  • Michael Buerk with the Ten'o'clock News on Thursday 31 May 2001, one week before the general election. Reports:
    1) Andrew Marr on the day's campaigning: Tony Blair in Brighton and Hove, William Hague in Torbay, Charles Kennedy at a rally in Southport.
    2) Mike Baker on the issues in relation to schools.
    3) Peter Morgan on teacher recruitment.
    4) Andrew Marr two-way with Michael Buerk.
Sadly the report on the opening day of the Archer perjury trial is not recorded.
    5) The United Kingdom Independence Party's challenge in the Wells constituency, reported by Ben Brown.
    6) George Alagiah on disaffection and likely abstention among ethnic minority voters in North Southwark and Bermondsey.
    7) Andrew Cassell on the campaign in Scotland.
There's a brief glimpse of Mike Embley previewing the local news.

I have not yet traced an actual, but there are not many people with the surname and we're all from a fairly small area of West Yorkshire (Boothroyd itself is in Dewsbury).

Real classic that theme tune by David Lowe, the original National News titles from 1999, I enjoyed those opening titles and excellent studio set design, such a shame that it all changed.

Like Reagan in 84, Blair was unbeatable in 2001.

And thatcher in 83. The 2001 defeat for the conservatives was compared with labour’s defeat in 1983.
