAT YOU DON'T LIVE AS CLOSE TO EACHOTHER AS I THOUGHT... WISH THERE WAS A WAY I COULD COMMUNICATE OTHER THAN WAITEIN FOR THE NEXT INSTALMENT, JUST TO SAY HAY! WHAT'S UP... OH, REALLY NICE OPENIN SHOT... DEFINITELY WORTHY OF NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC... STAY COOL TEACH... AN KEEP PUSHIN ON... PEACE...
HEEEEYYYYYY PAULY! I know, pumping out videos as been a little slow on my end. It makes the whole thing even harder when travel restrictions tighten. I hope all is well on your end, hopefully with people getting vaccinated things will go back to some what normal, or at least I'm hopeful anyway. Cheers!
A family that fishes together stays together. Thanks for bringing us along on your Journey. It would be amazing if you and Rod could do a collab with #addictedfishing here in the PNW in the near future ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. They have really been reaching out to other fishing channels up here and it would be amazing if you all could connect.
It slows down the fish metabolism during the colder months.
She's cute. Here Kitty-kitty!
Do catch and cook episode
It's rare that we keep steelhead throughout the year, there are very few hatchery systems on the island. Doing a catch and cook with salmon though would be a possibility this fall.
What kind of spoons did you use ?
We use R&B Lures or First Strike Lures! Best metal out there, I swear.

@@alejandrorodriguez9238 You're welcome! Let me know if you need any help picking out spoon/spinner colours.
@@KittyKanhoffen thank you so much !
What net is the one in the thumb nail plz
Steelhead are almost 1 in my book 🐟👍
Oooohh almost? Watch captures your heart completely? This I must know...
Chinook 1.steelhead 2. tuna 3. halibut 4 but I like catching any fish 😁 numbers have been struggling on steelhead because of hatchery shut downs so 2 or 3 a year down about ten times!
It is easier when the reel is attached! 😱
Plot twist! It definitely made the fight more interesting! 😂
Happy to see you got a whopper Steelhead Kitty
You aren't the only one. :P
Literally, such a cool girl. This is the first video of yours I have ever watched and it started out awesome. Pretty girl, awesome fish... but then I find out that you're buddies with Rod?! Its an insta sub for me
Hahah. You are awesome .nice fish!!! 👍👍👍and you can fish my river. Its ok. Lol
