Cardboard mulching -- layering sheets of cardboard all winter can help you maintain the growth come Spring.
Try using the right tools such as a mattock and loppers find it alot easier
When I had to clear my plot of brambles I used cordless hedge trimmer to cut them back, it was a lot quicker than using pruning shears. Great progress on your plot!
Oh yes, I just like to give myself even more of a challenge 😂 I mean, if people don't feel motivated by me putting in this hard graft with a small pair of shears, I don't know what will!
A good effort, it's hard work. I'd like to offer two tools to make it slightly easier and safer. A mattock for chopping into and pulling out the roots. Safety specs, those long strands have a habit of catching you unawares.
I am clearing brambles from Christmas trees I use shears and loppers , then rake them out twist the rake then tip straight into a large wheelbarrow a strimmer is no good because the brambles grow through the branches twisting this way and that so the brambles have to be cut carefully to avoid damage to the trees .
Ive got a large farmland full of brambles to clear out. So just getting some tips. Ive been cutting them all but didnt do the roots 😮
I set fire to mind but there was nothing but brambles. I am now busy digging out all the roots.
Once dug out cover the ground with weed barrier for at least the summer season, the pull up turn the ground over rake off any roots, plant spuds this clears and cleans the ground up, other wise another method, but more slowly, cut end of bramble about to take another root, put into container filled with creosote, cover from rain, this goes baback to the root and kills it, if growing veg on this ground do not for at least a year or so, I did say its a slower method,
Great job, I left a big job on my plot thinking it would take a couple of weeks. Yet after going hard at it for 2 days I had cleared it. Such a sense of achievement after, looks great now and you are so right, who needs a gym lol. Your plot is really coming together nicely.
Thank you! Good going for you too! Makes that cuppa all the more rewarding. Yes, it's all in the mind really. The colder weather doesn't help either! And I think you have to be prepared not only to clear once, but to maintain that space over a period of months. Something I need to get better at!
Thanks for this Bramble film. I'm going to be starting a huge bramble clearance in May, looking forward to it but I've got a feeling it's going to be tough and especially on my back!

New sub.. Have a new plot full of bramble and im doing it the old fashioned way getting stuck in, definitely is a workout but love every minute of it with lots of break in between mind.
Great stuff! Grab yourself a mattock if you don't have one already (or a pick axe 😂) you'll have a beautiful soil once they're up!

Mulching blabe on a strimmer...smash through all that...tiller the soil will rip the roots up..or a reciprocating saw round the root...will pop right out...save all the back breaking work 😊
Yes, I've been using a reciprocating saw with a 12 inch Diablo pruning blade which has made this job a lot easier. Been helping to remove huge overgrown bramble that's not been touched in 20+ yrs in new property. I've been starting by cutting at the base leaving about 6 inch of height. Which removes 95% of the risk of getting poked. The 12 inch blade easily plunges into soil angling it inward toward the plant. Work at it from 4 sides and many times you can pull the root ball right out. Any remaining stubborn roots just get after it again with the reciprocating saw. The real stubborn ones I learned after going around the perimeter I also go through the top of the plant right down through the root ball with the saw like a "tick" tack, toe" grid, which helps to section it's relenting grip in the ground. All of these little extra steps have been helping to ease the pain of this job as posed to digging it out from the beginning. It's all a lot of work that is gratifying once you clear your area and move on to the next:) This might help someone:) No matter what, you'll be working, tough on the lower back:)
