I completely agree. Amanda is an incredible and talented performer. She does a brilliant job with this piece. I love that woman! She brightens my life :)
"Such Great Heights" is a single released on January 21, 2003 by The Postal Service, under the Sub Pop Records label. The single includes two cover tracks by The Shins and Iron & Wine of "We Will Become Silhouettes" and "Such Great Heights", respectively. The tracks were recorded in early 2002, and were written by Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello. It was the first CD released by The Postal Service, and a preview of Give Up, which was released a month later.
Hey lord, you won't be disappointed. She is wonderful live, and for me, this cover is wonderful too. Her songs aren't perfect, but I like it that way; she knows when to leave technical perfection to one side and let character and emotion shine through.
Disagreed, this is great and so are several other covers. Covers are a great way to show your influences and the artists you respect or your personal taste. Revising them to your accord makes them more personalized and thus more accessible to a people of a similair mindset to you - all this being said, though. I still think the best version of this song is done by... her friend and producer for WKAP - Ben Folds! His versions ridiculous and joyously infectious. Love it!
@Lordofthetomatos Oh man, I did see her live as the Dresden Dolls in Prov RI Lupos in 05. She's amazing I love her, her passion is lovely and so so moving.
@wigarmy Obviously it is her version of a cover as she is covering it, and it is different to the Iron and Wine version. Notice that A)She is a female singer as opposed to the male vocalist from Iron and Wine. B)She's playing piano, as opposed to iron and wine who cover this song on guitar... need I continue? As for her level of talent, she is an amazing live and recording artist who Is popular amongst her peers in the industry. Do you have any musical releases others can judge you on?
Everyone's perfectly entitled to their opinion but i would suggest that people don't try to judge this cover just from hearing it on youtube. Emotions don't really translate quite as well as they do live. Maybe if it you saw it live it would sound better? Just something to bear in my mind, i'm a big amanda palmer fan but would admit that this is not my favourite song of hers, might just be the fact that it's a compressed audio file, played through laptop speakers.
The song is about a girl he can't see because he/she is on the road. That's sad. Also, just because she dropped it an octave and slowed it down doesn't mean she's "singing it all emo".
Great cover, but I think she should have sticked closer to the chorus. I mean, it sounds good, but since I listened to the original like a zillion times it just comes out as weird.
Jesus Christ, relax. Iron and Wine and Amanda Palmer covered it Postal Service wrote it. Its a common misconception for obvious reasons, there's no need to act like a stuck up prick about it. All versions have there merits, it depends on your taste. And clarajane, I love both those bands too. =]
Does she know how to do anything besides slow the song down to 25% of the original speed? I know it's good to make covers your own but Jesus lady, don't put us to sleep. This and Hallelujah are ridiculously slow.
I don't like this version at all. I'm actually a huge Amanda fan ordinarily but this just doesn't work for me. neither does her cover of bright eyes' lua. oh well. she's still a goddess in my eyes.
Another pointless cover. Great songs don't make good covers. She needs to learn that, you'll only come off looking second (or third) best. This is, frankly, dung.
Been a while since this was commented on, so beautiful rendition. If it keeps TPS alive and does their music justice then I'm all aboard! :)

LOVE IT!!!! she has such an amazing voice!!! once again i love it!!!
This version is amazing. Amanda Palmer has awesome taste in music, she'd be so cool to hang out with.
this actually sent shivers down my spine.
incredible.
she holds serious hero status in my mind.
I wholeheartedly agree... Of course Amanda Palmer kills all the songs she sings!
Wow. She totally made it HER song. Sounds completely different.
She never ceases to amaze me.
She's amazing.

i wish i could have an mp3 of this so i could listen to it all the time.
Me being a fan of the Postal Service and Amanda Palmer I have to say this is an excellent cover.

Amanda Palmer and The Postal Service
brilliant.
amanda fucking palmer
Probably the most spine-tingling and sad thing I've ever heard...
It's by The Postal Service. Iron & Wine just covered it.
Really different of the real song.
But, oh , so beautifull.
I really love amanda.
me too

This does not compare to the original, but this cover is pretty well done.
This has already been asked here but I haven't seen any answer: does anyone have the music sheet? I would love to play it on the piano.. thanks!

everything looks perfect from far away.
(do sarcastic lounge singers have feelings? i dont know.)
This is so perfectly melancholy.
I love that she covered a song by "Iron & Wine"
Its Awesome.
Shes a real Artist.
She covered a song that Iron & Wine covered by The Postal Service
Johnson, VT
NO NO NO, the postal service made this song.
yeah when she sings the "persistent beat" part it makes it weird.
hahahahhaha oh my god genius comment!
she should have put it in a higher pitch
Brian was deathly sick with a bad fever
Great cover, but I think she should have sticked closer to the chorus. I mean, it sounds good, but since I listened to the original like a zillion times it just comes out as weird.
I love AP, but this is way too slow.
i have it, contact me privately, and we can work something out.
Jesus Christ, relax.
Iron and Wine and Amanda Palmer covered it

I hate this version, sorry :\
