When I am at a con or place with a library, I tend to play three types of games:
1: games my regular group won’t play
2: games I’ve heard about and put on my “try before buy” list (and of those, games with an easier rule set or that I can find a teacher for rise to the top.
3: games my con friends want to play.
So I rarely actually play “the best” or “my favorite” games, unless they happen to fall in group 1 or 3.
Is there any truth to the rumor that there had to be a copy of Foundations of Rome both port and starboard to keep the ship from capsizing?
Ok. That is funny😂
That explains the big velvet rope that ran the length of the ship with the sign "Foundations of Rome may not cross this line."
Was this was Mike meant when he was running around like an excited little kid screaming "It's a real life Viking See Saw!!" We all thought he was nuts.
As someone responsible for checking it out twice, it was a good way to help work off the never ending unlimited calories you're surrounded with.
I have to imagine being on a cruise was part of the appeal to playing Come Sail Away
That was my thoughts exactly also with Knarr. Could be great but also could be a nice light thing to do while getting some sun.
I'd assume it's because it's one of the best games from last year - not having much of the hype as many other European and US games makes people forget about it sometimes

Ra got checked out 26 times. Once for each year since it came out.
An interesting idea for a top 10 to me would be "Top 10 Games in the DT Library That More People Should Try"
I contributed to 4 of those games being checked out. I always enjoy the stat reviews.
AHH - I forgot about the cruise!! All week I was like "where are they...?" haha -- hope everyone had a great time!!!
So who's to blame for the number mismatches? Because of the ties, Tom numbered correctly, so it was the editor. I need to know for my log. (Shut up! It's my New Year's Resolution!)
Tom: I haven’t seen the end yet, but I’d be interested to see them ranked by TIME checked out, not just TIMES checked out. Some games are always out of the library, but maybe can only be played 3-4 times a day.
I think they mentioned once they don't do that because on a couple of instances, people have kept the game checked out almost the whole cruise. It would be hard to judge it that way imo.
For sure, but I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both methods, that’s why I think having both mentioned would be fine. I doubt it’s more work than a couple mouse clicks to get the info, and he makes a 12 minute video instead of a 9.
@bigd5773 I agree, both covered would be cool.
6/10 correct. How did I miss Forest shuffle, I saw that played everywhere.
Hello Tom! Just curious, what kind of lavalier mic do you use?
Not shocked about Knarr. Played it at PAX, and instantly wanted a copy of it.
Nice! 💖💛🧡💖❤💝
So Tom, what cruise line is best? Royal Caribbean, Norwegian or Carnival?
No Wild Tiled West? What a cool cruise to go on!
Wonder if We're Sinking will ever get played on the cruise ☠
I am definitely going on the next cruise, but is there a way to get a token to get early bird rooms before April 1st?
If Galactic Cruise were a part of the library, I believe it may have made the list. I got in on one game being taught by the designer, and he had two games going at once. It was a LOT to learn on a crowded setting, but I was very intrigued and feel the theme would definitely help with learning and with remembering how things work. I’m eager to play again.
😮
Yeah world wonders!!! 🎉
Tom seems surprised about several of these. Fox Experiment was on the BGG hot list until just recently. And it's a new game from the designer of Wingspan, one of the most popular modern games of all time. Seems reasonable to me?
Put me down for DT Retreat 2025 and DT Cruise 2026, yep back to back and believe me I’m going to do it.
Yeah!
I think I'd check out games i wouldn't buy but want to try.
You could have just put the stats on screen at the end :P its not like state secrets haha
Is there a vlog for the cruise?
Coming this Saturday. It'll be a little different style but it'll show you a lot what it's like!
Glad this time you guys got to not stress about video editing during your time there!@@thedicetower
How do I book for next year? It says I need a token or something, what is that?
Booking for the general public opens April 1st. Right now, previous cruisers get a shot first. Don't worry, there will be plenty of rooms!
Seems like the faster games would be favoured by this list.
Thunder road was almost never available
I would definitely prefer to be on a floating boat over the alternative.
Foundations of Rome make sense to me. It's an expensively gigantic game for being so simple. Plus it's not readily available. I prefer playing someone else copy and let them find storage for it. I'm awaiting foundations of metropolis though.
That was my first thought. Games I’d probably play if there would be expensive difficult to find games, rather than cheap games I could easily buy and own myself.
tom on cruise...did he do any death defying stunt?
There's gonna be a heat expansion????
Very light games
I haven't seen anything yet and, obviously, Tom survived since the last Q&A video but has there been an update as to why? People who are actually genuinely concerned would like to know all is well.
Chris here. I won't speak for Tom, but exhaustion after running the cruise is probably all. If I had tried to run a Q&A the day after, you'd probably have said the same about me.
@@thedicetower Ty Chris. Just concerned is all. I've seen symptoms like this before that were NOT exhaustion. I'm obviously a big fan so just want everyone healthy and happy there 😜
@@thedicetowerI saw you all talking the last night at the pizza place and tom looked wiped.
I really wanted to try The Fox Experiment on the cruise just didn't get time.
The Fox Experiment was definitely my surprise hit of the cruise. I immediately bought a copy of it after playing it.
looks like video could've been 20 most played games
Admittedly the idea of cruises never appealed to me... but a cruise where you just play board games the whole time?--I have to say my interest is piqued.
I'm not much for cruises either, but I do get happy when someone spells "piqued" correctly.
