HOW to CROCHET SAVVY HANDBAG - DIY Tutorial for Easy Bag Purse Tote

You can learn how to Crochet the Savvy Handbag in this DIY tutorial video. Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. This is a great and simple crochet stitch pattern for making a purse, tote, handbag, bag, beach tote, summer tote, and more! This pattern was written for the final issue of the Crochet Savvy Magazine.
This is a simple pattern because it is just basic single crochet stitches, back loops only, back and forth - and you crochet the handles right into the purse at the same time! Two small seams at the end when you are finished and you are done! You don't need a lining either especially if you use the super bulky weight yarn as in the sample. You can, however, use any weight yarn, including worsted weight.

I love this pattern. Just finished my handbag, used Bernat Blanket yarn in Sonoma, a cream/tan/brown variegated yarn. Found some nice wooden handles on Amazon. It was hard for me to keep my initial chain straight, because the handles are rounded on one side and flat on the other, I kept getting them turned around. So I put stitch markers every 5 stitches, that helped me to keep things straight. Thanks so much for this pattern. Every single thing of yours I have made has been beautiful, and I am truly only an advanced beginner.

I made this purse using Red Heart Unforgettable self-striping yarn in Echo (muted shades of grey, purples and greens=my favorites) and used the inside loops of two 8" wooden embroidery hoops for the handles. SO MANY people - from cashiers to other women - compliment me on my purse, and no one knows I made it until I tell them! That's the best part, because a lot of people will compliment me on my homemade items knowing they are homemade, and that's nice; but it's super-nice when people say, "that's a gorgeous purse!" and when I tell them, "thank you, I made it myself," and they say, "you're kidding me?!," I thank you, Donna, inside my head every time! I'm working on a matching wallet, already used your lined clutch pattern to make a matching coin purse, but I want a large wallet to match. I wanted to line the purse as well, so I made one small change to the purse pattern, I gusseted it on the sides, so I'd have more room in the purse, too. Since I used a thinner yarn, I made more rows than yours, but you said that we could have as many as we wanted, so I just paid attention! For such a small purse, it expands to carry so much! Yet still looks so stylish and pretty. Thanks so much for getting my handiwork so much attention!

I love this bag! I made this bag using two strands of yellowish gold from Caron. (bought 2 skeins) For the handles, I used a bulky off white yarn and made an I-cord with double pointed needles. It was a Big hit at my local knit/crochet group! 💕
