  • Hello and welcome to this unedited raw video of the Kalok Octagon KL-320 MFM hard disk drive with 20 MB storage capacity being formatted with the BIOS internal formatting tool. The sound is produced by beautiful, unique sounding stepper motor of the Kalok drive, which successors have been reported as unreliable.

    Nice one, never heard of that brand (Kalok Octagon), but it almost sounds like an old clock (must be the read/write head that's busy that makes that noise).

    :) I did't try to format MFM drives from 386 BIOS :) I usually do this from controller BIOS by debug :) on my 8088

    I have a 105MB IDE one with no bad sectors and Win 3.1 loaded on it sitting on the table in front of me. The noise that thing makes, exactly the same in the 105MB version.

    you could sell that drive from 100-200€ ish
