The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Patachou was known on both sides of the Atlantic as a humorous interpreter of French culture and playing off understandable and not-so-understandable American beliefs about various aspects of her country. Several more of her 1950s Sullivan Show performances are already here on RUclips to view, if you're interested.
The bit where she lampoons over the top French Male singers performing to American audiences is pretty funny.
It is understandable why she received the nickname of Sunshine Girl... her smile was contagious, and her humor was very remarkable... It is always important to know how to laugh at yourself or at your own myths...
Very entertaining she seemed like she was imitating Edith Pilaf in the 2nd half of her performance , either way it made me smile.. Have a nice Day....
I think she rather was imitated Maurice Chevalier
Delightful performance! 😊
Happy Wednesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Gorgeous 🥰🥰🥰
Bien le bonsoir de France, Thanks a lot for this archive of our beloved Patachou❤
Nicely done. 🙂 Entertaining.
WAS A GREAT GREAT SHOW, ED SULLIVAN! Lovely Voice.
Very, very entertaining.
The first time I heard this song was on Mad Men, performed by Christina Hendricks (Joan) while she was playing the accordion (S3E3). I never knew it was a Cole Porter song written for the Broadway musical "Can-Can".
Magnífica França com seus cantores e cantoras magníficos.
This song is so catchy I'll be humming it all day. 😊
Odd vibrato, but I'm happy you posted this video. I would never have seen it otherwise. DA
of course Sinatra sang this....if you are interested in good singing
