The Iroc held its own better looks wise against the Trans AM then. Compared to the late 90s early 2000s. The original LS6 only lasted for about 7 months until I built a fully forged 427 on a RHS aluminum block. Heads cam a f.a.s.t intake. Long tube headers borla exhaust a Vortech Supercharger kit from A&A corvette. Water-methanol injection. A 200 shot of nitrous. The transmission was built to handle the power and a twin disc clutch. And a lot of little other things to help the car handle the power. It is such a fun car. It's probably the only car I will own for the rest of my life.

      The purpose of magnetic shocks was a comfy ride that could be adjusted for sport. The Z06 was purpose built to be a track car with license plates, the added weight and complexity didn't make sense on this car. Today, it's a major pain if you have magnetic suspension because replacements are virtually non-existent and some cars display error messages if you swap the shocks out, which is an ongoing annoyance.

    My dad still has his '01 to this day. Probably over 200 track days by now and no major engine or transmission problems. He did add a tranny cooler though early on.

      Yeah odd... doesn't take much for the trans to overheat. Just running Tail of the Dragon 2 times (45mins) and mine was overheated.

    What people don't realize is this was lighter than the infamous c4 ZR1 and this match to the early c4 ZR1's output and the next year you got the same 405 horsepower but again in a much lighter and more modern car
    This may not have been the technological tour de force of the ZR1 but the ZO6 was a much better overall and faster car.

    Top 10 greatest sports cars of all time, just behind the likes of the f40, f1, and easily underrated, and easily on par with the R34 gtr. If you can pick one of these up, do it. You’ll thank me in 10 years 💰

      For real bro, personally I think the c5s look better than the base or z51 c6 models(the c6 z06 and zr1 are an exception only rivaled by the c5 z06 in looks). But I can tell you in the corners the c5 z06 will feel and handle better while straight line the ls2 is slightly slower and ls3 is slightly quicker. Whatever you do I’m sure you will enjoy.

    Owned a 2003 till she was t-boned by a non-insured non-licensed driver. Man, what a car. Had it tuned with a cold air intake and Diablosport tuner. Never had any issues with her other than the driver side seat. It would twist under acceleration. The hinge on the door side of the seat would give out allowing torso section of the seat to "twist". It was alarming to say the least. The service department could never figure it out. Thought about replacing the seats with some Corbeaus but never had the chance. RIP 2016 with 35,000 miles.

    I love the headlights, taillights, rims and low weight of these beauties, modern Corvette lost all that in place of a more EU look.
    It's funny to see those 5.7l HEMIs nowadays boasting 385hp in various Dodge R/T trims when the LS6 made that 21 years ago😄
    In 2004 it was rated at 405hp, I always wanted that 5.7l motor in my SS if my LS1 ever dies.
    I'll see some wicked Corvettes of all gens when I pick up my Camaro from Vette Doctors Monday👍

  • @Modine.
    @Modine. 2 года назад +5

    WOW! 385hp 🤯
    A 2001 Dodge Viper only had 450hp 🤣

    • @nunyabusiness896
      @nunyabusiness896 2 года назад +4

      The Viper was $20k more, ~300 lbs heavier, and didn't handle as well. The Viper also had major pitfalls like a front hood assembly that was thousands of dollars to replace if you got in a minor collision and the fuel economy was like half of the Corvette's. The 90's Viper GTS is a great looking car no doubt, but the Corvette beat it in pretty much every metric except outright horsepower, but you could easily get that back with mild tuning and still save a ton of money.

      @@nunyabusiness896 not to mention putting a fat cam and new heads in a Z06 and making it sound better than a viper while also making more power for less money.
