@@socaljoe Hi Joe. We just did a one nighter on Catalina, camping at Shark Harbor. We rode the equivalent of your day 2 and day 3 plus a couple of small spurs, Catalina Harbor and Black Jack Mountain. We tried to get to Orizaba but the fencing was not passable. But we did get a clear view of the runway and watched a couple of planes take off. We passed on going to the airport because of the pot-holey road and lack of time. We didn't get to see a bison up close like you did but we did see two afar. And foxes. The ride back to Avalon was hectic; I had to walk the two steep sections. We managed to get back to Avalon with enough time for a nice dinner before getting on the 7:40 ferry. All and all, nice trip. Thank you for the route beta and the inspiration!

@@DeniseLookingOut I know there was water at Hermit Gulch (Avalon) and Two Harbors. I know Parsons was primitive and I think Little Harbor was too. One can preorder water and firewood for those sites. Our mileage per day was pretty short and we would pass water along the route. I wouldn't recommend doing it in the summer. I will say it's an expensive adventure. $85 RT ferry, approx $40 night camping, $35 permit plus everything costing more being on a island

I used to live next to the LA river in Long Beach…. As a kid I’d frequently jump on the river to ride my bike or skates down to Catalina landing. Shoreline and occasionally Seal and Huntington Beach. Use caution around the “city” areas - especially since there’s a heck of a lot more homeless people hanging about the underpasses. There’s a certain amount of danger you put yourself in making that bike ride.
