I love these types of tests / presentations that can change my mind. Before a few days trip to Croatia, I was not a big fan of motorhomes and this way of spending free time. Today I envy the owners of such cars; freedom and the ability to choose almost any destination for your vacation, especially when the prices of accommodation are absurd this year. How did the Volkswagen Grand California perform during a short trip?
At the outset, I would like to point out that I am not an expert on such cars. Honestly, I have never had a long contact with a motorhome before, but in this case I take it as an advantage. I approached the presentation with a clear head and I can assess the car from the perspective of an ordinary user who is considering buying or renting their first motorhome. Will Grand California be a good choice? Anticipating the facts - too good. Why?
In this car, we have practically everything you may need during a few days or several days holiday. All you need is access to water and electricity, and basically nothing else is needed. Every now and then a new gas cylinder for cooking and heating, and that's basically it. There are two comfortable (relatively) beds, two tables, a cooker with two burners, a bathroom with a shower, air conditioning. Sure, it can all cost over PLN 400,000, but well, you pay for the luxury. How does it go?
The handling and efficiency of Grand California are surprising. There are no problems with overtaking or dynamically joining the traffic. Of course, we are talking about a huge motorhome, so there is no sporting emotions or the pleasure of driving mountain serpentine, but traveling is simply comfortable and efficient. Does combustion make you dizzy? I had such concerns, but was very pleasantly surprised. On a route of more than 200 kilometers, mainly on the highway with a limitation of 130 km / h (often up to 100-110 km / h), fuel consumption barely exceeded 10 l / 100 km. In my opinion, this is a fantastic result. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to cover longer distances with this car in the city and on suburban roads, but there should also be no problems there.
As for me - a revelation!
